Here is a link that explains how exactly the OHSAA calculates the Harbin Points System:
-
Wasn't there an OH team that went 12-0 this season and did not make the playoffs? Seems inherently wrong.
Can't be possible. Only 10 games played in Regular Season.
-
Not true RFC. In fact, I think a #4 has even won a state title. There are #4 seeds winning playoff games every year.
Voice of Reason has a good point. KY should go to back to 4 classes or with all of the consolidation that has happened in KY over the last 25 years maybe they should be only 3 classes in KY.
-
I would take KY over OH the way it is right now. I don't like that a 10-0 or 9-1 team can miss the playoffs.
I haven't heard of a team in OH miss the playoffs with a 10-0 or 9-1 record in recent years. I know of a couple of teams that went 5-5 in OH and made playoffs.

As I said last week, Colerain has more talent, X has one of the best coaches in the state.
Colerain is undercoached to say the least. I sent up a red flag when Coombs left and this was the Cards choice. Most ignored my thoughts, but now the lack of playoff success while having better and higher ranked teams regularly is making it hard to ignore.
St. Ed's is the best team in Ohio. But, Colerain was going to have a physical edge over every team they'd have played prior to that game.
St. Ed's is probably the best team in Ohio. I have said that after they destroyed a good but down Columbus DeSales team 62-0.
-
Colerain goes down yet again. They were the #1 team in the nation in some polls. Congrats to the Bombers.
They are not ranked #1 in Ohio. AP Poll had them #2 behind Cleveland Glenville in the Final AP Regular Season Poll.
-
Part of that problem is then you have another partner MSU that you have to dance around. What if the Eagles have a home game that weekend? This is partly the reason the finals are now at WKU instead of U of L.
These sites that I mentioned would be in charge of making sure no other events would be taking place. It would not be the responsibility of the High Schools or the KHSAA. Each site that would like to host a playoff game would have to apply to the KHSAA each year to host a game.
-
I'm sick to death of hearing "Ohio does it this way... Ohio does it that way..." It's OHIO, NOT KENTUCKY!!!!!!!!!!! Who cares what they do in Ohio!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I also believe that West Virginia and Tennessee use neutral sites. Tennessee if the higher seeded school meets the criteria to host will do so. Indiana higher seeded team host the first round then in second round the higher seeded team or a team that didnt have a first round home game will host the game.
My purpose for the thread is that, I think it is time for a change in the current playoff format.
-
So none of you have a problem with the highest seeded team in the District and Region in Basketball/Baseball hosting the District and Regional Tourneys in Basketball each year, correct?
Good point, BUT, Basketball/Baseball only has one class and the teams are already close to each other when the tournaments start. Football is different, case in point would be Highlands traveling to Paintsville to play Johnson Central. A very long drive for the Bluebirds, they could play at a neutral site say as a example Morehead State (if MSU so desires to host a event).
-
Seriously, if I am a member school I say no way. You get to split the gate with the opponent. If the KHSAA is going to run and oversee this event, they will take the proceeds.
The KHSAA already oversees the playoffs or is it ran by the higher seeded school?
-
I wouldn't be against playing state semifinals at neutral sites, maybe combining two or three games in one day at places like WKU or EKU, or maybe a larger high school stadium that has field turf. But I wouldn't be in favor of neutral site games any earlier than that.
I believe also that Morehead St. , Pikeville College, Georgetown College to name a few that could host a site also. Yes there is a number of High School sites that could host games too, Belfry comes to mind for one.
-
Officials for most, if not all, playoff games are from other athletic conferences and other parts of the state. Nothing but sour grapes on this point.
Who is going to pay for the rental of the neutral site? Which team is responsible for manning, supplying, and running the concession stands? Who gets the money?
Who pays for the clean-up?
Will there be any money left for teams to split after the game is played?
Rental cost should be paid for by the KHSAA. Each site would have to meet a certain criteria to host a game, set by the KHSAA and awarded to host a game only by the KHSAA. Each of sites would have a Site Manager in charge of the event. Various duties would be as followed:
Provide participating schools with any necessary information not included in these regulations.
Appoint a media coordinator who will make necessary arrangements for the news media.
Provide visitors with similar press box accommodations and field phone equipment as available for
use by the home team. The manager shall notify the competing teams if field phones are not available so that each school may make arrangements for their own communication equipment.
Arrange for a competent timer, scoreboard operator, public address announcer and line-to-gain crew. The timer is required to meet with the officials no later than 30 minutes prior to game time.
Make arrangements for concessions.
Arrange to have a doctor and/or trainer present. Arrange to have an ambulance available or on call for emergencies.
Arrange for an adequate number of law enforcement officers and/or private security.
Provide uniformed police or security to escort officials to and from their dressing quarters and to their cars after the game.
Secure ticket sellers and ticket takers.
Assign dressing rooms to teams and game officials.
Designate seating sections for each school
Make arrangements for halftime activities by school bands.
Assist teams in making housing arrangements, even though each school will be responsible for its housing.
Employ ball boys or girls – high school age or older.
Advertise parking arrangements.
Employ program sellers.
Employ a statistician.
Mark fields in accordance with the National Federation Field Diagram including team areas and the 4-inch wide broken line around the entire field a minimum of six feet from the boundaries.
File financial reports with the KHSAA as soon as possible following the game.
All of the ticket sales would go to the KHSAA and then distributed to each school for their expense.

