  1. Please keep the discussion in this thread on the open basketball coaching job at NDA.

There's a separate thread in the volleyball forum for the volleyball coaching job at NDA.

There is now. Nice job. Prior to today, no word on the NDA volleyball position since Feb. 11.

My point was simple. All are discussing a timeline for a new basketball coach, and the volleyball position took quite a bit of time to fill. Seemed appropriate to point out.

  2. Can not believe that no one has pointed out that PC had two fouls to give after taking the 50-49 lead. Who knows what the outcome may have been had we been able to use those appropriately. Not throwing anyone under the bus but still this morning i can not get that out of my mind. Great effort by both teams. Congrats to Paris and good luck Monday. Thanks PC for such an enjoyable season. I'll be over the agony of this defeat and be ready to view two great games on Monday.

This was huge. Big mistake on the Wildcats part not to foul and prevent a fast break layup.

  3. IMO, James Brooks was the best the Bengals ever had. So dynamic, and a game changer. May have been one of the best in the NFL for a three or four year period.

Pete Johnson was a fullback that could catch a pass, he did so many things for the Bengals. I loved watching him play as a kid. Funny thing is I think the Bengals traded Pete to get James.

  4. Erlanger exits are closed during the project to help with the flow of traffic. Due to the crappy design around those exits, there are daily backups during the afternoon rush hour.

Just for kicks, what I'd really like is to see an actual press release from the KTD, or an actual news story that explains why the Erlanger exits are closed as part of the project. These exits are only 10 miles and five exits/interchanges away, after all.

That would be some good summer reading material right there. Zero chance we see a good answer.

  5. Would have preferred the tournament going back to WKU....but they did not ask for my opinion on it. But I will give Lexington a chance to be better than my experience at NKU. Maybe it will, maybe it won't?

I know they didn't ask for your opinion on the matter.

I'm asking you for an opinion. If you want history, and tradition brought back to the tournament, how do you think that's going to be accomplished at Rupp Arena, in Lexington in March???

How can you see that playing out well?

  6. It is what it is, but IMO the move to Lexington isn't a good idea. If I'm looking at venues for my event, I'm not sure the first thing I want to say is, "we'll need to drop curtains around half the arena." That might tell me the venue may be too large???

Drop the curtains, and building size remains the same. 4,000 people in a building as big as Rupp, with ceilings as high as Rupp, is still going to sound like 4,000 people in a building built to house 23,000. You can't get around it.

My guess is the only thing Northern Ky., couldn't fix to keep the tournament past 2018, is geography. That's a shame.

  7. Put a little more of the history and tradition back into it.....I know this will start a "discussion" and I won't take part in it. WKU was the perfect place for it and when it left, it almost seemed like it turned into just another tournament. I am from Louisville , so save the homer thoughts and responses. Stated my feeling on it and will read anyone else's that cares to chime in.

Only to the bolded. So you want more history and tradition (i.e. caring about the event maybe?) brought back to the tournament? Correct?

Yet you are good moving it to Lexington in a 23,000 seat arena in March? Yeah, that's a nice little chance to find a niche for this tournament. Nothing else going on basketball wise in this area that time of year.

  8. No question Frankfort is outdated on the whole (or maybe it is a hole). The area around the convention center has been virtually unchanged forever. They've had AAU state tournaments in the civic center, the Ky.-Indiana series used it for awhile, and now the A. In all that time, I don't remember ever seeing a new thing pop up in the area.

That said, the timing seems to stink for the All A folks. Not sure where they turn for this year. Eight months out and no home for a tournament that has to house 32 teams and use a building for five straight days. Few options. Maybe EKU can adjust their conference schedule to be on the road during this span.

  9. Hats worn indoors was once a no-no from an etiquette standpoint. That rule has since gone the way of the carburetor. Still see no need for anyone coaching in a gym to have a hat on during a "game", but okay.

Hate the jeans look. My man, Jim Leon, rocked them for years, but it's a bad look when coaching anything other than bowling.

In actual AAU sanctioned events, they have a dress code, and they enforce it.

  10. 1. You funded to other publicly funded stadiums, its only in fairness that you would fund a public arena that can be used 365 (potentially)

    2. You funded millions into a street car that leads right to your entertainment district, do you not want to have a the best entertainment district possible, so people ride your street car.

    For starters.

Is the bolded where you plan to start your argument? Because nothing prior to that is an argument at all.

  11. I was at the Garden on January 2, 1990 when Jamal Walker's jumper as time expired lifted Xavier to a 115-113 victory over Loyola Marymount.

I attended this game as well. For this one game at least, it was a great atmosphere and two very, very good teams. This is the year Loyola went to the final 8 in the NCAA tourny only to lose to UNLV, like everyone else.

At the time I was either playing with or against some of the Wolfe (sp) brother's in various CRC and other leagues around the city. Great times.

  12. Brent Bach was 1/3 in 7 minutes. Ben Weyer was 1/4 in 12 minutes.

Nick Ruthsatz is now just Joe Student at Findlay. No longer playing.

Thanks for the always good info. IMO just shows how deep the talent pool is, even at the D-II and D-III levels. Especially in a sport like basketball, where only five players can be on the floor.

Bach was a very high quantity scorer in HS.

Weyer is still young, but was one of the better players in the state as a HS senior IMO.

Nick was a really hard nosed kid, with a great handle, and was for a time CCH's all-time leading scorer.

  13. Here's the scoop guys. First of all, i find it hilarious how worked up UK fans get over Indiana, still.

Ultimately, you have to look at it like this. Who is the best coach that Indiana can possibly have right now? That's the question we need to answer.

    - Gregg Marshall - Is he really an upgrade? Really? I'm not buying it. And it doesn't move the meter for me either. Would I support the move, maybe. I wouldn't be dead against, but no chance any of you sitting out there really know if he's an upgrade. PLUS, I am leery of any dude who spells Greg with two g's. Just weird.

    - Brad Stevens - Absolutely hysterical to me that any person thinks he has some mythical connection to IU simply b/c he coached at Butler. Not happening.

    - Tom Crean - Has had a really decent run. Decent is the word I would apply to it. Up and down, take out the first 5 years, he couldn't recruit off campus for 4. And he has a pretty good record. Including a couple wins over the almighty Kentucky Wildcats. He had a young team. 1 Senior. Lost two of his 5 starters to injury. Had a really solid freshman class who were forced in to action before they were ready. They're good players, just weren't immediate impact guys.

The answer to the initial question is: Tom Crean. There's no real reason to get rid of him right now. They had a down year. Ok, it happens. I don't expect him to go anywhere, I can't possibly imagine him leaving on his own.

I guess we'll all just have to wait and see but it is funny how much time and energy some of you have put in to this.

Little energy and hardly any work put into this, but a few thoughts:

If you don't think Gregg Marshall is an upgrade, then look more deeply. Check out the work Wichita has done over the years in the NCAA. Major upgrade.

I agree Brad Stevens is not an achievable hire for IU. Zero way he would take that job. He is coaching the Boston Celtics in the NBA, enough said.

IU went 18-16 this year without the loss UK would have added to that mark, and the Big 10 was down. Not bad, but down.
