  1. Sorry to disagree with you Mustang, but wouldn't give them the automatic 10th Region crown. I do not believe that they are far superior than the Elder team either. Lasalle in my opinion was very athletic, but not that good as far as true basketball skills.
Since I haven't seen PC play yet and they seem to be doing quite well (understatement), and given that we saw Brossart (without Mutsch) and LaSalle compete toe to toe, I think you will have to agree that they (LaSalle) would certainly be 1-2-3 in the Tenth for sure.

Who's better between Elder and LaSalle will be determined as the season rolls along. It's kind of Apples and Oranges right now. I personally think the superior size and athleticism of LaSalle would be way to much for the Elder team that I saw play on Sunday.

LaSalle lost to St. X who was crushed by NCH so maybe the whole GCL is down this year - who knows??? I like to think our Mustangs would have fared pretty well against the Panthers but that's merely speculation.

I certainly could be wrong and only time will tell.

  2. I also agree with most of the assessment from Mustang with exception to "The Dream Team" statement. The only person I've heard this from is Mustang. If I recall the Brossart "Dream Team" didn't make it to the Region the past 2 years.
Brossart's "Dream Team" had many major accomplishments during their run. I would hope that they would be remembered for the many great things that they accomplished rather than for those that they failed to accomplish. I think it was no great disgrace to lose to Pendleton County in the first round of the district last year and that they were victimized by the luck of the draw moreso than their failure to achieve. Credit PCo for having a great team and it was a shame that the two had to draw in that manner and that the 10th Region title was determined on a Wednesday night in Brooksville rather than a Saturday night in Maysville.

Sorry if I'm over-hyping the "dream team" statement in reference to the 2005-06 Camels. You're right the term certainly hasn't come up lately BUT if you were around during their freshmen season when they swept through the 10th Region Freshmen Tournament without challege and the expectations for the future of the group was at a fever pitch, that tag would have certainly applied.

The word "dynasty" that I used was actually a direct Brett White quote from his 8th Grade days at St Mary when he played in the Campbell County AAU program for Coach Sulllivan. When we occasionally chatted about his high school future he was very up-front in stating that he wanted to go to Cambell County to keep the "AAU Dynasty" together.

I'm not taking any shots at anyone here and I'm speaking for myself and not the Brossart program and probably should stay out of all things Brossart-Campbell altogether. I have many friends and a former player in the Campbell County camp and consider Coach Mike Reitz a good friend. My comments are merely my personal observations of the games I've seen the Camels play this season and an interest in joining in on the discussion as many Camel folks do on Brossart threads.

  3. How did White play?

Brett White is up against it this year drawing the best defenders and getting doubled on his baseline bread and butter move.

I don't think teams respect his running mates and key on him. Very effectively at that. Brett had two points in the first half vs Elder.

Brett has to be getting frustrated that the "dynasty" isn't panning out. These guys were 10th Region Freshmen Champs and were being billed as the "dream team". Here three years later I think some of the seniors are in serious jeopardy of watching the underclassmen play from the sidelines the remainder of the season. Andy Franzen was impessive vs Elder, played hard and made things happen. Kenny Walker put up 17, but gave up about 15 on defense, but he's a junior and will be back next year - who are you going to invest in??? Parks seemed equally as effective as Schmidt and Jonathan Verst seems to be lost in the shuffle.

Mike Reitz is a shrewd old fox. I suspect he is letting some of his seniors play themselves out of a position and will make some adjustments in PT soon. The Camels have a tough schedule ahead and only have two more weak sisters to beat up on the remainder of the way out. They come home to Boyd County then face Pendleton in two of their next three games :creepy: , followed by Holmes and Mason County with CovCath looming on the horizon.

It could get mighty dry and dusty for Brett and Company over in the desert if some things don't change.

  4. Yea except for the fact that Lubbers played a heck of a game and is as big as Mutsch, and Steenken was able to eliminate him underneath offensively.

