  2. Anything special I should try to find while I'm in Virginia (45 minutes West of Charlottesville) next week?

From a Beverage Director acquaintance in D.C., who travels to the area:

In Staunton, Red Beard Brewing Co.'s: 221B Baker Brown Ale.

In Crozet (between Staunton & C'ville), Starr Hill Brewery: Jomo Lager & The Love German Wheat.

If you're day tripping into C'ville, spend some time at, and try -

    * James River Brewing Co.'s: Fluvanna Fluss German Wheat; Green Eyed Lady Belgian Strong; River Runner ESB.

    * Three Notch Brewing Co.'s: Hydraulion Red Irish Ale; No Veto Brown Ale; Ghost of the 43rd Pale Ale; Brew Betties Maibock Munich Lager.

Maybe not worth a trip to, but look for: Blue Mtn. Barrel House's: Kolsch 151, and Pro Re Nata's Old Trail Pale Ale.

fkw's spot on with suggesting beers by The Veil & Aslin. They're based around Richmond, along with Lickinghole Creek. They may not be available as far west as you'll be.

  4. Was my college go-to.

Preach! The cornerstone of every college man's food pyramid. ;)

    Sweets - Peach schnapps.

    Dairy - Cheese Whiz. / Meat - Finke's goetta

Fruit - Grape jelly / Veggies - Wait, wha... Ketchup?

Grains - Bourbon, Wiedemann's, and Wonder Bread.

I occasionally tend bar for a good caterer. The gentlemen always gravitate towards the Bourbon selection. Many are very curious about what's "hot." Keeps me on my toes. Boss's well is Maker's; a great start.

  5. That is a football game played by Nurnberg American High School versus another American high school team, like Munich, Frankfurt, Heidelberg, etc. Hitler's rally stadium was occupied by the American military from about 1945 until 1996ish. My high school had all of the home football games on this field, as well as our home soccer games and track meets.

So cool. My dad was an AFN / RFE guy in the early - mid '60s. I used to tag along with him and his buds when they road tripped to support the Rhein-Main AB HS teams. Some of my first sports fan memories. I had forgotten those. With Father's Day coming up, one more thing to be grateful for. Thanks for the post.

These pictures have someone in common.

Thanks for putting the two together. It all makes sense now, and narrows my guesses to two. The someone in common is the guy speaking to Hitler, and he is either:

    a) Hitler's DC, "No, no, we can defend against the 'single wing,' but the Americans are using the 'T formation' now.

    OR

    b) Hitler's psychic, "If we don't turn this thing around, the Americans will be playing their Army-Navy game here in Berlin this year."

LOL. And I was feeling dumb too.

  7. In the OHIO Enquirer this morning, the front page was news about SORTA asking for almost $500,000 more due to low ridership based off of 2014 projections. Due big cities everywhere operate as idiotic as Cincy? Cincy treats money about as responsibly as a young 20 something that has moved out of mom and dads for the first time. Probably worse.

Atlanta. Many infrastructure issues need addressing. Instead, a black hole of taxpayer dollars used on flash projects like stadiums, arenas, Underground Atlanta, and its own streetcar boondoggle.

  8. WAY back in the day I developed a nasty case of plantar fasciitis. I was walking to work (maybe 1/4 mile) and back in cheap shoes.

I did two things. Bought a pair of Rockports and a set of those "magnetic inserts". Never was afflicted (well, by PF) again.

In fact, I've wondered if the "P.F." in PF Flyers stood for...

Dad said it was because Bob Cousy was "Pretty Famous." Bummed when I learned it wasn't. "Posture Foundation?" Daaaaaad!!! :angrybird2:

    bob cousy pf flyers.jpg

I'm usually a buy as needed guy. Spend big on work shoes / boots, as I'm on my feet all day. Pay up to $150 for them. Will impulse buy on a nice pair of dress shoes.

  9. Y'all trying to clown people for wearing Chucks, I guarantee your shoe game is crap. :lol2:

    :serious emoji::D

First pair was P. F. "Bob Cousy"s. Stopped wearing them in protest. My ten year old self was mad at Cousy for gutting the Royals by trading Robertson and Lucas (loved me some Beef 'n Shakes).

Mowed a lot of lawns for a succession of Chuck OX's through junior high. The last got me through freshman XC and track. Then 30+ years in "The Shoes Who Must Not Be Named," from Oregon.

Five years ago as a bold(?) fashion statement, bought a pair of All Star high-tops in classic black. Light as air. If noticed, they elicit either "the nod," a smirk, or a giggle. Don't care. If super-casual, I'm rollin' in Chucks.
