Did he reclassify? This is yet another kid I know from being a teammate with my kid in travel baseball or AAU basketball - several of them mentioned in 3 sports across these forums, and I’m surprised how many of them reclass. His Dad played basketball for WKU, by the way, so yes, nice gene pool. This kid is the only basketball player I’ve ever been around whose parents were hoping he’d stop growing (they’ve been told if you get taller than 6’6 or so, it would limit QB opportunities).

Looks like he reclassified to class of 2025... which seems a little odd given the interest he's already getting from big time programs. I watched some of his film... huge upside for sure and can already really sling it.

Congrats to the Tigers on a undefeated season, capped off with the one that matters the most. Told all year that they were second best, and glad they got the chance to prove it tonight. Xavier Brown very well might be that dude, but tonight I was not impressed. The BW defense bent, but never broke. Rash and staff prepares their kids better than anyone in the state. Tonight was another testament to that. Roll Tigers!

Unnecessary to take a shot at the kid. Fortunately for Beechwood, even though The tigers looked to not have an answer for him, LCA’s coach ran him very little in the first half and then it looked like he took a hit late in the 2nd quarter and was playing hurt the rest of the game. Only had a couple touches after that point.

    Congrats to Beechwood!

Xavier Brown is truly the "X" factor in this game. Without him, I would have very high confidence that Beechwood wins. Can Beechwood control the number of big plays by X? He will make some big plays. Beechwood must keep those to a minimum.

100%. I had some time to kill waiting for a flight yesterday and watched some of the Boyle and LCA game. Brown was outstanding in that game.... however, I felt that LCA really could have used him much more than they did. Not sure if in their other games they tend to limit his touches somewhat as well? I know LCA has a lot of weapons, however, if the coach is not primarily going to #20 on Friday, it would be a big mistake IMO.

Watching the game last year, I wondered why LCA did not give Brown the ball more often. If memory serves me correct he had about 15 carries for close to 150 yards. I would think this year Beechwood will see a heavy dose of Brown in the backfield.  Beechwood defense has been stout, so if Brown is able to get 25 carries at 7/8 yards a pop with the ability to break one at anytime it could be tough sledding for the tigers. The Beechwood defensive line rotation will be interesting to watch as well. Slusher has played minimally on defense this year, I would think he would be more heavily involved Friday.

Hopefully the game is as intriguing as last year, without the turnovers and penalties.

I watched the game last year, couldn’t understand why Brown got the ball so little given that Beechwood had no answer for him. Found out after the fact that he was dealing with a knee injury so was limited in the game to about 12-15 carries I think. I’m sure Beechwood will gear up to stop him as their main focus.

You need to stick to analyzing Park Hills football bud. This take is comical. 😂

What exactly is comical here bud? You know Beechwood's played a joke a schedule most of the year, beating up on mighty Newport x2, new cath, Lloyd, WV, Somerset. You guys in Fort Mitchell are getting delusional with this best defense ever stuff. Now that is comical 🤣

Respectfully to your statement about Beechwood playing a weaker schedule, I beg to differ. I wouldn't call Paintsville, Cov Cath, Mayfield, Newport Cath, 6A Dixie Heights weak. I understand that LCA had some big wins over Bolye Co, Mad Central and Cal, but comparing to the schedule It appears that both played a tough schedule. No weak cupcakes in both of their season. Oh and  I picked Beechwood.

I still think compared to LCA, the schedule isn't nearly as tough. And it's not the fault of Beechwood, it just happened that CCH had major QB issues for most of the year, and outside of Dixie, the other teams are normally really strong, but just weren't this year in my opinion.

I was hoping nobody would ever watch that game again.  If you're a Boyle fan the rush defense is hard to watch.  But, like I said in earlier post, I don't think Boyle is as good as they are right now if they don't lose the way they did to LCA.  So if that loss helped us get better to the point of winning a state title then I'll take it.  But it is hard to watch.

The LCA RB is a UVA commit I believe. I saw him in person against Beechwood in the champ game last year and he was unstoppable, even though he was playing hurt in that game. Can't expect to totally shut someone like that down.

With all due respect to a fine LCA team, I find it hard to believe that LCA has faced a better team than Beechwood this year. All the arguments can be made, but they are just “paper arguments”…I have personally seen this bunch of Tigers in action, and LCA had better play their very best game…even then it might not be enough. I believe Beechwood wins back to back championships…they are that good.

Beechwood is a really good team no doubt. They have played a really weak schedule compared to LCA though and I think that will matter. I believe the Beechwood defense is also strong, but has benefited from playing really weak teams all season for the most part, especially in district. They played CCH while CCH was still trying to figure out the QB situation, and basically didn't even try to throw the ball. And Somerset, which is normally a really good team was awful this year. I watched Beechwood and Mayfield last week, no offense to Mayfield, but their O and D line looked like a middle school team.

I just don't believe their D has seen anything this season like what LCA brings to the table. LCA having beaten Boyle, with their backup QB, speaks volumes to me. And I don't believe Beechwood is on Boyle's level.

So you think Beechwood is better than Boyle County? 😂

Who are some guys to look for coming in? My expectations are pretty high for the class with the 8th grade team finishing as a top 3 team in the GCYL and that was with losing the returning QB to Beechwood.

Gotta keep all the 8th graders coming up engaged and playing all 4 years. The seniors that just finished up won the gcyl as 8th graders, but had a few kids leave football over the following years that would have been huge to have this season.

