  1. And, you have probably never stood on the free throw line with the game on the line, if you think the stress and pressure are not similar.
  2. OK, so you have a goalie. But, you're not kicking a soccer ball through a hole 18 inches wide, and 10 feet in the air. It's a different game. I thought you soccer guys new that. Running clock et. al. I would venture to guess that the rate of success is comparable (unless you're cov cath) to free throw percentage. So again, is it EXACTLY the same? No. Never said it was exactly the same, but the comparison stands up pretty well. That is, unless one is incapable of drawing any parallels unless something matches perfectly.
  3. I agree it's the universally accepted way, and it's not changing just because I don't like it, but deciding in some other fashion is not "silly." In fact, you partially addressed it in your comment. They could certainly have a longer OTs. Or keep playing OT till someone scores. Much as in basketball. I was at the NCAA record OT game. Seven OTs. Painful? Yes! But, still a better, yes less silly way, than a free throw shooting contest. Running clock or not, that is a perfect comparison to PKs.
  4. Oh, so soccer can only be compared to games with "constant play time". Which is what? Hockey? Or is it constant play time on a grass or turf field with 11 players per side with a ball and only one can use their hands. Then you're right, PKs are the only way possible to end the game. I can see why free throws was a ridiculous comparison. It didn't meet any of these requirements. Well except the ball.
  5. So baseball must not take any time at all then, because they don't even have a clock. This must be the whole relativity theory of time that I don't understand.
  6. Not sure I follow your logic. So PKs are a better way to settle a soccer match, because they are much less frequent in a soccer match than free throws are in a basketball game? So it's better to decide a match with something that seldom actually occurs in a game? Also, because a soccer match is much longer than a basketball game? Not sure that is true. I've seen some long basketball games. It kind of depends on how you define it.
  7. Regardless of what you say, this is running up the score. Not saying whether it is right or wrong just saying it is by definition running up the score. Unless they were all own goals. Maybe they could have done what oldtime suggested, score only on headers. Maybe sac heart could have learned something, as you say, by doing that. They could have done something other than just kicking it out of bounds.
  8. No they didn't run up the score. They scored 18 and 15 against a team that had lost the other regular season games by an average of 6-0. 18 and 15 is... well... running up the score.
  9. I think the rule was... "1) If one team has a 10 goal lead at the end of the first half or at any point in the second half, the match will be terminated." That means it could have been 18-0 and 15-0 at the end of the first half.
  10. Not sure I follow your logic. He had Highlands 24th and Dixie 69th. Would you expect more or less of a difference. Seems about right to me.
  11. CCH has injury issues as well... a little thin on the back line. Could be tough matchup for the Colonels. Scott's season not too impressive, but a close loss to a Boone Co. team that beat CCH 3-1.
  12. CCH has Scott tomorrow night. Schneider is out? Treadway?
  13. Agree it would seem to. Except that Cooper was playing CCH's second 10. It get's back to the point that CCH coach must not have expected much from Cooper. I thought Cooper matched up pretty well with them... that it was not a lack of effort. But you are welcome to your opinion. Maybe it was just a lack of effort by CCH subs. That would explain it.
  14. For oldtime and groinpull. Turns out CCH didn't need luck. Probably should have won. Again, missed opportunities early haunt the Colonels. Dan chal splits two defenders and finishes. 1-0 CCH at half. CCH gives up a goal on a questionable free kick. Goalie appeared to be undercut by summit player. Chal fouled in box. Day makes PK. Summit scores on a break after a clear handball by summit midfielder and defensive miscue. Summit player admitted to CCH players "totally" a handball. Hard fought game from both sides.
  15. Your statement that CCH quit playing is not a fact or the truth as you say. They are simply your opinion. Before you say we are entitled to our own opinion you should know the difference. You are not entitled to your own facts. Fact: #10 usually plays the whole game. Was removed after scoring 5 mins in and did not return in first half Fact: #9 started every other game did not play in the first half Fact: all starters bu two were out by 13 mins in Fact: many players who almost never see the field played most of the first half Opinion: CCH coach not too concerned Cooper would give us much of a game Fact: CCH coach had players run at half Fact: Cooper much more competitive in second half with some chances Opinion: CCH still the better team in that half
  16. Bottom line is... I said going into the season CCH would be about .500 this year. Pretty close to where they are. The fact that they are young is not an excuse, but an explanation of why they are around .500. Still, they can compete with anyone in Northern Ky. No offense red card, but despite the close score against CCH, I don't think the same can be said of Cooper. Maybe next year.
  17. Can't be as bad as the guy CCH had doing the Cooper game.
  18. Not to make excuses, but this is a very young CCH team. Last night it started five sophomores, and two juniors that play U-16.
  19. Of course these are just opinions. oldtime even gets his facts wrong. You gave yours so I gave mine. CCH did not give 4 and 10 the respect they deserved. CCH defenders repeatedly pushed too far forward and we're caught on the counter attack. You are right, CCH was lucky, but cooper is lucky it wasn't worse. The wonders of soccer. In the end, probably the right results. Again, just my opinion.
  20. I wouldn't say CCH quit playing. CCH substituted more liberally than normal. CCH, could have, no should have had more goals. The substitutions kind of killed their early momentum. I also wouldn't say that CCH was outplayed in the second half. It was more competitive than the first half, but in my opinion CCH was still clearly the better team in that half as well. Granted, Cooper could have had another, but CCH missed many easier shots than the one missed by #10 on Cooper. I thought the ref had some influence on the game as well. Not sure why there was no PK on the foul in the box that drew a card. Cooper consistently took the legs out from behind CCH players with never any play on the ball. While the ref did whistle most for fouls, there should have been a card after 4 or 5 from one player.
