I think that Cov Cath will have a pretty good team with a skill position group that would not look out of place in the GCL South. Having said that, I would be stunned if we’re better than Trinity.

I'd say Trinity and Cov Cath would be a pretty even matchup.  Both teams having good years.  Trinity has really played well down the stretch after a somewhat slow start.

  2. No countdown this year, but the preseason top 25 was released yesterday on KSR. Plus the top 5 per class.  This is my fourth year doing them. I appreciate the coaches that gave me feedback on who they think would be the top teams in their class. So I used that feedback along with weighing in how well teams did last year and who they have returning, transferring in, along with players they lost due to graduation or transfer.

I hear you, FD struggles to win the big ones in my opinion.

Douglass has finished outside the top 5 (8-10 range) in my final 2020 and 2021 polls, so I agree they were not top 5 in the past few years.  However I think this Douglass team is different and I think they will finish at the top 5 and have their best chance ever to win 5A.  We will see.

I don't want to pick on any one school but if Highlands, CovCath or Beechwood doesn't make your Top 30 then I want to see them play Raceland.  Fortunately Highlands plays Raceland. 🙂

You still sticking with Highlands over Raceland?  I think Raceland can/should go in to Ft. Thomas and beat them.

This is a "participation trophy" poll always - giving away freebie undeserved rankings.  Last week these guys had Owensboro #1 and now #3 after beating Apollo 62-18.  According to this poll, Henderson would be above Trinity, Male, South Warren.  I say the playoffs should be seeded by this poll!

I think Owensboro will easily beat Daviess Friday.

Fredrick Douglass and Beechwood are my two biggest issues. No shot FD is #2 in the entire state. Beechwood MAY be Top 10 (that's a long shot, IMO), but they certainly haven't proven it at this point.

According to the recruiting rankings FD has the most talent in the state and Beechwood has the highest ranked player in the state, but of course none of those highly rated players play QB.

I'd say it looks pretty fair at this point.  As for Manual, they get to play #1, #8, #9 and a pretty good LaSalle team so they'll have their chance to crack the top 10.  I personally like their chances against both Ballard and Male, but we will see.

Oh yeah Manual might be moving up fast.  Also if Dunbar beats Woodford that is a good sign for Madison Central, who barely beat Dunbar at home (Central did have some injuries).  If Woodford beats Dunbar by a lot they will likely jump Madison Central.  Hard to tell about how good Beechwood is until they have the prove it game vs Cov Cath, assuming Cov Cath keeps winning.