In Beechwood's case, they would be in the title game without Hergott. Hergott doesn't play defense and Beechwood's defense is a huge reason why they are in the title game. I don't think the first team defense has allowed 10 first downs in the entire playoffs including the game against Mayfield. With the line and other skill players on the roster, no doubt in my mind Beechwood is in the title game without Hergott. It would definitely be different and more difficult because Hergott is a great player, but Beechwood's roster is loaded and deep. Everyone would be talking a lot more about Beechwood RB Mitchell Berger without Hergott as Berger would be getting a lot more carries. He went for 187 yards against Mayfield.

Probably , who would be playing QB though? And the defense is definitely is helped out by Beechwood’s ability to control the ball on offense. I think it speaks more to how incredibly weak 2a is outside of beechwood and lca than anything.

Although, without Cam there likely would have been 1 or 2 losses that would have dropped the rpi, forcing a game with Lca before the finals.

You look at the teams with “re-do” players and tell me if they would have moved on and graduated, would their team(s) be in the big stage next week? Honest question and I’m not here to downplay a kids ability. Just saying since the topic of “how many 5th year players are still playing”.

Which teams still in it have “re-do” players that have the biggest impact on their teams success? I’m not familiar with all the teams still playing, but for sure Belfry with Dixon and Beechwood with Hergott would be in that discussion.

Would this have been any closer if it was at Mayfield? They take on a mythic quality at home it seems.

No way. They were really undersized on the o and d line. I couldn’t believe how small Mayfields linemen were. Some really strong skill position players for sure, but so outmatched in the trenches they couldn’t get anything going.

Not a huge surprise. I expected a dominant win by South Warren.

It exceeded my expectations with a such a blow out in the first half though.

Anyone who thought WC had a chance just hasn't seen South Warren play very much.

WC schedule was very weak. That particular area of the state tends to be weak. This group of WC was also just too inexperienced for a situation like this as well.

    Easy call.

I see South beating FD pretty handy as well. FD's defense is solid, but their offense is too sloppy and relies too much on one player.

South will beat FD by 10-14+.

SW is a really strong team no doubt, glad they won. Looks like they played a pretty week schedule too, outside of their loss to the team from TN.

Could see the game going either way next week.

Yeah, right. I guess some might stay, but I would imagine many may just enroll in college in January, especially scholarship guys. They can take part in spring practice.

The scholarship guys of course it make sense. There are probably more of the non scholarship guys though across the board I would think.

How many players that came back for a 5th year of football leave school as soon as their season is over or don't return after Christmas?

Talking to a friend and he said on his son's team that two 5th year Seniors never returned to school after their last game.

I know some will stay for baseball, basketball and other sports, but for the football only kids...why would they stay in school?

Interesting question. Back when this reclassification topic first came up many were adamant that no one was taking advantage of the new rule just for sports(football) that is was for academic, social, etc. reasons. If that was true, why would they NOT come back to school after football??

I felt like we ended up where we should have based on our talent. With the exception of maybe the Lex Cath game, I didn’t think that we lost to a team we were better or more talented than.

We need to keep our best athletes in the program. Over the last 3 classes, we lost 4 very athletic skill players for various reasons. That can’t keep happening if we want to compete for titles.

I’m optimistic for next year though. As long as we can get a QB to develop (likely Pitzer) we should be better on offense, just by being able to threaten a team throwing the ball. Defensively, we’ve got some pretty talented kids back, particularly in the back 8, and should be tough again.

Agree here. Not a bad year overall. If the team this year had the normal QB play CCH has had over the last several years they are likely still playing this weekend. Don’t really see any reason people should be concerned about anything going forward. Just get back to work for next year!

I don't remember Hergott being much of a runner two years ago. We held him in check. I also don't remember one player beating Mayfield, not saying it can't be done but some other players are going to have to step up for BW. BW is the favorite, are they a little or a lot? Mayfield has won plenty of games when I didn't expect them too. I will be cautiously optimistic.

Cam has taken advantage of his extra year in a big way, he’s probably 20lbs heavier and just as fast, if not even a little quicker this year. VERY hard to bring down. Not even comparable to two years ago.

I think that is an important point.  Statistics aside, you have to stop Hergott from running the ball first and take your chances with Beechwood's passing game. So much so, I think you have to consider changing your defense against Beechwood to have a full time Bandit shadowing Cam, Cam, Cam...

Absolutely. Make someone else beat you! Or at least make Cam beat you from the pocket.

My arm chair QB opinion is that neither teams schedule turned out to be as tough as I would have thought before the season and neither has a win that pops.  Beechwood toppling Cov Cath is the closest thing to a pop and I am not sure how good of a win that really was.  Hergott scares me to death, I fear we do not have the personel to stop him.  I wish we had not lost the all state LB Rogers, he was the leader of the team and would have been a big help.  I think MF scores some but can they figure out a way to stop BW's offense.  Will the recent BW injuries have a significant impact?  Will having not had a competitive game in 8 weeks hurt Beechwood?  Will Beechwood try to hard because they want the Mayfield gorrilla off their back.  All those could be factors before even considering turnovers.  My gut says Beechwood at home is a 3 TD favorite but I have seen Mayfield is this situation many times and more often than not they have found some of that Mayfield Magic so I have a strong feeling the Cards coaches will give the Cards a chance to win.  I need to go watch some Beechwood footage, that might give me a better feel for this one.

Much easier said than done..... but the team that can stop Hergott running will have a really good shot at winning the game. At times when Beechwood struggles to throw the ball and run with the rb's, Hergott this year ALWAYS bails them out running. Stop that and you've got a really good shot. Does Mayfield have the D line and disciplined LB's to do it?
