In their week 1 game at Atherton, Central Hardin struggled to move the ball. Their offensive stats from this game are abysmal. In a 44-0 loss to Atherton, QB Caleb Wilson passed for 14 yards on 3 attempts. The rushing game also struggled against the Atherton defense accumulating only 65 yards on 28 carries. There are continuing problems with the offensive and defensive lines. As soon as the ball was snapped there were Ravens in the backfield creating chaos. On defense, they lacked intensity and were dominated at the line of scrimmage. Punting by QB Caleb Wilson is also a continuing problem as he punted 4 times for a total of 35 yards. Elizabethtown, lost a heartbreaking game vs Bardstown with a late 4th quarter seam route that went for a long TD and gave Bardstown the unlikely victory, 42-38. Elizabethtown junior RB Antonio Kinzer and junior RB Darian Bryant should have big games for Elizabethtown vs a porous Bruin defense. In some ways, Central Hardin is a carbon copy of last season, which does not bode well for them this season. Lack of offensive production and a porous defense and overall bad special teams play means trouble for them vs a Panther team that has weapons on offense and a coach in Tyler Mattingly, who know how to use them. Under new head coach Jeremy Harness, John Hardin looked different in game one of the 2026 season. In a 16-3 victory vs Hancock County, they played with more aggressiveness on the defensive side of the ball, limiting Hancock County to only 70 yards on the ground and 151 thru the air. The defense caused 2 fumbles at key moments of the game. The last fumble was a back side tackle and strip of QB Tripp Hager for a huge loss when Hancock County was driving for a possible tying score in the 4th quarter. On Offense, RB Trae Martin had some big runs from scrimmage and QB Adrian Lunsford showed his ability to be a dual threat QB with some great runs. His accuracy throwing the ball was also surprising considering this was his first varsity start. But I couldn't help but feeling that the MVP of this game was senior P/PK, Ashton Russell who made a 42- yard field goal, and punted for 62, 54, and 57 yards on the night. One punt rolled out of bounds within the 10 -yard line. All of his kickoffs also went into the endzone. He flipped field position in the Bulldogs favor on multiple occasions. Seneca had a surprising week 1 victory vs Fern Creek. While no stats are available, this is one score that jumped out at me on week one. John Hardin must limit some of the penalties it accumulated in the week 1 victory going into this matchup. As long as the defense keeps up its intensity and the offense limits the mistakes, the Bulldogs should pull out the victory. My prediction: John Hardin 28 Seneca 12
