  1. DD - You know I respect your assessments of these games and appreciate your thoughts on all games throughout the year. That being said this isn't like a David vs Goliath situation. Holy Cross is really good. I understand than many people (clearly you included) that think Cooper is much better than Holy Cross. I respect that as they are the favorites. My thought here is that if Holy Cross wins this game I don't think "many" will be shocked at all. It's high school basketball where anything can happen on a given night (on a big stage) especially when it's two teams clearly good enough to both be in the top 5 of the state polls.

I like the common opponent outlook. But those games really don't mean much of anything going into Friday night other than talk back and forth. Cooper is really really good everyone knows that. They lost a couple games to Sacred Heart by 12 and by 5 (wonderful). But also lost to Montgomery Co by 9, who Notre Dame beat by 22. Then Holy Cross handled Notre Dame easily twice. See where I'm going with this?

Bottom line, Holy Cross is the underdog no doubt. But I have a feeling the Indians will show up with a lot of confidence and will play a good game. They have lost ONE game since Dec 22nd and that was by two points on the road to #3 GRC.

I think it will be a great crowd on Friday night as you will have many stay and watch from the first game (Highlands/Ryle) and it will be a great atmosphere for these kids!

  2. This game isn't until Friday night (8:00 pm start) but will be the most anticipated girls matchup in the 9th region all year. A lot of people wanted this to be a potential finals matchup but the draw played out this way.

Holy Cross (28-5) will enter the game riding a 16-game winning streak and have won 21 of their last 22 games. Cooper comes in riding a 9-game winning streak and have won 24 of their last 25 games. Cooper has been ranked #2 or #3 in the state polls pretty much all year and Holy Cross has been #4 or #5 since winning the All A" Classic in January.

If you can't make the game in person on Friday at 8:00 pm at NKU, you can listen to all the live coverage on Holy Cross Radio using the link below.

  3. Who you got in round 3??? These two teams played a pair of nail biters in the regular season but round 3 tonight will be the only one that matters.

Back on Jan 12th (All A Classic) Holy Cross beat Beechwood 48-44. Then Beechwood won in Ft. Mitchell on Feb 9th in 3 overtimes 66-64. Holy Cross did play the second game without Luke Arlinghaus (13 ppg). He will be back for tonight.

If you can't make it down to the Fieldhouse at Holmes in person tonight you can listen to all the live action on Holy Cross Radio starting at approx 7:15 pm. Tip time set for 7:30 pm.

That is a world-class FLEX, my brother, I love it!!  You'll pick the right ones, I'm certain of it.

Sorry that didn’t come across like I wanted it. lol. My point was that the candidates are always strong for these awards. I take it very seriously.

I will reiterate here that if I had a Miss Basketball vote, and I do not (obviously), it would go to Claire Johnson from McCracken County.  Trinity Rowe would be my 2nd place vote, and Shae Steele would be 3rd.

    Simply one person's opinion.

I do have a vote and right now my mind is not made up on either the boys or girls side. So many talented and deserving players on these lists.

  6. Great fast-paced game to call on radio as Holy Cross extends their winning streak to 11 games.

Simon Kenton came out on fire (especially from 3) and built a 13-point early in the 2nd quarter. Holy Cross would respond the rest of the quarter and cut the SK lead to 3 at halftime. In the 2nd half the Pioneers would continue to hit 3-pointers and have the lead until mid-4th quarter when Holy Cross would take their first lead since the first quarter. Pretty sure Simon Kenton shot 13/19 from 3 which is a great shooting performance. All that being said, the "toughness" and "will to win" by the this Holy Cross team showed up late in the 4th. Senior Julia Hunt and Junior Aumani Nelson had huge 4th quarters leading the comeback.

Unofficial from Holy Cross Radio -

    Cov Holy Cross (23-5) - Hunt 20, Hayes 15, Nelson 15, Wimzie 12, Arlinghaus 8, Carter 5.

    Simon Kenton (17-8) - Kelch 20 (6/8 from 3), Webb 18, Pernell 16, Blevins 4, Flynn 4, Gadzala 3, Ober 3.

  7. Holy Cross is really rolling right now having won 10 in a row which was previously mentioned above. They will play host Simon Kenton out of region on Wednesday at the Finn Activity Center. Holy Cross Radio will be there for the call on that one. I am hoping to have former Simon Kenton Head Coach Jeff Stowers in for a halftime interview.

    * Also prayers out to Freshman D'Myah Williams today as she has surgery!

CCH 🏹 | Final at "The Finn" from the Holy Cross Radio livestream.

The Indians kept it close early, led by three 3s from Luke Arlinghaus on consecutive possessions. HC lost Luke for the game to an ankle injury in the final seconds of Q1. Get well young man!

Colonels stretched the lead over the next two quarters, and wound up shooting 56/50/77 for the game. Have to say I really like the way soph Donovan Bradshaw is playing of late; really solid play off the bench.

    CCH: 17-20-26-15 • 78

    CHC: 16-10-15-14 • 55

    Leading scorers ~

    Colonels: Miller 18 (14 rbs), Harney 14, Hussey 12, Bradshaw 12, McGillis 10.

    Indians: Rominger 16, Arlinghaus 9, Crail 7, McElheney 6, Reinersman 4, Adams 4.

    Up next ~

Holy Cross (14-8, R9 5-5, D35 2-1), Friday at Beechwood for a District seeding matchup.

    Cov Cath (KY #3, 20-5 R9 9-1, D35 3-0), Monday at #26 Lloyd Memorial.

That was another great broadcast @Baseball Nut 24. You guys are are so polished and go out of your way to be complimentary of the opposing teams. Win-win!

It was a great start to the game for my young Indians indeed. They had confidence and a little momentum towards the end of the first quarter (17-16) but like you mentioned Luke Arlinghaus came down and injured his foot on the last play of the quarter and did not return. It's feared that he broke his foot. Let's hope they are wrong today when it gets looked at today. This would be a huge loss to this team.

Back to the game...for Cov Cath I was really impressed with the overall floor game from Cash Harney. He can make shots and sees the floor so well. He also does a great job in transition when it's there and when it's not. Bradshaw off the bench was also impressive. Then you have Hussey and McGillis who are knock-down 3-point shooters. Caden Miller finished with a game-high 18 points.

Holy Cross was led by Sophomore Nate Rominger who was solid going up against the combination of Miller & Bradshaw most of the night. He finished with a team-high 14 points.

    * Holy Cross will look to bounce back on Friday at Beechwood.

Runcible Owl - I really appreciate the kind words about our radio broadcast. Thank you!
