  1. If parents were given $5,000 vouchers, with the remaining funding left for the public schools in their districts, then the loss of students to private schools would be more than offset. Public schools and the NEA fear competition and do not want to lose their political influence on young minds. As long as the NEA is opposed to vouchers, most politicians will also be opposed to them.

Thanks for the clarification. I think that better answers my question.:thumb:

  2. I belive the term Arab/Muslim State has little or no meaning. The Middle East has more of a tribal mentality than a nation state mentality.

Of course. Those Middle Eastern "nations" are simply areas of land that Britain, the U.S., etc. drews lines around after the First World War. Those people are "Iraqis" or "Jordanians" or what have you in name only.

  3. I completley understand what you're saying, but say there is an attack, God forbid, on America by a terrorist group. If the US is unable to be 100% certain what country was responsible for the attack, how long would you be willing to wait before we responded? Would a month be suffice? Or two? Or a year? At some point we would have to respond, or it opens the door to even more, possibly more severe attacks, wouldn't you agree?

The U.S. waited two years after 9/11 and apparently still got it wrong. Was it worth it? Are things better?

  4. What if parents were given a $9,138 tuition grant? They could pick which school for their child to attend. Schools would be put in competition with each other to see who could attract the most students. Bad teachers would be fired, and bad schools would fail. But our education system would improve.

In theory vouchers are a good thing, but I do have a couple questions. What about schools in areas that aren't attractive to quality teachers? Would anyone want to send their children there?

  5. "...almost every Arab country"

Iran must not be allowed to go nuclear.

For what it's worth, Iran actually isn't an Arab country. It's Persian. And the people of Iran aren't really fond of being called Arab.

Who are the Arabs, and is Iran an Arab country?

The answer to the second question is easy: No. But explaining why Iran isn't an Arab country requires the answer to the first.

  6. I would not be counting this game as a easy win. WV has some very good players and will surprise some people this year.:flame:

That wasn't my implication at all. I was simply saying if Powell County doesn't think it's fair for 5A to play 3A, then why should they be okay with 3A playing 1A?

  7. Bracken County needs to be put into District 1-3,if for no other reason than travel. Every one of those teams in District 1-4 is close to 3 and a half to 4 hour round trip, while the Northern Kentucky District 1-3 would cut the round trip travel in half, surprised the AD's of all of those schools aren't complaining and trying to get this change made

I would put Bracken County in District 5 and move Lexington Christian over to District 3.

  8. Very glad to see Belfry will only have to play 3 district games.

Just hope they can take advantage of the extra non distrist game to get a solid opponent on the schedule.

They might run into scheduling difficulties with only three district games. As you know, teams aren't chomping at the bit to come to Belfry!

  9. How would everyone here feel if they were Powell Co? They have a program with problems. (The lost to Jackson Co. is just one that stands out) Then after the season is over (While you are fixing the problems ) you find out you are going to play a 5A school in district, that in no way will help you rebuild your program!( It could even drive in down farther)

How will one game drive the Powell County program down further? By my count, a ten game season for Powell would include:

6 Non-District games (Schedule anyone; all 1A if you like; locals, doesn't matter)

3 District games (Breathitt, Estill, Fleming)

    1 Game with Harlan County

It looks like Powell could keep the exact same schedule, just adding one tough game. Obviously they are okay with playing Breathitt, considered by most to be the district favorite. They are okay with Estill and Fleming, two solid programs in their district. They have six games scheduled with less than stellar non-district teams. Why not test yourself ONCE against a big school like Harlan County? If you get handled, well, you've still got nine more games in the season. And I'm guessing most schools in Kentucky will get handled at least once this year.

I understand what Powell County is saying, but it doesn't make sense how it can be a good thing. Harlan County is gone from Powell after this season. Play them once, and let that be it.

  10. As to the other transfer it is the QB from Lawrence County who I think will be a Soph next year.

I think the quarterback is named Boone Goldsmith, son of former Lawrence County coach Billy Goldsmith. His named floated around Garrard County when their job was open, as well as some other spots in central Kentucky. I'm guessing dad is coming to be an assistant coach.

  11. They think that they have an easy win. The same thoughts that they had last year against Jackson County who came in and beat them. This doesn't send a good message to the kids , community or KHSAA from the administration @ Powell.

My point, exactly. They think Harlan County in AAA gives an easy win over Powell (terrible, can't happen), but they are more than fine with playing an A-school for the easy win (fine, sounds great).

  12. Congrats Mister Cobble. I think he will be a very good player at UK. I think he also was a very good wrestler and may have thrown the shot as well.

Patterson, the junior, is the real stud on that team.

AMEN, AMEN, AMEN! He is an unbelievably talented played. I think schools will start knocking his door down this season. Definitely would love to see him in blue and white.

  13. I think he'll get picked up somewhere. He's shown himself to be a capable backup (although not in regular season games) and I'm sure he done all of the sideline things right, considering he's been the Giants #2 for a few years now. I'd expect him to spend a few more years as a backup and then call it a career.

  14. Somerset does have quite a few players to replace from last years team. However Somerset has quite a bit of young talent that should get better and better as the year goes on. Do not count them out in having a say in this district.

Seems like one of those years where Somerset will go 5-5 during the regular season, but will be playing much better at the end of the year and will make a push in the postseason. Until they lose, they are the hands-down favorite in this district.

  15. Somerset loses quite a bit, but they are always a top-notch team. I'd still call them the district favorite. If I'm not mistaken Wayne County lost their quarterback, who was the man on that team. I'd expect them to take a small step back, but they've been developing a pretty solid program. Garrard County has a new coaching staff, but returns almost everyone. The talent is there to be successful, but it will depend on how they take to the staff. Taylor County should be solid, and potentially adding Leonard Macon to their team shouldn't hurt. As for Casey and Jackson, I'm guessing they'll still be around the bottom of the chart, but both sides show signs of progress last year. They are capable of pulling an upset of the top three, mostly because the top three aren't necessarily that good!
