He was a great QB, that's for sure. The thing that stuck out to me regarding HHS this year is that they had an explosive offense headed up by Houliston and Harris, but that their defense struggled at times. If you go back to even early in the season, HHS gave up something like 44 points to Bryan Station while scoring in the 60s, and of course we saw what had happened in the WC and LC games late in the year.

My final answer to the question posed in this thread is that Collins was able to come up big on a 4th down play with just 13 seconds left and with their back-up QB in the game while trailing HHS by 4. Winning big games like state title games often requires teams to make big plays at crucial times, and that is exactly what Collins did. They deserve all the credit.

 

As a HHS fan, I hope HHS deals with this loss the way they dealt with their loss to Boyle County in the 2003 title game. It was at that time when Coach Mueller made some changes that paved the way for the kind of dominance HHS has had in its class these past several years.

Perhaps Collins won the game, not because they have black kids, but because they had a very good team that executed a good game plan against Highlands? Highlands has beaten Holmes, Cincy Withrow and Cincy St. X in the recent past, and they have a lot of black kids on their rosters. Conversely, Ryle and Elder have been the only teams to beat HHS recently up until Saturday and they are mainly white kids.

I just looked up the definition of racism, and yes, what you mentioned would 100% fit the definition of racism.

As a white guy, there is nothing racist about that...just a very honest opinion. As one who is a fan of everything Highlands, it has some strong merit.

Now that 4A has wrapped up for 2013, how are things looking for 4A next year? Can Collins repeat? Will Highlands get back to being on top? Will CCH continue to improve and make the move to number 1, or JC? Let's hear some very early predictions.

Congrats to Highlands, and especially the Highlands seniors, for an exciting season. It didn't end the way the Highlands players, coaches and fans wanted, but there is a lot to be proud of now that it's all said and done. The highlight of the football season for me was getting to watch Highlands play live on national TV here in Raleigh!

 

Win or lose, Highlands fans love their players and the great coaches who lead them.
