Upsets do happen. Newport was one free throw away from upsetting Cov. Cath. a couple of years ago. Any favorite in the regional better be ready to play or they will be heading home with an early exit.

And those are exciting game and defense obviously couldn't make difference. I hate when people say play defense. They shot over 50%, you can't help that when shots are falling

When I say play DEFENSE it means no matter what their shooting percentage, you limit the amount of open shots a team gets. If you are playing great defense it eliminates how quickly the team scores which eliminates this ridiculous score.

This score is ridiculous. Both coaches should be embarrassed. No way two high school teams should score that many points.

Please learn how to play DEFENSE!!!!

When is the St.X football scrimmage

Not sure what ax you have to grind about this kid, but the shots you continue to take at him are getting old IMO. Why does one feel the need to bash kids on here behind their anonymity - always amazes me.

 

I should add, I do not know Jake or his family personally, but follow Cov Cath so it has been easy to see the shots you have taken at the young man from just reading the posts.

No ax to grind. Not a big fan of any kid on any team that intentionally tries to hurt a kid and could possibly put them out for the season. How about putting your long arms up and try to block the shot instead of putting and elbow into a kids head.

When you're nearly a full foot taller than everyone else around you, your elbows are easily just about on the same level as everyone else's head. It's a wonder that it doesn't happen more often.

 

Being the gentle giant that he is, I'm not too sure that you can use the word flagrant and Walter in the same breath.

Not going to get into specifics, but anyone who thinks he is only a gentle giant or a big teddy bear is seriously mistaken. I am not going to say anymore about it.

Is that why the point guard is going to play D2 basketball?

JC is a great player, but he is not a point guard. Would be better utilized at the 2 or 3. He is not that physical of a player. They need to run sets with screens to pop him open for jump shots. I agree that the systems run by some of these high school coaches can be a detriment to the player. Their head coach has had many years to figure it out but still doesn't get it.

Rematch at NKU?...

Never know. Newport could have beaten Cov. Cath several years ago if they just would have hit one out of two free throws with one second to go in the game. Crazy things can happen at tournament time.

I think they should bring Paul Bearer back to be his manager. One of the greatest of all time.

CCH also missing a high level D1 player who is their leading scorer, and another one of their better guys.

 

The game played out to what most expected.

I understand what you are saying about Cov. Cath. missing players also, but CC has more depth than any team in NKY. Much more impressive showing by the Jags with their two out than Cov.Cath.'s. Hope they meet again with both teams at full strength in the regional tournament.

I would be more excited about some type of nice post move and a baby hook shot instead of a routine wide open dunk underneath the basket by a 7 footer.

SK has been underachieving for years in basketball.

Saw the picture of Walters foul on Kunkel. What a cheap shot!!! Should have been called a flagrant foul.

Jake Walter brought the thunder! Covington Catholic leads 48-47 with 2 minutes left.

Brought the Thunder???? That makes me chuckle. He got the ball right underneath the basket and dunked it just like any 7 footer should.

Very impressive!!!! Love his motor, explosiveness, technique and pass rushing skills.

13 and 3 I believe and all you guys can do is criticize. Certainly glad there are so many great basketball minds out there. The game gets played in a lot of different ways. I try to enjoy all of them.

I could care less how they play. Some teams live or die with the three ball. Usually in big games against equal competition they die.

CCH is still down 2 guys as well.

They are down 2 guys, but still have the deepest bench in NKY. and possibly the state.

The Cougars take the win over the Colonels. Conner was up for most of the game, going into the third quarter, there were about three times down the floor no offense was ran however a three ball was jacked up as the first play on offense. I don't understand this type of play. Yes there are girls on the team who can shoot for sure but to not run any kind of offense seems like bad habits forming. Conner ends up winning by 15 and was up by as much as 20. I would just like to see the girls be smarter on offense, maybe that's were the youth everyone talks about comes in?

Nothing about youth is an excuse anymore regarding bombing up 3's. The coach allows it, so the players are going to continue to shoot them.

Of course.....A decent 7 footers presence will always be felt in a high school game especially if you have no one with decent size to match up with them.

Looking forward to the Cov Cath/Dunbar tilt later this year. Should be a great game.

Cov.Cath. won't have a problem with Dunbar. Only have to shut down one player.

This was worse than the tripping incidence. He arm barred him down and could have caused serious injury.
