Think it will be a close low scoring game. Our defense prevails again!!! Cardinals roll!!!

I asked him the same thing bc I was confused.

Lost to the best football team in Ohio and at any class and only by 6??? Whew, Beechwood must be the real deal this year. Or are you saying Mt Healthy jus lost to the best football team in Ohio at any class?Kyle Fieger is the best QB in 1a. Threw for 350 and 5 tds vs Mt Healthy, after watching film the Owls are significantly better that MF, and more athletic. They just lost, but they lost to the best foitball team in Ohio at any class. They've not needed him to take over a game. I'm sure the superior MF coaching staff knows that, but hopefully they think the same way you do. -
Not taking anything away from Beechwood at all. That wasn't what I meant.

If Beechwood is quicker than Russelville and has the potent offense as Caldwell then I will be very surprised.

I think you are correct. Maybe someone can clarify that for us.

Jason we were in 2A that year as you know and we had got put out the week before so several of us football players went to Louisville to watch the 2A final and we got there a little early to watch the 2nd half of yalls game. I know a guy from Murray that still claims they beat yall and to this day claims they were the 94 1A champs lol. That was a great game to watch. I was a senior in 94 when we beat Murray. -
By far that was the funnest game I've ever played in. I agree. Wish all championship games were like that! That 95 game was a great game to watch. To bad all championship games aren't like that. Not only 5th, but possibly 8 in a row.

Nothing cocky coming from me about us thinking we have owned 1A since dropping down. I'm jus happy we have been fortunate enough to have the teams to make it 5 straight years to the state finals and possibly 6 in a row if we can get past Beechwood. But I would like to add I was on the 95 team and that was the first year we dropped down to 1A and we beat Beechwood in the final keeping them from getting their 5th straight title!!!!! :ylsuper:While the Cardinals certainly have Beechwood in the head to head battles and ruled the last 5 years, Some fans act as if Mayfield has owned 1A since coming down. If I tallied things up correctly, the two teams are even in Championship game appearances and state titles. Both teams had to compete against a formidable opponent nearly every season. The Tigers had Newcath and Mayfield had Danville. I have both teams with 6 state titles and 4 runners up.Interesting that this year will break the tie.

Mayfield 42 Wburg 0What was the score of the Williamsburg/Mayfield game last year? When Fairview advanced to the championship gzme in 2012 did they have to beat Williamsburg to get there? -
Mayfield has played Beechwood 6 times and is 6-0 against them.
The Cardinals have out scored The Tigers 171 to 76.
Here is a look of the scores from the 6 previous matchups.
1995 Mayfield 28 Beechwood 27 State Final
2002 Mayfield 14 Beechwood 7 State Final
2009 Mayfield 38 Beechwood 0 Semi Final
2010 Mayfield 38 Beechwood 14 Semi Final
2011 Mayfield 19 Beechwood 14 Semi Final
2012 Mayfield 35 Beechwood 14 Semi Final
Can The Cardinals make it 7-0 against The Tigers and the streak continue or does Beechwood prevail and get their first win over Mayfield? I think this game comes down to whichever defense plays the best. I know our Cards defense is SOLID and especially against the run. Beechwoods defense seems to be pretty darn good too. I can recall in previous matchups we have won the battle in the trenches which IMO was the game changer in some of those games. Beechwoods line seems to be very good this year and that could be the difference in the outcome. Both teams have playmakers. So again I think it will come down to who can get the most stops and plays the best defense. Defense wins football games! So with that said I like our chances and I'm gonna say we get the victory and the streak continues on at 7-0 as we get to the final in our farewell tour of 1A. Cannot wait till Friday night! Gonna be a good one! Hope it's a hard fought game that comes out with no injuries! GO CARDINALS!!!!!

If Beechwood does to Mayfield what they have done to every other opponent since the Dixie game, I see Mayfield scoring about 21 on Beechwood. The defense is very strong but has given up enough big plays that it keeps me from calling them a shutdown defense.
Thanks for the insight VOR

I've seen many posts about Beechwoods offense and skilled players. How good is their defense? I agree with Snakesnot! Defense wins football games.

Glad to see these two teams meet up one final time in our farewell tour of 1A!
