  1. UNUSUAL: Only one of the three region "Deans of Coaches" will be in attendance. Glen Drury of Anderson County (longest-tenured coach in 8th region) and Steve Simpson of South Oldham (third longest-tenured) are on the sidelines.....only Jon Jones of Gallatin County (second-longest tenure) will be in New Castle.

What qualifies one as a "Dean of Coaches"?

  2. Congrats to the Lady Raiders! This is their first district title since 1981.

Lady Raiders Mila Consley and Shelbe Black were named to the all tournament team. Kaylee Clifford was named tournament MVP.

    Scoring for TC:

    Clifford 20

    Brierly 15

    Black 13

    Consley 6

    Gonterman 4

    Clark 1

Wow! 1981 would have been superintendent Marcia Haney Dunaway's senior year. Congrats to the Raiders and good luck in New Castle.

  3. I do not believe this qualifies as "artificial noise maker", although I'm not surprised the AD removed it....path of least resistance.

The responsibility for the crowd behavior / compliance rests solely with Game Management....officials have enough to deal with.

KHSAA by laws specifically state that fans cannot use megaphones. I agree that the refs have enough to deal with, but when it is right in their faces and the game manager does not handle it I would have thought the refs would.

  4. They can cheer during FTs.

Only rule in basketball about noise regards artificial noisemakers.

Who is in charge of enforcing this rule? I recently had to alert the A.D. to this rule and have him remove the giant megaphone from the front row of the student section that was being used to harass players while shooting foul shots. There was no way the refs didn't see and hear this and yet they did nothing about it. It's my understanding that only cheerleaders can use megaphones

  5. If I was considering putting my kid on a "B" team I would want to know exactly what the difference in the A team and the B team would be. I've seen programs where the A team went to high exposure tournaments and the B team did not yet everyone was paying the same amount and some of the B team parents felt they were helping finance the A team. I would want to know if the A team was missing players for a weekend would one of the B team members be "moved up" thus hurting the performance of the B team. I would want to know if my child played very well would there be a chance of him being promoted to the A team. The AAU world can be a different one and parents need to ask lots of questions going in and know that nothing ever seems to be set in stone. I would have to think long and hard about having my son on a B team but it might be a good option for some.

I agree that people need to broaden their focus on college ball. I have son playing D2 and it has been a great experience so far and he is getting a great education paid in full. D2, NAIA, JUCO are all great options.

  6. 1) I'm not sure that most coaches are PE teachers.

    2) I'm not a PE teacher, but I do know that PE teachers have as much down time during the day as every other teacher in the building, usually one planning period.

    3) I think your notion of what a PE teacher is very outdated.

    4) Your statement basically said that Duvall doesn't take his profession as a PE teacher seriously.

Absolutely. PE teachers have a curriculum to follow and standards to meet...just as any other teacher. This curriculum not only includes the physical education but health and wellness. I hardly doubt Duvall or any other PE teacher/coach sat and scouted all day, all season while his/her 25-30 students played dodgeball unsupervised.

  7. Most coaches are PE teachers and nothing against that one bit. The norm is that they can plan and scout most of the day. Not only is this guy coaching great but a great educator teaching honor classes all day. Hey just giving the guy some love for coaching a pretty darn good team. BTW, I don't even know the guy.

I understand where you are coming from but I would hardly call that the norm. Honestly, I find it a bit insulting to the profession.

  8. I actually think it matter more to the parents then the kids. I think schools go way overboard these days with senior nights.

I'm sure our school is one that you would consider going overboard but I feel we do it right. Dim the lights, spotlight, slide show of seniors when they were little kids, flowers for mom etc... It seems to be a big deal for all and a nice way to honor all seniors who have given so much time and effort to the sport not just the ones who score the most points etc.. Also honor the senior cheerleaders. I know we can't control the weather but hope that all seniors get some sort of recognition.

Coach of the Year- Devin Duvall, Owen County

  10. Wouldn't be surprised if Owen doesn't cancel against Grant. They always seem to cancel that road game, but they play them at home???

FYI Owen did make it to the game at Grant and beat them by 3. Despite what many of the Grant Co fans and coach seemed to think, the Rebels looked forward to this game and it was good prep for the All A.

  11. Agree with your assessment .. it's NCC's tournament for the taking.

Interesting observation .. a few years ago, St. Henry girls soccer was trying to win a STATE championship, and opted out of the All A tournament because the 6-7 games would eat in to their khsaa allotted number of games, and they wanted more competitive games in preparation for the STATE run. They took a bunch of grief about that. If NCC blows thru the competition this week, then loses out later this season in the Regional tournament, I'm curious if they would have been better prepared by playing a schedule similar to CovCath's. I'm not trying to stir up a hornet's nest, and it's too late to change. NCC has had some quality opponents, but will the 8 victories in the All A benefit them?

I'm curious, did St. Henry win the state soccer tournament?
