  1. Explain how. In seven years as defensive coordinator, what has he done to prove himself a worthy candidate for the head coaching position? Let's take a took at numbers. I know points per game aren't the only thing on defense, but when your defense can't stop people, that makes it tough on the offense.

    2001: 256 points allowed (23.3 per game)

    2002: 202 (20.2)

    2003: 226 (18.8)

2004: 259 (23.5) forfeit with Danville not included

    2005: 319 (29.0)

    2006: 420 (38.2)

    2007: 338 (28.2)

As you can tell, the defense has gotten steadily worse. It's probably no surprise that the wins have dried up from the earlier years as well. But in seven years Garrard is only under 20 per game once...and that's not exactly against a torrid schedule.

For what it's worth, in Garrard County High School history, 1964-2007, four of the worst ten defensive seasons have occured on the Stonebraker/Cooper watch: 2006 (worst), 2007 (second worst), 2005 (4th) and 2004 (10th).

I don't think that looks like someone who has earned a shot. Garrard County could do so much better.

It's all a moot point. Garrard AD, Jim Freeman, told Larry Vaught of the Danville A-M that the next coach must have head coaching experience. Coop does not have that.:argue:

  2. This poor kid is going through heck. He confused and probably a bit scared. Too many of our life decisions are forced on us at such an early age. Grown men and women with years of experience make the wrong decisions. What this young man needs is coaching, not punishment.

    Yep! You nailed it!

  3. Thanks for your opinion but every single person who saw the game knows that it was total domination by the Birds. In the heat of the game, the die hard LC fans who live and die with every play probably got caught up in the moment and got carried away by the three scores that came against Highlands' reserves.

I totally agree with your assessment of the LC fans reaction. And why not see it that way if you are a Pat fan? They had a terrific season led by some outstanding seniors. Congrats!

  4. I overheard some LC parents that actually believed LC was moving the ball and shutting down the Birds 1st team in the 2nd half. Could anyone that watched the 1st half, seriously believe that? Talk about your rose colored glasses.

I saw the game. IMO it was "no contest". Highlands was clearly a much superior team on that night. The Pats only successes came after the issue was decided and against the Birds' backups.

  5. I had heard after the first game between these two this year that one of the Garrard coaches said on the radio up there that he wasn't really impressed with Somerset this year and that they should have beaten us. Well looks like he will get another shot.

BTW after what happened in the last Wayne/Garrard game I was glad to see Garrard beat them this week.

I'm sure you are trying to motivate your kids on the Somerset team. However, I can assure you that no Garrard coach said anything like that. Somerset won the game in a blowout. Nice try on your part, but think of another more accurate way to inspire the Jumpers (as if they need it). Obviously, Somerset is much the better team. Who knows - any given Friday night?!?

  6. Now that we have six classes and nearly everyone gets in, AND the first round is within the district, was this year's first round of the playoffs the worst ever?

    I say yes.

The Garrard@Wayne game was a terrific HS football game - very entertaining and exciting for the fans of both teams. However, I agree. Bring back the "sister district" playoff brackets. Let's see some different teams and game sites from those of the reg season.:thumb:

  7. The "can't tell" ratings in the Herald give PC no respect at all. They are very underrated there. The C-J's Lit ratings seem to have a better understanding of the Maroon's strength. Muse and Hines can fly! Lincoln has played a better schedule, has more weapons (although not as good as Muse and Hines)

and more balance on offense, and LC's DEFENSE is awesome. Low scoring game with Lincoln winning 12-7.
