  1. Preseason 7th in the region. I think they may have been overlooked. Being a sleeper is not a bad thing.

I knew Lee County was underrated when I saw the various preseason ratings that had them around 6th or 7th. It's my understanding they had a great summer camp record against good competition, and they have most of their key players returning, plus a good 9th/10th grade squad to give them depth.

Right now I would have to put them as the favorite to win the 14th region All "A" Classic this year, and be in the thick of things to win the regular 14th region title.

  2. What was the box scores of the game? I heard Tillman had 10 points in the first quarter... and sat out the half the first quarter and the whole 2nd quarter due to chest pains??[/quote

    Frankfort 69 Owsley Co. 64

    Frankfort (1-6) Anderson 29, Z.Smith 2, Tillman 16, Jouett 2, J. Smith 16, Fields 2, Lawson 2

    Owsley County (1-6) Neeley 12, Reed 13, Wilson 15, T. Congleton 20, Wright 2, Mainous 2

  3. Congrats to the Bobcats!! Lee County is a very competitive team that plays hard.

But as for the JC game tomorrow, I don't think they have the talent level that JC has this year so don't be surprised to see a loss!

I wouldn't necessarily agree with that. Didn't Johnson Central just beat Estill County by 2 points? The only disadvantage that the Bobcats might have is that they're playing the host school, who will be playing in familiar surroundings.

  4. Owsley County couldn't match the shooting that they did the night before against Wolfe County. The only player who had a feel for the basket for them was Trey Congleton, who had a team high 17 points. Daniel Neeley had an off-night for him, as he scored 15 points.....half his average. Many of his shots were off the mark, but everyone has those type games occasionally. The game was tied in the 4th quarter, but too many Owsley turnovers that Frankfort turned into easy buckets, was the difference.

I was wrong on the scoring for Trey Congleton. He had 20 points instead of 17, according to the Lex. H.L., and Neeley had 12. Dustin Wilson had 15 for the Owls, and and Josh Reed scored 13.

Even though the Owls lost it was still nice to see them get 4 players in double figures. That means some of the younger players are gaining experience and confidence as the season continues.

  5. I was disappointed in LCC tonight, I thought they'd put up a better fight than this. They never did get in any kind of momentum. Bourbon shot the ball well, and had good quickness.

If LCC is one of our top teams in the 14th, then this game is not a good statement on the region. I mean, to lose by 21 in a game played in a 14th building.

I just hope whoever wins the region this year doesn't draw a region like the 6th, 7th, or 11th, not to mention South Laurel. Any of those matchups would not be pretty.

  6. Ok, thanks prof. Did Neeley force the shots after he stopped hitting?

He forced several, but when he gets in a groove he may hit 4 or 5 shots in a row. I think he just sometimes tries too hard to make something happen. When Smith gets back and gives him another option, I think you'll see less of that, and more of him getting the other team members involved. He will have Congleton as a good option as well. Trey really shot the ball well tonight.

  7. 8. Someone was giving updates of this game on another thread, and it sounded like Hazard had about 6 or 7 charging calls against them. The Bulldogs need to play under a little more control than that. I know penetrating and slashing to the basket is their game, along with the 3-pointer, but a well coached team like Russell is not going to permit the opponent a clear lane to the basket. Sometimes you have to back it out.and re-set.

  9. Jackson played pretty decent in this one. Jumped out to I believe it was a 14-0 lead. Fugate and Howard probably had 20+ points each. I know 2 other starters scored in double figures and the other (Thompson) was pretty close if not. Overall defense was pretty good. JV played several minutes throughout the whole game. Good win for the Tigers in their home opener. By the way, the gym was packed. Looks like the Tigers will get a lot of support from the community this year.

It's nice to see the fans coming out to support the Tigers, the players deserve it. This is one of their best teams in years.

BTW, how many will Jackson's new gwn seat?

  10. Owsley County finally got a game where three players scored in double figures: Daniel Neeley 34, Matt Wright 16, and Trey Congleton 11. That's what they need. Neeley's going to get his points (he's averaging 30.2), but he needs help from others. Last night he was able to find Wright several times for easy baskets. Wright didn't have a good game against Lee County, probably where it was his first game this season, but he did well last night. And Trey Congleton hit the boards hard and had several putbacks. He's been pretty consistent all year. That's what the Owls need....a little more balance.

  12. One of the anaylst for this week's PGA telecast said that Holmes was the one new player on next year's tour that could make an immediate impact. He said he saw him play a 600+ yard par 5 that the pros had a lot of trouble reaching in two with woods, and John did it with a driver and a 6 iron. Two of the local guys from my county who have played some on the Hooter's Tour, and can both drive the ball consistently over 300 yards, said they had played in events with John, and he could easily outdrive them 20 to 30 yards with a three wood. They told me that Tiger would have trouble driving up with him. That's scary :scared: .
