  1. The KHSAA will continue to offer a slow-pitch softball state tournament for the next two seasons, but the only schools eligible to participate will be the ones that also field fast-pitch teams playing a minimum of 10 games.

NKY, by the way, is the only area in the entire Commonwealth that still offers slow-pitch softball.

Only six of the 20 local schools that had slow-pitch teams also staffed fast-pitch squads.

It sounds like it's not a state tournament, but a Northern Kentucky regional tournament.

  2. I don't think he can play with the guys on that list IMHO.

I'm not an expert on baseball by no means, but Jason Bowling is a very good baseball player. Last year he had to play so many different positions for Owsley County that it took a lot out of him. He was the starting catcher, but he also pitched. Well, to pitch one day and then catch the next is not easy. Making throws to 2nd base is hard on one's arm, not to mention squatting behind the plate and what it does to the knees and legs.

Jason will have more help next year with the return Robert Smith and every starter from last year, of which several were 8th graders and freshmen.

I think Jason is one of the top players in the region, but I'm a little biased. As far as that goes, I think Robert Smith is up there too...if he can control his emotions when things aren't going right. He was a good pitcher as a sophomore, but didn't get to play last year. I think he'll have a solid senior season.

  3. Jason Bowling played on the Junior AllStars this year. He was Owsleys Catcher and really what you would say their only Varsity pitcher. He hit 5 home runs and batted near 400 i really don't have his stats ( a good solid player on a team that was made up of mostly 8th, 9th, and 10th graders). Thomas McIntosh would have made the Junior Allstars had he played for another team than Owsely ( where he would have been noticed ) A very solid defensive player that can play most any position, and he had to last year, his best position is 2nd base, he batted in the 300's, and again I am not sure of his stats. Robert Smith's return will mean a lot to Owsley he had to set out last season. He will be another solid pitcher to go along with Jason Bowling and is an excellent short stop along with being a good hitter. Things look much better for Owsley this coming season with all the younger players being a year older and the return of Robert Smith.

Owsley County returns all their players from last season, and with the addition of Robert Smith, who had to sit out last season, they should be one of the better and more improved teams in the region. The only problem is that they play in the best district in the region, and it's tough to even make it to the regional tournament. But next year I think they will.

BTW, Lee County returns all their team next year as well. They'll probably be pre-season # 1 next year.

And I noticed BillBud didn't have any Estill County players on his list of top players in the region, but you'd have to think that with a coach like Danny Wood's deveopmental baseball skills that Estill has someone that should be on the list.

Cheer, I thought your twin was an identical sister. So, you are a faternal twin too. I don't mean to sound like we're not close, but we are in our 40s and have different careers and different hobbies. We live about 5 miles from each other ( in different counties ) and probably see one another only about once every 5 or 6 weeks. What I was trying to say is that I also have 2 other sisters and 2 brothers, and I'm just as close to them as I am my twin sister.

There must be a few twins on BGP. I have a twin sister. We were pretty close until the age of 9 or 10 and we then started running with our own buddies. I guess boy/girl twins are not nearly as close as identical twins. We still discuss things and confide in one another, but no more than with other brothers and sisters in the family.
