  1. Keep those great, in-state, high school players coming!
  2. Assuming the same governing body is the Archdiocese of Louisville, does this mean that an 8th grader attending St. James in E'town could not play basketball at E'town High School (a few blocks away) until two years later, but could drive 50 miles to Louisville's ST. X or Trinity every day and be eligible to play immediately? Or, what about an 8th grader in a parish school in Glasgow? As a freshman, he or she would not play at Glasgow or Barren County for the same two-year period, but could travel daily to St. X or Trinity in Louisville and start immediately on a team?
  3. I'm not comparing KOB to the State Tournament. But playing your local foe five miles down the road who happens to be rated #1 in the state five times in one season...and one of those times happens to be for the KOB title...shows that JH has the fortitude to play in stressful situations. Plus, being ranked #6 yourself in the state, or at least in the top ten all season, speaks for itself.
  4. Not at all. Some previous posters were insinuating that John Hardin didn't have the experience of playing before large crowds and South Laurel did because they had played in the state tournament before. I just don't think that Rupp Arena will intimidate them.
  5. Don't overlook John Hardin. St. X did in the football playoffs and it almost cost X a state championship. And don't forget it was John Hardin versus E'town for King of the Bluegrass Title. JH's Brandon Bland is red hot now - scoring 31 points against E'town in the 5th Region Championship overtime game. I wouldn't call this an inexperienced team who can't take the pressure. Go Dogs!
  6. I have only been to the regular camp and it was outstanding. Well-run, competent instructors, disciplined - everything started and ended on time! Pitino and the UL b-ball players were actively involved in the entire day. Kids at all skill levels attended from all over the country, Alaska and Canada. Plus, the food was good!
  7. One of the most exciting places to watch KY high school basketball has to be the Reed Conder Gym at Marshall County - home of the famous HoopFest. It seats 6000; has a waiting list for the 964 chair seats which have been sold out since the gym opened in 1980 (one of my family members owns one). Their clock-score keeper hasn't missed a Marshall County home game since 1975. That's loyalty!
  8. I'd have to say the '81 North Hardin team. Three of its starters went Division I: James Jeter (UL); Robbie Valentine (UL); Brett Burrow, 6'11 center (Vanderbilt); they were No. 1 in the state and jockeyed with Bryan Station the next year for the #1 spot; they went 37-3 and only lost the state championship title in '82 by a freak, Hail Mary shot by Laurel County with no time on the clock.
  9. Thread #70 had Ring Road confused with Joe Prather (Hwy 313), I believe. The easiest way to get to John Hardin High School is to go south on I-65; take Hwy 313 exit (about a mile past Lebanon Junction exit) toward Radcliff; make a left at the intersection of 31-W and 313 and travel about 3 miles south toward E-town. Turn right onto Jenkins Rd. at the traffic light and the high school will be on your right just past New Highland Elementary and Bluegrass Middle School. As far as eateries, continue south on 31-W toward E-town about 1-2 miles. You'll find Rafferty's, O'Charley's, Red Lobster, Tumbleweed, Bob Evans, Fergie's, etc., plus many fast food restaurants. Hope this helps.
