  1. Disagree....easy to have the best TEAM, but not the best players. It's not an individual sport, it's a team sport. Don't think the coaches should be embarrased at all. Apparently all have seen all the players that were nominated, and that's what they base their decision on I assume. There may be more to it, as far as whether some players are head cases or punks, or simply some may give a coach a reason not to vote him high on the list, but it isn't one coach.....it's all.

Reason being the TEAM that he plays for!!

Come on Uphill, man up. You seem to be a little to defensive about this and a lot to negative about Beechwood.:ohbrother:

  2. Not sure of the process, but I believe all they have to do is apply to the NKAC to move up to D-2 if that's what they want? They could still schedule any D-3 schools they chose, and only be required to play the other D-2's (7 games I think) once. Size wise they are about the same as Brossart, who's had some success since moving up to D-2 and regularly scheduling better competition--"To be the best you gotta' play the best"!! It's worked for BW in football, now might be the time to step up in hoops??

The girls program is the issue here. They are just not ready to compete.

Don't count out the Beechwood parents getting involved in this though. This AD is a lot more proactive about all sports than the former one was.

Football is no longer the only sport at Beechwood. The success they have had on the baseball field has only proved that success is possible in other sports.

I would hate to think Beechwood could lose a good coach, Rick Schumate, by deciding to not take the next step to improve there Basketball program by staying in DIII in its present set-up.

  3. If the boys team moves up, so does the girls. How many wins does Beechwood's girls program have this year? There is your answer. Until both squads can prove to dominate or atleast compete on a regular basis, I don't see a change in Division. Now, the question to why Beechwood doesn't move up in football may be a little more legit!:idunno:

I agree about the girls, but to make all DIII teams more competitive in the region, why play each other 2x. The other divisions don't.

  4. Flop. I think you are right. I have not heard Beechwood fans complaining. I think the Beechwood fans are very humble about their success this year and appreciative of any recognition they receive. Beechwood recognizes they are a small school competing against the big boys and they truly enjoy every win they can post against one of those big schools. It is arguably the best year ever for Beechwood basketball and their fans are just proudly but humbly living the moment.

Amen!!! I'm just waiting for an explanation from NKYBOY!

  5. Yes they are required to as part of Div III and yes it does hurt them. I just want to know where on here Beechwood fans are complaining about lack of respect. Most Tiger fans know that DivIII does not help them be competitive.

NKYBOY I'm respectfully calling you out on you saying the Beechies are complaining!!

  6. For Beechwood fans who may complain about the tough district, with this win you will see a nice side effect. Regardless of what happens Friday (against Holmes we'll assume), you will not have to face Holmes again unless you are in the regional championship. Furthermore, Boone Co. could draw into the same side as Holmes and the chances of Beechwood going to the Sweet Sixteen go up significantly. Of course, all the games in the regional are tough but it is nice knowing you may not face the top 2 teams in the region till the championship game.

I think the Beechwood fans are aware of this. They have been a very fast learn on a very foreign subject. Thanks for your support VOR.

  7. If you look a POY as I do it is the person that makes the player on the team better look at the ast. Flanagan 44,Beuttel 80. No dis on Fanagan but to over look others with better records team and personal. Maybe this award is more personal than fact. If so that is a shame.

The voting in Div III has been personal for years and years.:isurrender:

  8. Any glaring problems here. 1. Trey Beutel is from Beechwood.

    2. Beechwood over the last two years with this senior class is 28-0. Are in the top 10 in the state in Defense in point allowed per game. They are playing straight up man to man 99% of the time, and they do not get defensive player of the year, or player of the year, or even Mr Hustle. They have a player who nearly averaged a double/double agaisnt DIII and didn't even make the team, somethings smells bad along the river and it isn't the water!!

    3. Those boys deserved better! :deadhorse:

Did you say river? Like Ohio River? I think you got that right!!! Petty, Petty , PETTY!!!!:madman:

  9. As has been stated so many times previously, there is a difference in the Catholic Bible, and the number of versions of non-Catholic Bibles. As well, there are other reasons that I would not attend a Study group at Southeast Christian, but the core one is that it is NOT a Catholic study group.

So are you saying Catholics don't need to study the Bible?

    Just Asking>>

  10. What about the schools like Shelby Valley, Elliott Co, Hazard, Bardstown, etc who are just as small but year in and year out are still contenders around the state? If Dayton, Bellevue, Ludlow, etc want to get better, it starts with improving the schedule...from freshman on up. Beechwood has ALWAYS played the bigger D2 and D1 schools. Sure they may take their lumps here and there but it's going to make them better in the long run, and we're seeing it right now.

Don't forget Ludlow's girls, I'm pretty sure Aaron Stamm wishes his girls weren't tied into the 2x rule. The other divisions of NKAC do not require it! Why Not? Baseball does not require it. Maybe one of the public small schools would have a chance in the All A region if they played a better schedules.

Beechwood plays the big schools from 7th grade up they aren't telling their kids to set low goals. They take their lumps but they are trying to improve. Only the future will tell.

  11. You must have perfected this: :idunno::lol:

I don't have time to go into the nuts and bolts of all this, but I would not attend a Bible study at Southeast Christian, as I know it would not reflect my Catholic beliefs.

...but when do Catholics study the Bible? I like the St. Theresa idea...

  12. Ridiculous comment. He plays against the competition on his school's schedule, so does he transfer so he isn't playing against "intramural type" teams, or should he have his school change divisions and recruit more students so they aren't DIII. Pelle seems to be doing ok at college and he was one that played that "intramural" schedule. Please!!!!!!!!!!!:irked::puke:

So do you think playing DivIII gets you ready to compete in the Region?

Romes isn't doing to bad at MSJ either, Pelle competed on top notch AAU teams, but scoring or averaging 40 pts a game against the competition in DIII. There is no real defense played in DIII, at not least the kind that forces you to run an offense. DIII is not the same as playing a team sport were the goal is to win a real championship.

The problem with all this is playing each team 2x it just doesn't give you enough opportunities to get better.

Dayton seems to be building for the future with a fine young team. When this team becomes juniors and seniors do you really think continuing to play this schedule will let them compete in the Region or do you just set lower goals?

  13. My understanding is that the Church encouraging Catholics to study the Bible is a relatively new thing. I didn't know any Catholics in the 60's and 70's who had read the Bible. What they knew of the Bible came out of the liturgy or the prayer book.

This is my understanding too. I was raised Catholic, went to Catholic school and I am Bible ignorant. My parish does not promote or encourage "The Bible".

I was considering looking into a church to attend that does have these.

  14. So you feel it is in the best interest of the schools to alienate parts of their fan base for a check?

Can I get a concrete answer on how much schools got from the 9th in previous years compared to what they will under this new deal. We've seen the numbers from the 10th...

Maybe you haven't noticed but gyms at High School basketball games in the 9th region are not exactly full or even half full. Their "fans" are alienated themselves. I would like to see those "fans" support their teams by cheering in person. Sitting by the radio/computer just doesn't get it for High School sports. That is not what it is about.
