I also think Jesus said - Suffer the little Children to come to me. Did he add - but only if their parents are not living a sinful lifestyle? If he did, my translation has missed that.
Just to be clear though - it is NOT my belief that homosexuality is a sinful lifestyle, I was just using that as an example of other people's thinking.
Would you care to explain your reasoning behind this statement?

I don't know how to take Paul's remarks yet. I sure wish he would defend them though. I deplore racism and would frown on anyone that refused a service to someone based on their skin color. I don't think Mr. Paul thinks one should either.
A few questions that I do not have an answer for:
1. Is it against the law for a private citizen to be racist?
2. Is it against the law for a private citizen to discriminate?
3. Does the Constitution allow the Federal Government to determine whether or not a private business can "discriminate" or choose who they do, or do not serve?
4. Does the KKK, NAACP, or any other group that is of one color or race discriminate? Is it legal?
5. Is it legal for some to discriminate and illegal for others?
A classic Chapelle Show comes to mind here....

You don't think he is far right?
I don't know enough about him personally but would like to find out more. That is why I asked you what aspects about him make you put him in the far right column?
-
I agree with both of you. And federal election results in KY for many years have shown that the registered Democrats will vote Republican - witness both US Senators and nearly all Congress men have been Republicans for quite a while. But can Rand Paul run from the far right and win those Democrat votes he must have to win in November?
What exactly makes you put Paul in the "far right" column?

They should call it "Ridiculous", because that is what it is. Hardest workouts I have ever done.

There are a few Lincoln and Washington fans that might disagree.
Heck I know several Obama fans who would disagree as well. The would easily put Obama in front of Reagan on a list of best Presidents.

I had no idea the percentage was this high in regard to those who pay no federal income tax.
Thoughts?

Any thoughts on what could be the last push for healthcare reform this year? Will it pass?

I admire standing in principle.
I'd admire Bunning if he did this knowing he had to run for re-election. No ramifications get no praise from me.
Makes a great case for term limits doesn't it?

That would be correct. Within an hour of each other I believe.
I think it was closer to 5 hours apart. I believe Jefferson mentioned Adams on his death bed, not knowing that he had passed away earlier that same day. Not 100% certain of this though...

I still don't see how paying taxes is a punishment . You kive in the Us you should be happy to pay your fair share and I stress fair .:walk:
Would you care to elaborate on your definition of "fair"?

What middle class.
How do you define middle class?

I didn't notice anyone looking hostile. Frankly, I expect a room full of cadets to be pretty intimidating. They don't typically act like a room full of other college kids. Plus, the topic had to be especially sobering to them. They're the ones who are going to be going to Afghanistan. I didn't see them so much hostile, as intent. I did notice a few who seemed to wear skeptical expressions, but didn't feel that was typical of the whole audience. I did notice they kept panning in on one Asian-American girl. I wasn't sure why, though.
I agree. What were your thoughts on Matthews' comment?

Typical liberal agenda, I guess.
From day one (even before), I've wanted out of the war. Both of them.
I think it's unconscionable that there are 40-some million uninsured in this country.
Significant emission reductions, treaty or no.
NCLB reforms. Increased emphasis on and funding for early childhood education.
I agree with the note re. inexperience. I'm still happier, however, to have his inexperience over 4 more years of what we got from 2000 to 2008.
If this is unconscionable to you, I would recommend checking out this site:

I am sure there are others like it, this just appears to be one focused on Kentucky.

http://www.huppi.com/kangaroo/L-runawaywelfare.htm this one says 1%
http://wiki.answers.com/Q/How_much_money_has_been_spent_on_welfare_since_inception This one says 6%
This one is just for fun: http://violettespage.com/welfare.shtml
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Government_spending how about 3.2%
Whatever the number you find, it is very low.
Thanks for taking time to post these. Are you saying that these links state that the percentage is of government spending on welfare is around 2%? They seemed to say to me, that the percentage assigned was a percentage of GDP, not of government spending. But I could be wrong. I was never very good with charts and graphs.
Thanks again for posting the links.

I have asked numerous times on here for someone to give me some valid numbers on those people scamming our welfare system, or even the number of people who are on it, not scamming, but shouldn't be on it. I NEVER GET AN ANSWER.
I have friends that work in SSI disability determination here in Frankfort, and b/c of my job I also get to be a 'reference' on some of those applications. My friends do not just hand out money, and I never complete a form saying someone needs it if they don't. So I would say the abusers are few and far between.
I also have pointed out time and time again that we rail against welfare abuses and welfare makes up about 2% of our federal budget. Cutting out welfare fraud and abuse will have NO impact on our economy at all, will not change the budget deficit and essentially does nothing, but sometimes gets a politician elected. That is about it.
Do you happen to have a link to your 2% statement?
Thanks

That is diappointing to hear. After attending several of the Atlanta events in 96, I was looking forward to the possibility of the games being in relatively close proximity to KY.

He's been on Leno, Letterman, Face the Nation, Meet the Press, Al Punto Con Jorge Ramos, CNN's State of the Union, ABC's This Week. He's been on prime time television several times already, on the radio numerous times. Is anyone else getting "Obama overload" besides me. :ohbrother:
No overload here. I just don't watch it.

From the top of my head Germany, Switzerland, and France all have both public and private options that are required to have minimum standards of coverage (allow pre-existing conditions, no dropping coverage, etc.).
Thanks. :thumb: I will do some digging/reading on these tonight.

Other countries have similar regulation of insurance companies and still have insurance companies.
That is interesting. Do you happen to have a link to this, or a good place for me to look for this information?
Thanks,

I don't think that there should be a coverage limit for life threatening illnesses.
How will an insurance company survive without some form of coverage limit?

I agree there are two camps. However, I do find it ironic that many "bet on the come" with tax cuts in 01,03,and 05 that we're still not sure ever paid for themselves yet they insist that this particular policy prove that it pays for itself.
Tonight was the first time I heard him say that if his projections are wrong that spending will be cut to make sure its not costing the taxpayers. Interesting. I would assume that we can all agree because we've all yelled about the billions of dollars of waste in pork or overall govt spending. So if the projections are indeed incorrect can't we agree that there are plenty of areas we are wasting money today that can be cut?
Why not make the cuts first and see how that works?

Did that today, sold all at .66 right after I posted on here. Nice little chunk of change from the Siri stock. :ylsuper:
A nice return indeed. Congrats. Have you thought about at what price you would get back in to SIRI?

This is a fairly well know, but controversial theory proposed in a book I'm currently reading. Basically what the author says is that the children who would not be aborted when abortions were illegal are now being aborted. And since "unwanted children" are more likely to commit crimes, that a relationship develops, where more readily accessible abortions lower the crime rate.
I want to also point out that I'm not looking for religious reasons why abortion is wrong or any bible verses whatsoever...just a look at the topic proposed.
Are you reading Freakenomics?
Any changes in opinion?
in Kentucky / National Politics

Most who post on here are pretty involved in the political process and are fairly engrained in there political beliefs imo. I just wondered if there were any posters who have changed their opinion on President Obama since he has taken office? For example, are there any posters who voted for President Obama, but would not do so now, or vice versa?
