  1. I think that they both have theit strengths. Evan is more of a banger which is needed at times. Jake is probably a better all around player but he gets pushed around too much. I noticed in the JV game against Brossart that they were trying to rough him up and he was giving it right back. He seemes to be playing much more agressively lately. I think that everyone feels that he must get stronger in the off season. If he does, he could be a load the next two years.

I heard that Schulte played well enough against Brossart that he probably earned that starting spot, but it could be Morse also.

Likely it will be Hightchew, Beuter, Ryan, Miller, Schulte.

  2. Omega Man - Your post is right on. You wrote almost verbadum what I was thinking, but your post saved me the time! LOL

This should be a wild one. Brossart won a close one on a nuetral court. I don't think either team is playing their best ball right now. I would think New Cath may have the edge at home, but if Brossart has gotten back to the basics and can limit New Cath's scoring like they did the other night to the "u" less Thorobreds, they could pull it out. Both teams have some solid upperclassman and the wild card is the youth of both teams.
  3. I think we would be silly to think that playing a freshman (Pangallo) would not stir up some issues at this point. I'm also sure it's not like when I played. My parents would have never complained to a coach about playing tiime. I know he forces shots at times but I think his ball handling against the press could be very helpful. What is there to loose at this point. The team is regressing!

I think Bueter should be a 2 this year with Highchew at the 1. Have Pangallo be the back up 1 to Highchew (along with Bueter) this year. At least give him some quality time at the 1 this year. Any possibilty they don't want Pangallo to play this year because they are afraid he may take PT away from an upper classman?

What about the offense/defense substitution with 3:30 minutes left in the game last night? Did anyone thing that was a bit early? Did NCC score the last 3 minutes?

  4. I think that if something doesn't change, New Cath will struggle the rest of the year. They are a team full of good but not real good players. They do not have the "bell cow" who you can count on having a strong outing every night. Next year that could be Beuter and Mcdonald but right now that guy doesn't exist. No one wants to be negative but there are realities.

The guards are turnover prone and can't really defend well. (They should play more zone) Besides there is no real third guard. I do not understand why the Pangallo kid is not given a chance to spell the other two. I also think the Franzen boy could provide a spark. He is quick, athletic and enthuastic. I know I don't see the kids in practice but who knew how well Mcdonald would play until he was given a chance. Just some frustrated random thoughts.

NCC is going to continue to struggle against physical teams because they are young in the middle and thin on the perimeter. I can see Evan Morse playing more and more, he has done a nice job all year and gives them some toughness. Can't understand the inconsistancy I've seen this year from this team. One minute they're making the extra pass and being unselfish, the next minute their jacking up 3's and making other poor decisions. I think they'll be there at the end if they find a leader, or are willing to follow one.
  5. I think the two keys will be if Mcdonald can have a respectible game vs Campbell and NCC's outside shooting, especially Buter & Ryan.

McDonald trying to contain Campbell. He will likely need Miller's help.

Hightchew will likely get the task of defending Burger possibly.

    McClendon / Ryan

    Beuter / Thompson

Hard to say though since I havent seen either team yet only read about them.

  6. I have seen him play twice this year and he certaintly is impressive. Did he play as a freshman? He must have to to have reached 1,000 points already.

Campbell County Junior Nate McGovney scored his 1000th career point tonight. McGovney scored his 1000th on his second basket of the game and the game was stopped to honor his accomplishment. He was a little surprised that he had 1000 points because it was kept a secret and he thought he needed about 30 more. This is a great accomplishment for any player but especially for a Junior. He finished the game with 28pts and 10 rebounds along with a few assist and steals. I want to say how proud I am of Nate. Not only is he a great player but also a great young man. I have never met a young man who handles himself so well on and off the court. He always has a great attitude and always gives his best on the court and in the classroom. I have known Nate for several years and I have watched him become one of the best high school basketball players I have ever seen. Nate, congratulations on a great career so far and we wish you the best of luck the rest of the season and next. I am glad I get to go and watch you play every home and cannot wait to see you play in college.
  7. Simon Kenton's games are broadcast live on 1160AM. I have listen several times while diving here and there. They do a good job and have many local sponsers. It's very cool!

Only 3 local schools broadcast games via Internet Radio that I know of...Cov Cath, Brossart and Holy Cross.

I believe Simon Kenton may have their games on an AM station possibly but can't confirm this, just what I have heard.

  8. The NCC coach did question the call but the officials would not back off their call. I saw this happen years ago where neither ref saw the ball go in. They went to the scorers table for confirmation. I have no idea why they did not do that. I thought that the official scorer was a "game official". Either way there is no excuse for one of the trail officials to not watch the ball.

Surely Grant asked an official why the basket that went in didn't count, right? He's not known to be shy with officials.
  9. I don't think so. I saw Campbell Co's win over Brossart last Sat nite. The Cambels zoned BBHS to death. If they would have gotten the ball inside instead of settling for the 3's, Brossart could have won by 7 or 8. If NCC gets a game from McDonald/Schultie (SP?) they will be hard for Campbell Co to stop. Mcgovney is very good and drives the base line like crazy, but seems to be a little foul prone.

    Camels 71-64.
