  1. Won handily? Never really threatened? Is that better than "cruised". The lead was cut to 10 points for a possession or two. Other than that, the lead hovered around 13-16 most of the game. So, there was not a running clock, and the game was not a complete blowout. But, the game was not close either, and never in doubt.

Down 9, Brossart got a nice looking three up from there best shooter. It went in and out. This was with 12 minutes left in the game. One shot from a good shooter makes it six with 12 to play. Is that never threatened? Won handily?

  2. The report that was given is done by one person (voluntarily) for the region coaches association and sent out weekly to college coaches and media members (a total of almost 300 people). Coaches are asked to submit their stats weekly to that person to be compiled. If the coach does not submit the stats, their kids don't get included because it's really not feasible to go to KHSAA site and get the reported stats (which aren't always complete) for all 17 teams in the region. Additionally, this report contains stats that aren't submitted to KHSAA.

So just to play Devil's advocate, what's the difference between looking the stats up on the KHSAA site and sifting through 17 emails for the volunteer doing this? Seems to me one is as quick as the other.

  3. Here's the thing.

Baseball's all-time hit leader is eligible, but not in the Hall of Fame.

Baseball's all-time home run leader is eligible, but not in the Hall of Fame.

The pitcher with the most Cy Young award's in history is eligible, but not in the Hall of Fame.

Bad look for baseball. Take a stance and decide. Either wipe out their records and move on, or let them in on the numbers they produced while being allowed to play.

  4. There are some programs that are all about winning, no matter at what cost.

A former coworker told me that the particular team I'm talking about, her sons played for them. When her 7th grade son was injured during a game, a coach asked his high school aged brother if he wanted to take his place in the 2nd half of a game. She said her boys though 4 years different in age were of similar size and an out of town team would have never known the difference.

She also said coaches told them that all other teams did this, so they were just leveling the playing field.

It is a shame what people will do.

Agreed, that it is a shame what people will do to win, and then proclaim they are in it for "the kids," or for the, "the right reasons."

The program's I've known however, would never get close to allowing this to happen. It's blatant cheating, and at the end of the day, who cares who wins a 7th grade game? Any program boasting or cheating for that is never going to get it anyway.

I hope your former coworker didn't resort to this level for the sake of a 7th grade win. The win means nothing past the moment, and taints all involved.

I can say for certainty that while Beechwood, CovCath, Highlands, and NewCath have many state championships each, none would ever even get close to resorting to these acts.

  5. I know of at least one middle school that has used Soph's on 7th grade team in the past. These things happen probably a lot more than most of us realize.

Why would a middle school team use kids that even in the middle school any longer? What possible purpose would it serve? I see no logic at all behind such a thing.

Agree it may happen more than I realize. Silly me thinking everyone plays by the rules, and teaching kids that cheating is okay is a bad thing.

  6. The internet telecast said over 100 yards in penalties and 5 of those were personal fouls, can't win many like that. Being there, what was your assesment of both teams? Thought BC would smell blood after Keller went out, but don't think they scored after the first quarter against a soph QB.

What does one have to do with the other?

  7. The internet telecast said over 100 yards in penalties and 5 of those were personal fouls, can't win many like that. Being there, what was your assesment of both teams? Thought BC would smell blood after Keller went out, but don't think they scored after the first quarter against a soph QB.

They didn't score after the first quarter, but I'm not sure a Brossart having a sophomore quarterback had anything to do with that. He is a quarterback, not a cornerback.

  8. So I'm getting my half decaf half regular coffee at DQ the other morning, and the lady at the drive thru asks if I need cream/sugar. I say yes, a couple of cream please. She asks..."how many"? I say again, "a couple". She then asks..."well how many is that...4, 5"? I said "no, 2". She then proceeds to tell me that when she asks for a couple of something, she wants 4 or 5 of those things and always has to ask for more when she is handed 2, so when someone asks for "a couple" she always ask how many that is. I just kind of shrugged and smiled, but I WANTED to say...well, maybe when asked you shouldn't say a couple, you should say 4 or 5. Because a couple is 2.

I have also noticed more women than men seem to ask for clarification when asking for "a couple", so maybe it's a gender thing?

a couple is two, literally. But, in this instance why not just play along with the DQ chairperson you are now dealing with, and help her help you? Give her a number, she will give them to you and that's that.

I've seen guys go into a bakery and say, they just want a couple of donuts. Then proceed to order six.

I've heard people say on a cell phone as they order their 88th beer, they were just having a couple beers with friends.

I've heard people say when it comes time to pay/tip, just leave a couple dollars, for your share, when the bill is actually $100.

I've heard people say they were only going a couple miles over speed limit, when given a ticket. Citation stated 15 plus.

  9. The question back then was "how was she playing" in the summer. In fact, in that thread we all agreed that it still had to be official to compete in khssa events. The entire conversation was about how in the world could she be practicing and playing in the summer. Never insinuated she was cleared to play for HHS. It was discussed in that conversation. So maybe you assumed I meant cleared to play, but if you read the entire thing it would tell you that we were clearly talking about "for the summer"

As for the paperwork, the departing school has to initiate it. You can't move forward without it. They to determine whether they are going to contest it or not. Now HHS might have to physically mail it, but they can't until they receive the paperwork from the other school. So we're talking semantics. Regardless, it was submitted a long time ago. So no, HHS didn't "hold" the paperwork. And it's been pending for a long time.

Again, I'm not really looking to go anywhere in particular with this thread. And, I've read many of your posts, so I certainly don't want you to think this is personal. And here come's the big, but....

First bolded, "cleared to play," kinda insinuates cleared to play for her new school, per KHSAA rules, no matter how you slice it. Cleared to play, to me, reads as we are all good here moving forward. Everyone is cleared to play in the summer, so what else could your "cleared to play," be referencing? Hence, the confusion.

On the second bolded, or your second graph. You are wrong on many counts.

  10. I'm sure that person was me. And cleared only means "given the okay to participate because she was enrolled. In the summer, there is nothing to be cleared for officially. There are no official competitions. If you are enrolled, you are clear to participate in non-mandatory workouts or games. By being enrolled, she was cleared to do that. And I said HHS would have not allowed it if she wasn't.

Now to the present. Once school starts, all that changes. Now to participate, the transfer must be approved. She has not participated in any of the activities since school has started. She is awaiting the decision.

And it's not HHS responsibility to file the papers. That comes from the departing school. And they filed them.

"Cleared" has many different meanings depending on what you're talking about. Cleared to participate in the summer is different than participating in competitive khssa events.

Not sure where you're trying to go with this, but I can assure you this has been done 100% by the books. Everyone watches HHS and everyone there knows it. I am very close to it as I am the softball coach and if she's eligible, you'll see her on the field for me as well. And I know exactly what has been approved and not approved. And I know exactly where it stands in the process. And I know exactly how it got to the point it is now.

I'm really not trying to go anywhere with it, other than someone, perhaps you, said she had been "cleared," or she wouldn't be playing. That where the use of the word, "cleared" started.

However you want to slice it, the word cleared used in the context it was metnioned, clearly implied that she had been ruled to be eligible by the KHSAA. Otherwise, why not just say she's allowed to play this summer and leave it at that?

Again, I'm trying to go nowhere with this. But, I can tell you some of what you are saying is wrong. Notably the bolded for starters. It's absolutely the responsibility of the receiving school to send the transfer papers.
