  1. OK, I'm willing to listen and consider your position. If it had NOT been a rivalry, how much better would NCC have been than Beechwood in terms of ability? 1 TD? 2 TDs? More?

LCA's varsity was 30 points better than Beechwood. Is NCC better even than that? I'd like to hear why you think so.

Chances are that Diehl will not throw four INT's one of which went to the house. I also believe that NewCath will turn the ball over 5 times total. That's five possessions in what appears would have been a shootout. Not making excuses. NewCath lost to Beechwood in what I consider to be a fluke. I do not feel that any team would beat Beechwood two times by 31 pts, which means that that game was an aberration. NewCath has more speed than Beechwood. They spread the ball better than Beechwood, and they have a better QB. I don't know much about LCA. They may beat Beechwood 5 out of 5, I don't know. But they wouldn't win by 31 more than once. I think that's why people believe that it's going to be a closer game. Also, NewCath beat a team by 38 that Beechwood lost to earlier in the year. Let's compare that score.

  2. Let's be fair. A will always have less talent than AAA. That is why they have different divisions. Dale Mueller will have accomplished more than Yeagle at a higher level of competition when he has completed his coaching career!

The competition is relative. And many of those teams that Yeagle coached would have beaten Highlands and Mueller.

  3. Sounds like a great game....however, I have a very hard time believing two things: a)That St. X. is the best team in D1 Ohio and b) They are a nationally ranked team. From what I saw of them and the points that they put up, they have a very average offense.

Let's be realistic here. This team played Colerain, St. Ignatius, the GCL south and some school from PA and still have only given up 64 pts. in 12 games. That's maybe the best schedule in the country. They are legit and deserve to be ranked high as they are. I think that the reason their offense looked so average was that Colerain has one LB going to OSU and another going to Michigan. On top of that they are super fast everywhere. On a side note, I think that Combs was way too conservative in this game and coached not to lose.

  4. Dale Mueller has a very different style, but is just as good.

Dale and his staff are second to none in game planning. They come out with a great idea of what they want to do. What they lack that Yeagle and his staff had, was the knack to make crucial half-time adjustments. And let's be fair, Yeagle has done his work with less talent than Highlands.

  5. It might be awesome to you but not Beechwood fans. If all the rumors are true Nky lost the best coach they have ever had. I know people like Owen Hauck but come on now Yeagle is the best in Nky.

Yeagle is heads and shoulders above everyone in NKY except for Homer Rice.

  6. Hey thanks for reminding me that NCC is a catholic school

"EDUCATION!!" thats weak you can get that at any school if you apply yourself and if the building was that important you would have a/c at least in the gym to keep the kids from slipping and sliding ;) and as far as an all urban school...call it an all county school :p But by the way great traditon and how many state titles.....Even little ole Bellevue has a few more. :p

They won't be adding to the hardware this season, will they?

  7. Nope just stating facts............. :D:D

What facts??? I, like other NewCath fans, would love to play Highlands for the simple arrogance that you show. This isn't '97 or '98. I would love to see it, no excuses, no rumors. On the field. If Highlands wins, so be it. They are the better team then. I just would love to see NewCath have that shot.

  8. Yeah and the Houston Texans won the other week. LCA got a nice win. Remember Beechwood lost to Bellevue who got DRILLED by NCC tonight. This is not last years Beechwood team. But still a good team.

NewCath has never beaten Beechwood by this margin. This is truly impressive. Going to be interesting next Friday...or Saturday whenever we're able to find a field (which is good for NKY and Newport that they are winning as well. Congrats 'Cats)

  9. A regional final without Beechwood -vs- NewCath. All NewCath fans would have loved to play the the Tigers again. Aien't happening. A new voice is being heard. Beechwood fans have had a front row view on both teams, and I have not. In your opinion, who wins? What happened? Where is the game being played? I'd love some match-up info. Seeing a different match-up in the regional finals had it been Beechwood-Bellevue or LCA-Bellevue, it makes things much more interesting. Congrats to both teams.

  10. I don't know I would have to say both. New Cath was the top team up here that year after they beat us in the regular season. We won 15-6 in the playoffs. Actually I think that was the game that Beechwood started their dominateion or however you spell it over New Cath until the 2000's.

Nope, they started their domination of NewCath in the '91 playoffs when Berger and Co. smoked us 41-0.

