Isn't Joe Walter's son only a freshman or sophomore ?Will be a Sophomore and his close to 6'8.
He is a specimen! I don't see any reason why he would not start as a sophomore.
-
A couple of weeks ago it was the refs' fault; now it's the coaches' fault if they have kids on the team. So which is it? :idunno:
Different subject cat.
-
So I had a debate today on if c/o 2016 in NKY will have more D1 caliber kids then 2015. So it got me thinking, I wonder what kids are already getting D1 looks that may not be a " household" name.
D1 caliber, maybe, recruited and D1 signed much more difficult. I'm sure Joe Walter's kid at Cov Cath be be heavily recruited. Perhaps as heavily as Drake Jackson. Can't think of anybody else off hands.

Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, do not be fooled by this thread that is nothing more than an axe to grind. Not only is this topic asinine but the whole premise behind it is sad. You spoke your piece in the Walton thread. Move on.
Spoken like someone who has an interest in this issue not being explored.

Please answer the question. They are not the same thing.
Your answer depends upon who is coaching, what their qualifications are, and what their agenda is.
-
I coach basketball from 5th grade up to the high school level, and I have been told by more than one parent they are glad I don't have children on the teams and they wished it could be that way all the time. I don't have any kids so that was never something I dealt with. But I hear a lot about it.
I think it can work if the player involved is so obviously talented , that there is no conflict by that player chosen as a starter. If that is not the case, it can ruin not just a season, it can ruin a program.
Any agenda that conflicts with awarding positions on a competitive basis creates problems. Parent coaches are often there to facilitate the scholarship aspirations of their athlete. It is a powerful driver and is can be in conflict with team success.
-
Are they a "coach" or a coach?
Either one works.
-
A good coach should be coach, regardless of whether they have children on the team or not. A quality coach doesn't play favorites.
Does a quality coach bench their own child who has scholarship aspirations, over a higher performing player?
-
What does this have to do with how good a coach is?
The "coach" overreacts to what they perceive as criticism. A critique of an athletic performance is not a critique of the individual. Parents who are also coaches cannot separate the two. If you cannot professionally deal with criticism, then you do belong in coaching.

Onceuponatime, I am a Walton-Verona fan and parent. I hope everyone on here knows that you are not speaking for the fans of WV. Hannah Dossett is a great player and a great kid. I am always amazed at how people on here attack kids and coaches behind a screen name. Be bigger than that! Talk about good things that you see at games and build people up. You might feel better about yourself.
Expressing disappointment in an athletic performance is HARDLY attacking anyone. If we were talking about a football player here, we would not be here, When you have so many coaches that coach their own children, especially females, they reject anything critical and toss each other softballs in online forums. Yet, they would have no problem, and have in the past dispense much harsher criticism to male players and athletic programs.
If I had truly attacked an athlete on here, I assure you I would not still be posting!

I say there is an inherent conflict of interest between those who coach their kids at the varsity level. I personally noticed these issues evolve in two NKy football programs where perception was that positions were now awarded based on merit and it destroyed bot programs from within. I don't believe these coaches can separate both interest and emotion that comes with coaching your own child. Particularly noticeable when processing performance criticism when it happens to be directed at their own child.
-
So Dossett's "off" night included scoring 15 points? Is that right?
Points come easier when the game is already decided!
-
Best athlete in the region, but the kid didn't make shots last night, it happens. This time next year, you will still be on BGP, trying to figure out why SK and Shelby County ended up in the same bracket, Dossett will be playing softball in the ACC, for FREE.
And what kind of criticism do think a division one athlete gets? I'll tell you. A lot more profound, a lot more biting and at times, flat out cruel. Certainly way more profound than someone expressing "disappointment" in an individual performance.

Big game experience was the difference in this one as Trimble just made too many mistakes in the last few minutes.
-
Some folks on here never cease to amaze me.
Please remember story time. The seeds you sow in your garden will be the fruit you get someday.
No, you just have a bunch of folks who can't deal with criticism, or look at truth in the mirror when it is there, I expected more from a player that earns?? POY than to go out with a whimper in a win or go home game.
-
How nice of you to chime in with your un-infinite wisdom after observing 1 game. Calling out 17 year old kids is not cool, especially considering how disappointing your ridiculous observations on BGP are. Put a sock in it!!
It was not an inspired performance, no matter how you want to look at it!
-
Congratulations to WV. I was disappointed in GC and Dosset individually.I thought GC played like they were looking forward to softball practice!

Heartbreaker for Trimble. 3 Free trows with 0.5 sec left.

Monday
6:00-Trimble County vs Anderson County
8:00-Gallatin County vs Walton-Verona
Tuesday
6:00-Shelby County vs Carroll County
8:00-Simon Kenton vs Oldham County
At Carroll County High School
How did Shelby and Simon end up on the same side of the bracket? No reward for regular season performance?

Let's be clear, if you read my earlier post, I 100% agree with you about the officiating! It truly is up to them on how far aggression vs. dirty play goes!!! They hold the whistle and the T's in their hands, it's THEIR job:thumb:
And its the players and coaches job to adjust to the officiating. If one team employs moving screens, arm bars, body bumps and leg holds, the other will respond by playing to the standard that is established by the officiating. Both teams know this officiating crew well, so each team should know what to expect.

I don't speak much with all you people. However, I enjoy your chats. But I saw the exact same thing. You lay on the ground and grab my leg I will kick you off me. Period!
Ditto.

This Cavs roster is loaded. I do wish Lebron would go 1 on 1 a bit less and rune more team offense.
-
Did the Levandusky ouster diminish program participation or support?
-
Yeah, that's what everyone else said.....
I wonder if the Bracken County fans would agree with you today!
