They were so fast in the state game at shooting the gaps that my brother couldn't even get the ball playing full back. They had a great defensive scheme that game.

Great job and a good read! For a small school I'm happy being #3.

Our future is brighter than ever! Freshman class is very good and our 8th grade made it to the championship game. We will be a contender for a while. Reload and win!

I jus watched the highlights on our local news and this is EXACTLY what happened as I played it in slow motion. The punt landed and bounced up and hit the NCC player in the helmet. When the ball come off of his helmet, it hit a Mayfield players helmet which was at the 6 yd line and then the ball bounced off of his helmet and it went rolling into the endzone and Mayfield recovered.
It was called and now it's over so there is nothing that can be done.

^What he saidJudgement? How do you have a block in the back from the 1 yard line? -
Very proud of this team for stepping up to 2A and making a statement. New Cath is a solid team and played great defense today. We made jus enough plays when New Cath didn't. Again, our defense won this game for us like they have the past few weeks. Offense wasn't clicking but made enough plays to get the job done when it counted. Very glad to be a part of this program!
It's great to be a Mayfield Cardinal!!!!!!

LOL 78 GuruI don't know.We will have to ask one of the 80 NCC fans that was at the game on that one.

Hate it for #3, awesome RB
-
Caldwell did a great job with extra effort to keep that drive alive.
-
That's trueLong drive and a Sunday 2 bad combinations. -
Mayfield has absolutely PACKED the visitors side and New Cath might have 100 fans.

Yes we are the visitors this year and will be on the same side as the parking garage.Mayfield will be on the opposite side it was last year correct? The side that says HILLTOPPERS? -
You got that right. He has put many a players out of the game when he was playing LB.He was a good runner, but he was DEMON at LB. He put the hurt on people. -
Looks like out of all the teams left in all classes we are the most balanced team with only 185 yds differenceI'm always interested in how much the championship teams throw the football. This year 7 of the teams can really throw the ball and balance their offense. That is up from last season and previous years. The number is passing yards listed on khsaa i'm assuming through 14 games.1A
Beechwood 2579 rush 3,110
Pikeville 1478 rush 3,930
2A
Mayfield 2662 rush 2,477
NCC 1271 rush 2,597
3A
Belfry 567 rush 4,268
Lex. Cath. 2938 rush 2,093
4A
South Warren 1242 rush 3,500
Johnson Central 1159 rush 3,462
5A
Bowling Green 2711 rush 2,006
Pulaski 3290 rush 2,304
6A
Male 3378 rush 2,274
Lafayette 2555 rush 3,844

Tony Brown from the mid 80's definitely needs to be on that list. Another would be Chris Barnes from the early 90's.
-
For sure. PT was loaded in the late 80's through early 90's.And dont forget the Tilghman teams of 89- 90. They put 12 in D1 alone. -
I have seen Beechwood play over the past few years and know what they are capable of, and from watching these videos post on Pikeville, I am excited about this game. Im thinking it will be a tight one in the first half. looking forward to it.

Marshall County is building a new middle school that will combine two middle schools. It will have all new facilities, including what looks like a new football field. This can be a huge change changer in Marshall county sports. They currently have three middle school teams and do not have a chance to play on the same team until they enter high school. With that said, it all depends on how the middle school coaches buy into coach Merrick's system.
Personally I see this as a huge improvements and a wonderful opportunity.

I
I agreeThat's pretty impressive and certainly an outlier though. Plus it's twenty years ago. It's certainly not common for a 1A, 2A or even a 3A to have one, let alone multiple D1 players. -
Depends on how far you want to go back. When I played in the mid 90's I can name 5 from Hopkinsville on the 1995 team.

Not saying I have the answer here but I think not having the size is the reason why. I might get blasted by that statement but I think that could be the reason. For example, Trajon Bright. One of the best running backs in 2A. Great football player! His stats are very good. He is fast, reads blocks very well, and knows the game of football but I think his size is what will hurt him at the next level. There is no doubt he could play at the next level.
I have seen several very good athletes play football at Mayfield. Another example is our lineman. About 12 years ago we had a player named Micah Jones who played on the line. Kid was huge. Another great football player for Mayfield. Well he got a scholarship to play for Kentucky because he had the size. I have seen some very good lineman go through Mayfield but they were smaller and didn't play at the next level.
We may not have the biggest kids to make it to the next level but I can tell you one thing we do have to make up for it and that is heart and determination. We are in the hunt for a state championship every single year. Always have been, always will be.

Not that it matters but Malik Britt of Murray has graduated from High school. I guess that means a few kids will get to move up in your ranking. I am 100% for sure, I watched him walk across the stage.