  11. Actually NCC has not had the most talented team in Class A for the past decade. I don't think you'd find even the most fanactical fan claim that the NCC teams from 1995-1999 were even legit contenders. In fact the only two losing seasons since the 1970s were in that span.

And I believe that while NCC has been competitive with Beechwood in the years 2000-2005, just about every footbal fan including those of NCC acknowledge that Beechwood is the premier Class A program.

    '95 was a legit contender.

  12. It also calls into the light the reality of the arrogance of the private schools. A warning shot was given 2 years ago when a proposal was presented to eliminate any student that received financial aid from varsity action. It failed because it eliminated kids from playing. This one passed, and I am still surprised it did, because it does not eliminate any kids from playing.

The privates ignored the warning shot and took the position that they cannot do anything to us because we are the KHSAA and anything less is just a poor league. The 48 schools are EVERYTHING to the KHSAA. Their arrogance has cost them. Now that they have received a slap across the face, HOPEFULLY, all sides can sit down and work something out to prevent the separation but solve the issues that 198 public schools feels exist. The privates can choose to take the role of the Democrats and whine like the D's did after they lost Florida (and the BGP private school posters are doing) or take a role of being visionaries and presenting a workable solution to this issue.

The private school posters have taken numerous shots at the public schools as whiners. Now it is the same group's turn to see how the other shoe is going to fit them. Do they whine like they have been attacking the public schools for or be visionaries?

Would this vote have even come up if the Private schools stunk at sports? What about the kids that go to these schools for academics? It does still happen. What if Erlanger LLyod's enrollment had dropped by 50% the last 10-20 years, and on;y 1% of that 50% played sports at their new school? What if those teams were defeated routinely by Llyod?

  13. The NKY Post in an article yesterday stated that Private Schools won a whopping 17 out of 30 State Championships last year. Wow that's almost 60%. If people would look at the big picture they would realize it's a pretty even playing field. Besides X and T how many Private schools have won a Football Championship? How many Private schools have won a Basketball Championship? What I am gathering is more people are afraid they MIGHT lose to a private school just because they are private not because they may be good.

  14. This one should be a barnburner with both teams equally tallented and semi-deep at skill positions....could come down to special teams..I will have to say:

    Newport Central Catholic-21

    Beechwood-20

If it comes down to special teams I'd have to lean towards Beechwood. Every year they seem to be very solid at Special teams. Not to mention does anyone remember the roughing the kicker on NewCath last year? I do. For some reason Beechwood Doesn't make those dumb mistakes that turn the game around.

  15. I believe that some of the great athletic talent across the state should be afforded an opportunity of winning a state championship ring. I know of one young man (a fine young man w/ little or no athletic ability) that has 3 state championship rings - 2 in football and 1 in wrestling - and he didn't see one second of varsity play in football and spent very little time on the mat at meets. I think that all young men and women from Kentucky deserve an equal chance of winning a championship. Why should an individual get the prize when in reality they did not fully participate? Look at all of the public school athletes statewide that are multi-talented in more that one sport and give their all only to realize come the end of the season that they are out-numbered by the team roster and finances of a private school that has the capability of recruiting by offering "academic?" scholarships or assistance. I applaud the public school officials that are making a priority of bringing this sticky situation to the attention of the KHSAA and the general public.

Didn't a public school take 3 out 4 state football titles as well as the basketball title. Beechwood was in our district when they were in their golden age. Opportunities for a state championship were limited. I got over it, so should everyone else. The advantage, if at all, of private schools is not as pronounced in KY as it was in TN.

  16. When picking All-State you have to think how the writers think. Now I'm only going to choose a player from my team, because I haven't seen enough of other players. All-State voters, or AP, or whatever, are going to look at players from good teams, unfairly maybe, but obviously. Secondly, they are going to look at players that had big games against big teams. Since NewCath has only played one huge game, and he had 300 yards (which is impressive, no matter who is on the field and we're not opening this discussion here) with 12 tackles against Beechwood and 170 yards against Holy Cross, I have to go with Kevin Smith from NewCath. I don't know where he'll be, but he has to be at least an All-State nominee. Not bad ratio, two Smith brothers, two All-Staters, and two more coming through the ranks. The old man may not be the best softball pitcher in the world:D, just kiddin bud, but the kids have talent.