I am wondering if Playoff games should be at neutral sites from the Second round to the Semi-Finals.
I read on here about how far teams have to travel and how the officials didnt call the game their way. I believe there is plenty of nice field turf high schools that can host playoff games. One thing for sure, there will be no complaining of how far one team has to go to play or how the officials must be from the home teams town.
What does everyone think?
-
I remember Lawrence County in 1990 had to travel to Mayfield for a semi-final game. They left the day before the game I believe and stayed in E-town before heading out on west. I remember that was the longest bus ride I have ever been on and not leave the state of KY.
-
I know this win for Dayton Dunbar will get them close to the top 8 in their Region 12 D-III which is what they need to qualify for the playoffs. I know NCF mentioned the wins against weak teams, but their two losses were to, Germantown Valley View and Trotwood-Madison.
So to answer your question is Male another Harbin Cow? YES especially if they win their final 3 regular season games.
-
I am anxious to see how good Ironton is this year. I know they play Jonathan Alder (Plain City,OH) on Oct. 1st. Alder has been an dominant contender in D-IV for several years. I think anytime Ironton dominates a KY school they seem to be really good.

So LC wins by 62 after an int for a td and a fullback right up the middle 26yds after a fumble. Subs started going in at the start of the 2nd quarter. Shelby Valley wins 66-0 a couple of weeks ago fake punting and going for 2 in the 4th quarter. Yet those of you running your mouth in this thread never said anything about that.
Schedule wise people need to realize that LC averaged about 2 wins a season 4 of the last 5 years. The schedule was beyond brutel and the program was a mess. The Super was sueing the school. The state department breathing down teachers neck etc. It's a commuitty that has 1 thing and that's football.
One part of a really big master plan was to lighten tge schedule. Winning is a cure all. LC has road the winning momentum and not only gotten tons of kids out of the hallways but also won the town back.
Zero doubt the lighter schedule helped build that momentum. The curse is it was 2 year deals and LC isn't the 0-11 program it was when the contracts were signed. Sheldon Clark is 2 weeks away and last years LC/SC was down to the wire one of the most physical high school games I've ever been around. So 3 weeks of starters playing only 1/2 is setting up for failure plus lc only has 2 kids playing both ways. All 58 kids dressed played in last weeks game and tge majority in this one. Off only scored once (on turnover + fullback up the middle 26yds in 1 play).
I understand both sides in this one and have mixed emotions. The good news is contracts are up and I'm about positive LC already has Prestonsburg, Russell, Sheldon Clark and Raceland lined up out of confrence next year.

Well I am not sure if LC ran the score up with their starters or not, cause I have not heard yet. As for the "soft schedule", LC cannot help these games were scheduled over 2 years ago with an home and home agreement. I still give credit for Coach Sammons and his staff for turning the program around back to its 90's form. I am sure next year the schedule will have a much different look.

Yes it is Greenup's First loss.
Sam Burton pitched a heck of a game. Even without Chandler Shepard , Bulldogs still have plenty of pitching.

A track star who is used less often than he should who *did not play high school football* leaving early for the NFL. I've heard it all. Come back to UK where you belong and then worry about a career that may span 4-5 seasons in the pros as a NFL RB.
*I believe that is true, I may be wrong.*
Here is a bit about what Locke did in High School:
In football, was Most Valuable Player of Oklahoma Class AAA as a senior ... Rushed for approximately 3,250 yards and scored 51 touchdowns during his senior season ... Returned punts and kickoffs, with one punt return touchdown and two kickoff return TDs during his final year ... Also named all-state, all-district, and the Red River Valley Player of the Year ... Four-year starter ... Team's best season came during his senior year, notching a 10-3 record and advancing to the state playoffs ... Started at running back as a freshman, moved to quarterback his sophomore and junior seasons, then returned to running back as a senior.

I agree, Brandon Knight may not be as quick as Wall, but his ability to hit 20-25 foot jump shots makes him more of a threat than Wall was. IMO
