  1. Final. Congratulations to Highlands on their 20th win of the season. It has been a while since a Highlands team has won 20 games in a season. Congratulations to Ryan Shields for his first ever homerun. Thomas Towles and Denny Reller with 4 hits each, Zach Muench HR and 3RBI's, Zach Rawlings 4 RBI's. Everyone contributed tonight. Towles pitched 6 innings and Rawlings came in to close. Highlands will play Dayton Monday night in the first round of the districts at Highland Park.

  2. Another great game between Ryle and Highlands. Both teams held each other scoreless through 8 innings. Great pitching tonight from both pitchers. Allen for Highlands and Hatfield for Ryle. Allen went 8 1/3 giving up 6 hits and 1 run. Rawlings came in for the relief giving up 4 runs. Hatfield went the distance only giving up 2 singles, 1 to Allen and 1 to Muench. Sac fly by Campbell scored the winning run and Humphrey had a bases loaded 3B to score 3, 5th run scored on a stolen base (not sure of player's name). Not sure Ryle has been held scoreless in 8 innings this year. Great game, great players, great fans. Next up for Highlands is Cov Cath tomorrow at Highland Park.

bulldog77 - Thanks for the recognition of some of the other Highlands players

To be part of this all-star team and be nominated for a position, shouldn't you atleast be playing this position on your 9th region high school team. While Patrick Allen is a great player and deserves the recognition, he has never in his entire high school career played at first base for Highlands. Why not move him to DH since your all-star shortstop position, which is where Patirck plays, is already taken.

  5. Someone just faxed me a schedule of the JV tournament. It is questionable, at best. I had heard they just draw names out of a hat to set up the brackets. After seeing them myself, I'm sure that is true. I realize it would be tough to seed 20 teams from top to bottom, but it wouldn't be difficult to send them into tiers (#1-4; #5-8; #9-12; etc). That way you could avoid having two teams from the top tier meet right off the bat while allowing some weaker teams to walk into the quarterfinals. I know it's only JV ball - no need to get too serious here ;) - but at the same time these boys/teams have all worked hard this Spring and this is the big ending to their season. There has to be a better way than how they currently do it. And, yes, this is a little (?) bit of whining here, but Ryle is getting screwed. :irked:

Can you post 1st round games. Thanks.

  6. Great game by both teams tonight. While both teams had 12 hits each, Ryle's hits came when they counted. I'm sure Diamond Dandy will fill you in on Ryle's hits tonight, but for Highlands: Ader 2-4 (2)2B, Muench, 2-4 2B and 2 RBI's, Rawlings 3-4 2B and 3RBI's. Highlands has the next six days off due to having to cancel some games because we are only allowed to play 3 more. Next up for Highlands will be Ryle again next Tuesday at Highland Park and they finish up the regular season with Boone Co. and Cov Cath also next week. Next Tuesday night will be Highlands Senior Night. Please come out and congratulate the Seniors on a fine season.

  7. The Birds are now 19 - 10 for the season! Denny Reller and Zane Dziech combine for a 3 hitter against Pendelton County. Shields 2-3 with 4 RBI's and Muench 2-3. Congratulations Samir Patel on a getting a hit in his first Varsity at bat of the season. Highlands plays Ryle tomorrow at 5:00 at Ryle. Should be an exciting game for all.

  8. 40 hits is pretty impressive is this Allen kid getting any looks from colleges? Didnt he and Muench do a traveling Fall or Winter team? I am sure they got some looks there as well.

Patrick Allen will be signing with Thomas More next week. Congratulations Patrick!

  9. Glad to see that they have played 27 games to date. In the past, that would be the total played in 2 years. Does anyone know the maximum number of games that a team can play in a season?

30, but the 4 Doc Morris tournament games Highlands had only counts as 1 game, so therefore they are up to 24 games.

  10. Another win for the Birds. Towles pitched for the Birds with Allen coming in for relief. Dickman and Nichols pitched for Dixie. While Dixie out hit the Birds 9 hits to 4 hits, the Birds 4 hits were key, with Allen going 2 for 3 with 2B, HR and 4 RBI's and Rawlings was 2 for 3. Next up for the Birds is Milford on Friday.

  11. Highlands beat Lloyd for the 3rd time this season. Great outing by Greg Popvich on the mound for the Birds. He went 5 1/3 innings with Shields and Rawlings coming in for relief. Offensively the Birds were led by Rawlings HR and 3 RBI's, and Muench was 3-4 with HR and 2 RBI's. Caleb Downey of Lloyd had a 2B and HR. The Birds face Campbell County tomorrow at 5:00PM at Highland Park.

  12. Great game for the Eagles tonight. Adkins pitched a great game only giving up 4 hits. Nothing working for the Birds tonight except for a 2B by Allen and a HR by Muench. Birds are physically and mentally tired right now. 10 games since last Monday. Scott was the much better team tonight. Pitching not working and too many errors by Highlands tonight. Game seem to take forever. The game didn't start till 8:15,then delayed 20 minutes for lightning, and didn't end till 10:35. Birds off the next 2 days. They take on Holy Cross Friday and St. X Saturday.

  13. Everyone knows this is the time of year for upsets, teams playing a lot of games and using a lot of pitching. Cov Cath is upset by Campbell and they claim it's because they are tired and used a pitcher that hasn't pitched much this year, Boone is upset by Dixie with their # 2 pitcher but he was tired too and yes, Highlands upset Ryle because we CHOSE to start a guy who has never had a varsity start and follow him up with two more juniors. It eventually gets back to normal, always has, always will. Ryle, Cov Cath and Boone will get back on the winning track and Highlands will win some games as well when they pitch Allen.

Yes, Allen is our #1 pitcher, but Highlands hasn't won all 13 games with just him on the mound.

  14. From what I understand, that wasn't a choice, it's all they have.

Couldn't we just give credit to where credit is due and say congratulations to the Birds for a great game, they obviously came out ready to win and they did.As we all know, it's possible that anyone can beat anyone else on any given day in the 9th Region.
