Boyle was up in this game 24-10 at halftime. Shelby looked uninspired to start the game and managed only 8 points in the first quarter and 2, yes that's right, two in the second quarter. I don't know what their head coach said during half but with 5 minutes to play in the third Shelby already had a 6 point lead and by the end of the third had stretched to to almost 20. I don't what light switch their coach hit but the Shelby team that came out of the locker room was a certified monster. Boyle had trouble getting anything going at all because at times it looked like there were seven or eight Shelby players on the floor at once. Slaughter killed the Rebels in the second half and Shelby's other wing player, #25, scored 17 in the third. The big kid from Boyle had a monster night somewhere around 30 points and 20 boards but when Shelby turned it on it the game was over. I'll be the first to say this: if the Shelby team that came out in the second half is there for the rest of the season they could be one of the handful of teams with a legitimate shot to walk away with at all in Rupp.

He couldn't help to be in foul trouble in this game. If he wasn't aggressive on defense Shelby would have scored in the post easier than they did. He just had to bang with two kids that were taller (6'8" Wade) and huge (6'6" & 240 lbs Chambers). He didn't pick up cheap fouls he just tried to do what he could to give Holmes a post presence.

You are dead on with that assertion about how Holmes played. They played this game extremely well and would have beaten a number of teams in the state with their effort. It was just like you said Shelby is that good. They were able to math Holmes athlete for athlete and then some. Shelby's post play was the difference Holmes had no answer. The kid guarding Chambers in the posts was completely hidden when Chambers posted and Wade blocked at least seven shots. A few of those he sent flying past press row and into the stands.

Conner isn't a Louisville school it is in Northern Kentucky. I think it is wrong to say Lexington school can't compete but as far as what city has the better high school football it would have to be Louisville. I agree with the post earlier that Trinity is the best team in the state by far and probably (take away Trinity at the top and J-town at the bottom) has the most competitve district in the state. On any given night any of those other teams Eastern, Ballard, Oldham, Shelby, can beat the other. This is evidenced by the incredibly close scores each of these teams have posted against one another this season. This district alone features three of the top ranked teams in the state and could compete with any of the top teams in Lexington.
