I guess we will find out early if Highlands is for real this year.  They get to play #11 in week 1, #29 in week 4, and #22 in week 5.
They also play a much improved and dangerous (especially offensively) 6A Simon Kenton team in week 2.

Yes if Highlands has a good start to the season they will move into the rankings easily.  Teams that just missed the top 30 included Highlands, Cov Cath, Owensboro Cath, Bullitt East and a few others.  None of those 4 finished in top 25 last year.  Had Highlands got Robinson they would have been preseason top 30 but my sources were telling me Beechwood was the likely spot at the time.  Cov Cath lost so much including I believe Mason to transfer, had he stayed they would have been in to 30.

And I think that's a completely fair and valid assessment/statement.  You do have to prove it on the field not on the message boards.  Based on the 1st 2 scrimmages, I like where Bullitt East is, starting the year off.  Does that mean that the other 2 programs aren't as strong as they typically are or does that mean that Bullitt East is looking at that type of year.  Only time will tell.  The most important thing is how the year ends.

    Agree.

Here’s what I’ll say about Bullitt East with 100% confidence, if South Warren is top 11, so to is Bullitt East.  Take that for what you want.  A lot of work to still be done, but the team has talent in bunches.

Maybe so but last year BE lost twice to unranked teams and only played 2 games against ranked teams, both blowout losses to nationally ranked Male.  This year they only play one preseason ranked team again and that's Male late in the season so will kind of hard to know until they play a really good team.  I do expect them to improve from last yar and could easily make their way up the rankings but will need to beat some good competition to do so, or beat mediocre competition handily.

It has typically been the same sister districts each year. What changes the teams within the district is the redistricting process that happens when the KHSAA reclassifies schools. So you will see a difference within the districts next season since the KHSAA is set to reclassify this upcoming offseason.

Is Douglass finally moving up to 6A?  I'm wondering what happens with Great Crossing, FD, and Scott County.

I just throw this out on this discussion of different classes. In 2019 Frederick Douglass finished 14-1 and lost by only 1 score 14-7 to a very, very good Cov. Cath. team that year they scrimmaged 6A Trinity at home and lost by a score of either 41 or 42 to 7 and it was not even close. That Trinity team did win the 6A title but did lose a regular season game to Male.

One other example in 2020 Douglass played LCA and running clocked them with LCA scoring on the final seconds of the game to make the final 40-6 Douglass. LCA went on and lost in the 2A State title game to Beechwood 24-23 in OT.

LCA Douglass would have been much closer last year, probably a coin flip. LCA beat Boyle on the road without their QB, and did you see what Boyle did to Douglass?

2020 was a blowout though, LCA had Burton, Crowdus etc. LCA 21 was better than 20.

But that same Trinity team did turn around 5 weeks later and beat that same Ballard team 40-0 so there's that.  Does that mean that Trinity would have beaten Beechwood by 3-4 touchdowns 5 weeks later?  In most years, Beechwood wouldn't have a shot to beat Trinity, but last year in a 1 off game, it's possible, but wouldn't happen consistently.

Depends on which Trinity team showed up, they were inconsistent last year. High highs and low lows (by their standards.)

Absolutely no shot it’s that close. Interesting to discuss, though.

If Beechwood/LCA were in 6A last year they would have finished top 4-5 in 6A, ahead of Madison Central, who finished 4th in 6A rankings.  Trinity would have finished no higher than 3rd.  So if Trinity is 3 and Beechwood LCA would have been 4/5 in 6A how would it not be a close game?

LCA beat Madison Central who finished 4th in 6A.  LCA beath Boyle without their QB on the road.

Beechwood went undefeated and beat LCA.

With all due respect it’s really tough for me to believe Beechwood would beat Trinity.

I wish they would play each other. Last year we got2A Beechwood vs 5A Cov Cath and 2A LCA vs Boyle, and LCA vs 6A semifinalist Madison Central. This year we get LCA vs Madison Central to start the year.
