  1. I'm not sold UHA or Christian County are top 20 teams. I think Mercer County will be good but I don't think they're a top 10 team. I'm sure it sounds like I'm beating a dead horse but I believe Paducah Tilghman will be a very good team this year. Also if the two guards from Hopkinsville are both allowed to play they will be very good, I'd say top 15. Madison Central is another team I think is a possible top 20 team that isn't ranked. Maybe the state has too much parity this year, there's a lot of good team. I do think the top 4 are pretty far ahead of the rest of the state. All in all good job true blue.

UHA is a top 20 team. They are deeper than they have been in several years. I think they are the second best team in the Second Region and the top team if Cager and Johnson aren't allowed to play.

I agree on CHristian County at this point. They have some depth issues

  2. Cager is suspended but is apparently appealing a punishment from last year that has him out until February. Johnson was held out of Hoptown's last scrimmage and may still be waiting for an official eligibility ruling.

Union County is a top 7 team with two double-digit scorers who quit the team last year returning.

I think UHA has their deepest team in several years and is right now the second best team in the region.

Solid list of top players in the preview.

  3. Sports writers have done this for years.

You are talking about a group of people who didn't unanimously elect Babe Ruth, Hank Aaron, and Nolan Ryan to the baseball HOF.

We see the same thing in the Heisman voting and other MVP sports voting. We see it in the AP football and basketball polls.

We even see it each week in the Kentucky High School AP Polls.

Let's not act like Votto's case is unique. I would have voted for Stanton too FWIW.

  4. Thanks for the suggestions in the prediction thread on local eats. I ended up at Main St. Grill and it was quite good. The calzone I got was every bit of 15" and stuffed full. I got through about a third of it and it was too much. Will make for a nice snack (meal) tomorrow.

I've never had a bad meal there. Good job Jim.

  5. I've known schools to use two filmers. One shot at an angle so wide that the tops of the lights on the other side of the field were visible. Another long-time WKY coach used to edit out all kicking plays. The rule doesn't say the film has to be Spielberg quality.

I know a coach who traded enough film over a five year period that he could get any game film of a playoff opponent he wanted just as a "reward" for being a coach who trades film.

I remember Bellevue's coach refused to trade film with Fort Campbell's Marshall Patterson ahead of the 1976 state championship game. That didn't sit well with Patterson, whose Falcons won 22-0.

  6. Interesting game.

Hoptown lost to Logan County on the last play of the game Oct. 5 and then lost one of their best defensive players (EJ Austin) to an accidental shooting two days later. They haven't lost a game since.

Hoptown has outscored their opponents 155-13 in that four game winning streak. Neither team has any legit playoff experience. However, I don't see Hoptown's Jay Bland going 1-of-16 passing in the game like the last time. Hoptown has also figured out their running game.

Logan County is playing with a chip on their shoulder and want to prove to people that their first win over Hoptown wasn't a fluke.

  7. Back to playing the AL Central in interleague play which is good. Less travel.

Not a fan of losing the extra day off at the All-Star Break. I think the four days off they got this year helped propel them out of the gate for their second half run.

Hate to see that three-game series with the White Sox in late September. Cubs haven't fared well against them in recent years.

I predict 81 home games and 81 road games in 2018.
