  1. We are now up to 14 kids total between our 2 17u teams. Which is obviously a great problem to have.

I've talked to the organizer of the Bearcat Classic and worked it out so that we can play a game or two on Friday, take our kids to All Star Tryouts 9-4 Saturday, and finish pool play Saturday night before the tournament on Sunday.

They'll have tired legs but they'll survive.

It seems they have poor planning considering most quality kids are starting the AAU season that weekend. I know they are scheduling around spring break but I think it is bad timing. But all should work out.

  2. Hoop Dreams AAU Schedule

April 11-13 Bearcat Classic - Cincy

April 25-27 Under Armour JamFest - Pittsburgh

May 9-11 AAU State - Lexington

May 23-26 Nike Memorial Day Classic - Atlanta

July 9-13 Adidas Invitational - Indy

July 16-20 Under Armour The Final - Atlanta

July 22-28 AAU Super Showcase and Division 1 National Tournament - Louisville

We are still looking to add a non-certified event in April or May to complete our schedule but that's the schedule for now.

Coach, do you have any 17U players trying out the Jr KY all-Stars, if so how does that affect the tournament you are playing that weekend (April 11-13 Bearcat Classic - Cincy)?

  3. I thought at least 4 qualify via the state tournament. Plus I believe a KY team should have a good seed via hosting the tournament (which is a good think when it comes to bracket play).

TheVille2015 already has an automatic bid via where they placed last year in Nationals. I could not find the list on where the #1 KY team will get seeded though but it should be top 6 for hosting, then there should be another seeded spot for KY based upon their history

    automatic bids: http://image.aausports.org/dnn/boysbasketball/pdf/automaticbids/div1/11thGradeDI.pdf

  4. I thought Grundy reclassified to 2015 right before he got hurt. I could be wrong but if he did reclassify wouldn't that make him an age exception to play 17U this year?

He can be a grade exception but depending on AAU rules he must also not be older than a certain age on 9/1.

  5. Agreed that Hall has an advantage over Shellman but its not a canyon. On the other hand I would take Kidwell/Ramser over Stafford/Levitch every day and twice on Sunday.

Kidwell/Stafford matchup should be more Kidwell/Dalton matchup. Stafford is not a true point guard but does well getting to the basket. Kidwell does not see the floor as well as a point guard should.

As a note, The Ville played better (month of July) with Dalton at the point vs Kidwell (May/April) if that says much. The competition was about the same or better in July. Also Trinity's system does not fit Levitch game. He can play given the opportunity. When we played the Travelers in Atlanta, he was the main person who Calipari (whose son played with Travelers last year) mentioned as person the Travelers need to keep ball away. I haven't really seen Ramser played but he was getting time with Trinity, so he has to be decent.

  6. thanks for the info.

I for one would enjoy seeing a game between the Magic and Prospects:

    Kidwell/Stafford

    Ramser/Levitch

    Patterson/Johnson

    Shellman/Hall

I would pay to see that.

I have never seen Patterson but Evan Hall is a beast when he want to. Will Parker could be tough to handle at time as well but he rarely plays well on the AAU circuit.

  7. A Magic/Prospects game could be very interesting with that mix of players.

What the The Ville teams has over a lot of the teams in KY is this group has played together for the last 4/5 years (some guys even longer). This team has only lost 2 times to KY teams in the past 4/5 years (Hoop Dreams 2 yrs ago, and Next Level Retros in the AAU state final). And that includes beating the Travelers in Atlanta last year.

In any case AAU state this year should be great. And the goal is to get as many kids playing on the next level (if that is their goal).

  8. Are their rosters finalized?

    Jax Levtich (Trinity)

    Michael Stafford (Trinity)

    Brandon Johnson (J-Town)

    Evan Hall (Knott County Central)

    Simon Christon(Knott Country Central)

    Will Parker (Louisville Male)

    Dieon Cochran (Collins)

    Kiefer Dalton (Clinton Cty)

Possible: Chance Cornett (Knott Country Central - for April, May only. Played last year because injuries team was having)

Basically same roster as last year minus Kidwell (Collins) but always looking (someone who adds to team). maybe another addition from Trinity....

  9. Maybe you're reading too much into that last name Levitch makes little to no impact in games. While he does not in any way have negative impacts on games, he's in now way an impact player of any sort.

Levitch can knock down 3 from long range. I just believe Trinity's system goes through Ivory, Spalding , and Owens. If Levitch was playing for any other team (for example, North Oldham), he would be averaging double figures easily. Trinity game plan is defense and feed Spalding on offense to create opportunities for others to score.

  10. Kyle Gullett of Johnson Central for sure should have got a tryout.

There are probably a couple of other kids that should be on that list. I know most of the list are major contributors on the respective HS team. I know a few that play a high level of AAU ball that should be on that list as well (Michale Stafford, Jax Levitich - Trinity, Will Parker - MALE) but at some point a lot of the kids are about the same and it becomes a best fit for the team. You have to build a team that can compete and Indiana is no joke, KY is far behind. It also come down to High School coaches marketing their kids to get them to the next level. In my opinion playing on the Senior team is more highly regarded than playing on the Junior team. As most Juniors who play at a high level during AAU season will be playing bigger tournaments during the tryout time (Weekend April 11 - 13). for Juniors, this is the last year to make a big run on the AAU circuit...

I believe the site mentioned colleges will be at try-outs but I don't see how seeing that evaluation weekend is the last week of April.

  11. It's still weird to look at that 6th/7th divide. It was and East/West split for so long.

All it took was the Central/Shawnee/St. Francis and Fern Creek/Jeffersontown/Moore switch to move that line 90 degrees.

Officially it is an North/South divide. It would have been best if they put all of the Bullitt County schools in the same district. Or better yet a different region.... There are enough schools in Jefferson Country to fill the 6/7th regions.

  12. It definitely should be, but it wasn't the first time around.

Doss beat them by 20 back on Feb. 8. When Doss is really rolling, they're fantastic. But like a lot of the Sixth this year... it's so tough to know what's going to happen because from top to bottom, that region is outstanding.

Iroquois is missing their top player because of injuries (Devon Johnson)... He has not played since early Feb.

  13. Those refs were their region refs. They only move for the regional tournament.

6/7 region refs has been a crap shoot at times this season. I think they used a lot of new refs this season, some who was not ready for High School basketball. The crew has usually been the head ref was experienced, with the other 2 being newbies. And at times during the game, the head ref would make a call that 1 of the other refs should have made.

With one player shooting 31 free throws , I assume if you looked at a player wrong, a foul would be called....
