D1?  How many offers do they have and who from.  Are YOU qualified to determine who is and isn't. Has any college coaches visited these players? From over the years I heard that it's not a D1 offer unless you you sign on the dotted line. I think they don't signing the line until Feb..

Hope all these players get what they are hoping for, and finish the season injury free.

Do you doubt that Isaiah Johnson and Austin Alexander are D1 pass catchers????

If you do, then we haven’t watched the same 2 kids.

  2. This is honestly one game where nothing would surprise me.  Can Cooper stop the Birds run game?  Will Highlands realize that Cooper has some D1 WR's that need to be doubled and not left on an island like they did the first game?

I'll take the Birds 40-25.  Their run game is just a freight train right now.  Can it be rainy and windy Friday night?

  3. Nice write up! My .02 and I'll use your rankings...

Newport:  SOOOOO much talent, so many shotmakers, should be the clear favorites BUT....only one ball.  If Snapp can keep everyone on the same page, they are the clear favorite.  If not, who knows.  It will be fun to watch.  I can't remember this much next level talent on one team and this high of a prospect in NKY (Kinney), in awhile.  I hope he plays 4 years in Newport.  I'll check them out in person whenever I can.

CovCath:  How will all of the transfers mesh?  Lots of new talent in Park Hills.  This could be a case of you better get them early.  Once all present, football players, and get a few weeks under their belt, they could challenge Newport and be scary.  Being a Highlands guy, I am obligated to hate everything CC but you can't deny the track record.  They will be there at the end.

Cooper:  One thing we can't deny, they will guard and play hard.  Is there enough around Rondon to challenge the top teams?  How healthy is Pouncy.  Love watching Coach Sullivan and how hard this team plays!  Fun to watch, not fun to play against.

Lloyd: If EJ Walker plays with a motor, this team will compete.  Is there enough around him?  I've seen him take over games and disappear in others.  Not sold on them as a threat in the 9th.  Right now, I'd swap them and Highlands at 4/5.

Highlands:  They will play fast.  They will shoot a ton of 3's.  Nathan Vinson is a problem.  But...will they guard?  I like their starting 5, but do they have the depth?  Lots of talent in the sophomore and freshman class but I don't know how ready they are to contribute against the top teams.  Mark my words, the Birds will upset some of the "better teams" on their loaded schedule, but are a danger to lose to "lesser teams" if shots aren't falling.

I honestly think there is a drop off after these 5.  If I was going by tiers...

    Tier 1:   Newport and CovCath

    Gap.....

    Tier 2:  Cooper, Highlands, Lloyd

    Bigger Gap.........

Tier 3: St. Henry, Ryle,  NewCath, Holy Cross

    Everyone else........

Will be a fun year and I can't wait to hit some gyms!

After almost a decade of being completely irrelevant in the 5A championship picture, it seems that the classic Highlands aura of automatically winning state is back. Missed it so much!

By the way, he was being modest, Bowling Green is going to hang 50.

Well, I ain't gonna talk smack if they lose!!!!

👀 The only game this week that has drawn more views/interest on BGP than this one?

    Boyle County at Frederick Douglass.

People from Park Hills and Fort Thomas waste ZERO chance to argue about who is better, why they are better, why their team either won or lost last time, and how good their teams were during the 80's/90's and early 2000's.  Doesn't matter the sport, the venue, the circumstances, etc...

They just don't like each other much and it makes high school sports great!

Go Birds, beat Colonels, in anything from freshman football to the floor exercise in gymnastics!

Well now that we have figured out who might not play.....can we discuss who will play?  I would assume the 1 - 2 - 3 punch is going to be Nathan Vinson, Vinny Listerman and Brayden Moeves.  I am also assuming if Benke isn't playing then your next man up big man will be Nathan Kirst.  After those 4, who you thinking?  Is Lincoln Hicks going to play his Senior year, I would assume yes, if so I would put him in the starting 5.....going to have to wait on him for after football though.  After those 5 this team I get the feeling is going to be extremely young.  The talent is there but need growth and experience.  I would say the 2 young guns who will see some action to develop will be Nathan Rickard and Charlie Messmer.

Anybody feel or know others that might make some noise this year???

Also, when is Taylen Kinney graduating?

Junior Hank Shick will probably round out the starting lineup with 4 mentioned above.  If Hicks plays I can see him coming off the bench.

Anticipate any of 4 sophomores; outside of Vinny, Nathan Rickard, Owen Ebert, Finn Bouldin, and Charlie Messmer, to get varsity minutes.  All are extremely talented and are basketball only kids.

If true on Benke, he is getting really bad advice.  College coaches love multi sport athletes.  There is nothing to prep for in high school to play college football if that is the path.  Enjoy high school while you can and play as many sports as possible.

I 100% agree but I will not be the one to tell people what they should do.

I hope he changes his mind and have heard he isn’t 100% against playing.  Hopefully after the football season he decides he wants to have one last ride with the hoops squad!

Ouch, I would classify this as a slap in the face to Coach Listerman.

    It's not...

Geisler didn't finish the season last year.

Class's minutes decreased tremendously as the year went on, the sophomore class has more than enough talent to make up for this.

Benke is a big loss.  His size and ability to rebound and finish will be missed.  But, the young man's future is in college is in football and I can understand making sure you have yourself in the best position for this moving forward.

  9. Tayden is fabulous and will be. Cale Harris is fantastic and will be.  It will be very interesting to see what the Highlands staff does position wise with these two in the future.  I think many assume Rio will be a 2 year starter for the Birds but who knows how all 3 develop.  Great problem to have.

Also, don’t sleep on Highlands freshman Gabe Williams.  An amazing combination of strength and speed and is already returning varsity kickoffs for the Birds as a true freshman.  Mark it down, this kid will be a big time high school player.

I just want to know what Dixie will do in pregame after Highlands punts the ball 20 yards into their pregame routine and all players chase the ball down?

I want to know what Highlands will do if Dixie's trainers drop their athletic tape walking across the field?

Or if the guy running the chain gang drops his hat on Highlands kicking tee?

Or if Dixie trains carrier pigeons to fly over the Bluebirds during warmups after a giant meal of birdseed?

Hyperbole of course, but "what if" is a game that never ends.....
