  1. Does anyone have any thoughts on what the Admirals will have this coming season? What can we expect from the offense and defense? The second year in a program for a head coach is the year that shows the most improvement. This will be the year that Clevenger will have his name on the program extensively. What can we expect? Thoughts?

  2. Didn't say they had,,, just saying that they need to look at them all and narrow it down to a handful then do

    interviews.........

I get that part but you actually indicated several quality applicants etc as though you know who has applied?

It just sounded like you are seeing the applications as they come in. No harm no foul.

  3. Disagree,,,,, Several Quality Coaches in the mix,,, While Perry

would be a great hire, he is not the only great hire that can come

out of this... 21 applicants and several with formidable reputations

and backgrounds on the table. IMO, the Supt and the rest of the

hiring committee should give each applicant a look. Narrow the

interview process down to the top 3 or 4 and make the decision...

If you know this you must work in the front office. The committee hasn't even reviewed the applicants yet. Where are you getting this info?

  4. ---

I agree with this to a point, but remember, just because somebody is my favorite or yours, doesn't mean he's truly the overall best choice for the position. There may be another coach with very impressive credentials, too, that we don't know about. Also, the job has only been open for what, a week or so? Let's relax a little (me included) & see what happens. We just might see something this week, but that's a total guess on my part.

    Very good point.

  5. I get that if your going to be teaching you have to be approved by the site base council to teach but in no way should they be involved in hiring a coach or approve the hiring a coach. Reguardless of what you know and I agree with you on the processes you speak of.....a school that has quality coaches and programs hire the coach and then hire them as a teacher. In so many words they tell the site base council......this is our coach.....this is your teacher. I know your going to say there are rules to follow and all that business that I've heard from that school before but I can tell you there are rules but there are ways around those rules that still will make it a legal hire. I say this because I know some of them on the site base council and either one don't care about athletics or even worse don't even know what a football looks like.

I'm glad they have so many applicants but if Coach Perry wants it he should be offered first....he has earned that much and I know that's the opinion of most in the community.

If they want Perry they could have already hired him. There is no requirement for committees to be involved. That is a fact. I know coaches mentioned in this very thread topic that were hired without anyone interviewing them except the Principal. The teaching job came later with the same process. If the principal is trusted as being competent enough it should be done this way imo because the coach has to work directly with that principal in the daily operations of school. Sometimes the principals at these schools admittedly don't know enough to make the right hire so they form big committees to give input. The negative on that is that the water can get muddied on what to do. This also gives the principal others they can shift blame to if there is political fallout from the hire. It can be done and should have already IMO. If GCHS is serious about making this happen then pull the trigger. The lack of movement says to me that someone is either not truly wanting JP or they are afraid to do the things it will take imo.

  6. I think Jerry is to Garrard football what Chuck is to Boyle football. Would Hodge or anyone else have been an acceptable hire at Boyle without first approaching Chuck. I may be off base here, but from what I saw on the overall records for GCHS history, I can understand the sentiment.

I hear that they are going to double the salary? Has anyone else heard this?

  7. 1) Mark Scenters was the shortest tenured coach since Gwen Gaddie (before Perry).

    2) The job was just posted yesterday, so it is hard to see how Perry has "applied."

    3) You are absolutely right that there are Garrard Alum coaching at other schools.

I think, unless we were on the hiring committees, having the discussions, making the decisions, we should ALL refrain from speculating about why decisions were made. We can disagree, but to make assumptions about motives is unfair... There is so much that goes into the hiring of a coach the public doesn't see, that it really is impossible for people outside the process to make accurate assumptions.

    Got any examples?

  8. The Hodge to Garrard County is not going to happen......they had their chance when they hired Scenters and they blew it. I will tell you my opinion why they didn't hire Coach Hodge.......first he was a token interview to begin with and was never really being considered....second I would say he didn't tell them he would be a "yes" person and finally back then GCHS was not going to hire someone with GCHS ties. They may now but not then with person was doing the hiring and the people running the high school!

So sad to hear this. A coach with a strong will to succeed and do it their way is often labeled in a negative way by people that want it to be the way it has always been. That type of thinking is why Hodge or Perry would have some struggles as the HC at Garrard. On the other hand if the Super. is as good as some people are saying maybe he will demand the best coach is brought in and given what they want and need to stay the long haul and be successful.

  9. You have a Superintendent that understands the importance of every aspect of a school system. This is huge today. 90% of a Supt problems comes from 10% of what they have say so in. However, Mr. Mullins will not fall into this trap, he realizes the importance of what this means to the community, know different to his employment. Question do you want Stability? Great Program? and Respect?, but do not care how long someone is willing to stay then Perry is the best. On the same note and looking for a long haul coach which is 5+ years today (Hodge or Jaggers), both very quality coaches that are going to get results. I feel the same about Hester as about Perry, but when you follow a good as he did then you do not get the respect you deserve. You must remember this is a business decision, and I can assure you Mullins how important this is.

I don't get the comparison of the two sets of coaches? Hodge has been tremendous in two years. Perry was (while at GCHS) and is one of the top coaches around.

  10. They had a boys coach that would have been there as long as they would have had him. He was from Garrard County and name was Brandon Cooper. His wife worked at the middle school and from what I understand the principle at the school didn't like her so she fired her. It amazing though that everyone else liked her. I think the coach's wife work from grant money. So instead of the school, school board and super stepping up and finding his wife a job so they could stay in garrard......they just sat on their butt and did nothing so they had to go back to Pulaski County. That made the 3rd coach in 3 years for the boys team.

That made no sense. A GCHS boy and this is how he is treated?

  11. Doug Preston???? Why would he leave FS?

From what I hear Doug is pretty happy at FS and would not be interested. But I know he and the principal are friends and former assistants together at GCHS. I think Perry would be a grand slam. I also would think John Hodge would have been the first phone call made. Why is Hodge not wanted (if that is the case)? Hometown guy and one of the best young coaches out there!

  12. I have been coaching High school for 16 years so I do have experience in this field so Im going to completely disagree with you about many coaches doing this everyday. Yes there are a number of coaches who do accomplish these things every year but I will ask you the same question what is their level of competition? All you can do is play your schedule. Western Hills is a 3A school and they obviously play a 3A district but Coach Miller schedules a number of 4A & 5A schools every year. Question for you, Are the only Good coaches the ones who have won a state title? Is this the only measuring stick? There are so many other things that go into being a High School coach.

No. I don't think the only good coaches are the ones that have won a title. Also, I agree there are many other things that go into being a good high school coach. Are you going to answer my other two questions: Who had the 1-10 season? Who was his signature win against. Those are two good questions. Just curious.
