  1. And while I refuse to defend CNN it should be noted that TMZ was the first to report the story and everyone piggy backed of what TMZ was reporting.

This 100% happened and is part of the problem. CNN and other outlets should do their own reporting and not use TMZ as their source. On a positive note to piggy back off a previous thread the best reporting was done by the local Chicago media. Some on Twitter attacked those local reporters and their police sources but so far seem to be the most accurate.

  2. That was the story that was given from Jussie himself. Then he began backtracking. I’m not sure how the media can be blamed for reporting what was told to them.

It is the context of reporting as fact without verifying the story and the wording of the headlines . Then the multiple media members on Twitter injecting opinion and some cases threats of violence against imaginary perps. Headline should read Jussie Smolett claims racist and homophobic attack.

  3. Eghhh...I hear what you're saying here. But I think part of this, which is what makes everything such a tricky situation, is the fact that we as a society expect our news to be as late breaking as possible. This is almost a month after the fact that we're now learning this is appearing to have been staged. Do we want to get all of our news a month after the fact once everyone has the chance to investigate every little detail and make sure it's legit? Not in reality. The media's big catch 22 is having the responsible to get us our news in a timely fashion while still having the responsibility and obligation to make sure it is as accurate as possible. That's really tricky when you have non-media dirtbags actively lying to make stories up.

In 1994 Susan Smith told the police that her car was hijacked with her two kids in the back. That search for the hijacker was national headline news for a week or two until it was discovered that she rolled the car into a lake, herself, and drowned her two children. Should the news media have been waiting to cover any of that until they found out the whole truth of the story? Of course not. They needed to report that.

There are SO many factors in news reporting that make it SUCH a big challenge to do accurately and do well.

There were actual media members criticizing the use of the word "alleged". If we can't even use terms like this without it being labeled in a negative fashion the news media is dead.

I just don't know what is so hard about using caution when a story checks every box for red meat for specific agendas. Regardless of which side or agenda.

  4. Yep. LeBron is the absolute worst.

Got quite the chuckle out of Pacer fans chanting "LeBron's gonna trade you" when the youngsters were shooting FTs. :lol2:

They only lost that game by 43, but don't worry LeBron was sure to point out he scored his 32,000th career point after the game.

Winning will solve all problems . But man Lebron and his team has done him no favors when it comes to PR over the last year.

  5. Sounds like NOLA has zero interest in working with the Lakers on a Davis trade. Apparently they've been purposely leaking the Lakers offers to try and sabotage the young players on the Lakers roster in retaliation for LeBron's blatant tampering.

That's next level petty and I love it! #TeamPetty

I was just coming here to post this, this is next level trolling. If all reports are true then Demps just played Magic for a fool.

  6. I agree.

I could go on and on and on about flaws in the newspaper industry and why it is failing but the bottom line is the Internet mostly levels the playing field and in many cases works against larger, established businesses.

On tangent, think of what the Internet did to the music industry.

Agreed on all accounts. You either embrace new technology or it will swallow you whole. The internet also exposed the inherent bias in journalism . People now consume news with companies who admit the bias. It's insane to me people actually believed for decades journalist didn't have a bias. They are human like the rest of us and have opinions.

  7. The Newspaper business has noone to blame but themselves. They never thought the money train was going to end and didn't take the internet serious until it was to late. I remember on this very site back in 2004 or 2005 there was a topic discussing how the internet revenue was going to surpass print newspaper very soon and many posters disagreed with me and said it would be a very long time.

If your business is standing still you will eventually fail. No matter what industry this always holds true. We are seeing it in the cable industry now with a lot of media companies trying to play catch with the newer tech companies.