Holy Cross did a great job taking away the Mustangs inside game - a major factor in their winning the game. That and the fact that the 9th Region officials tended to be unsympathetic to our big men's efforts versus heavy contact in the paint. Coop only shot two free-throws in the contest.

Maybe we will meet up again down the road - How about the All "A" State Finals????

  5. A bright spot for the Camels is big man Kenny Walker broke out for 17 pts... Congrats big man :thumb:

Most of his 17 points were mid-range baseline jumpers.

The Campbell County staff is contemplating moving him to Two-Man.

In all sincerity I'm happy to see the much maligned Camel big man have a great game vs a quality opponent.

  6. Got this info from a friend at the game, but I heard there actually was no need for a shot clock in this game. He told me that both teams shot a horrible percentage. Said Brossart was just jacking up three's right and left. Not looking to go into the highly effective inside game that they have. Guess Holy Cross has an answer for Brossart's inside game.

Highly effective inside game neutralized by Scruggs and 3 of 20 shooting from beyond the arc costs the Mustangs a scalp. Stangs played without Mutsch still feeling the effects of a concussion suffered in the Campbell Co game.

  7. You can take this serious or not. This is from probably the most reliable source that anyone on BGP could possible have.

Do you think this is a revelation?????

Have you been hibernating for the past ten-fifteen years?????

Lexcath is certainly not the ONLY school, public or private to stretch the rules and take advantage of their private (or open enrollment) status. They just were probably the first small snowball that started rolling down the hill. When it worked for them others took note and joined ranks leading up to the whole thing blowing up this week.

This whole thing boils down to EVERYONE (publics and privates) wanting the KHSAA to do the enforcement job that they were created to do. Furthermore, if each superintendent of each school district (public and private) would police his/her own programs and do the right thing, then this whole thing would become a non-issue, instead of seeing how far they can stretch the rules, how much they can get away with, and how much advantage they can gain athletically through their private or "open enrollment" status.

But then if I really expect that to happen, I must be dreaming too. ;)

  8. Sunday, April 6th - Saturday, April 12th

    Pickwick Lake, Tennessee

Weather Very Unstable - Storms Sunday, Fair Monday-Tuesday, Cold, Rain, Wind Wednesday, Cold Windy Thursday, Nice 70 Friday. Lake Falling about 4" per day. 61-65 Degrees

Very Slow Monday - Lots of short fish

Tuesday - Much Improved, Our Best Day, Lots of Crappie and about a half dozen 1 to 1 1/2 Pound largemouth

Wednesday - Incredibly lousy conditions, caught a few, very sporadic

Thursday - A Few Short Fish

Friday - Good Conditions, Lots of short fish, one or two keepers

Overall - Not a good trip to Pickwick. They had a Busch Tournament there all week, over 60 boats, nobody did any good. Will go back 1st or 2nd week of May and try again. Normally do well.

  9. This thread has been bantered in various forums for months now.

As a former Girls Varsity Basketball coach let me assure you that your Boys Freshmen Team will beat up on your girls varsity team every time.

Even in my best year when we were 26-6 and lost to Boone in the Regional semi's, I would practice against the freshmen boys team to make US tougher. We would never win nor come close to winning.

When I moved back to boys freshmen and our present girls varsity coach came on board we continued the practice and the only way he leveled the playing floor was to play himself with his girls team. Same result. Freshmen boys always won.

Apples and Oranges....... The girls can't beat the boys at any high school level.

  10. After trying many different types of baits for bass over the years, I've become a staunch GRUB MAN.

Kalin Blue Pearl Salt&Pepper is my favorite

    Green at Pickwick Lake, Tennessee

    Blue at Cumberland

I live for the strike and the hookset and a grub provides the perfect opportunity to enjoy both. They can be worked deep or shallow, made to dive, and retrieved fast or slow.

I use my grubs with LunkerGrip 1/4 or 1/8 jig heads. The shaft is ridged like a series of cones and holds the grub tight to the jig.

I order them on the web at http://www.lunkercity.com
