Afari ends up signing with UK. Good get for them. Kid is a stud.

Was ready to flip to UC but they wanted him to play safety. UK is going to allow him to Play CB so he stuck with his commitment.

I'm curious why UC would restrict him to Safety? Do they have a lot of incoming CB talent ahead of him that would have created blockade at the position? I see their highest ranked incoming CB recruit (per 247 sports) is Oliver Bridges at #616 nationally and the #57 CB. Afari is the the #338 national recruit and #16 at the athlete position. With Hardaway signed, why so focused on the Safety position?

    We're at Costco.

My parents belonged to Sam's Club when I was a teenager. They belong to both Costco and Sam's Club now. They say they find "more good stuff" at Costco, though...whatever that means.

I only fill up my gas at Costco, with the exception of about once a month when I fill up my gas at Kroger to redeem my fuel points. I don't know if any Sam's Club locations have gas stations, or if gas prices compete with Costco if they do have them...but I can't ever recall seeing a gas station at a Sam's Club.

I'd say the food offerings are about 75% comparable, but as for the remaining 25%, I'll second what @bugatti said about having way more healthy food options. And I think in a lot of cases (although not all), Costco's store brand products are much better than Sam's store brand products. Plus, I went to Sam's Club a few months ago with my dad to pick up a few large shelves he ordered online, and it was wayyyyy dirtier inside than the Costco's I've been to.

I also really like the Costco liquor store. Not sure whether or not Sam's Club has any of those. And I've ordered my last few pairs of glasses through Costco, which I believe you can also do at Sam's Club. The two have comparable tire/battery services as well.

One more thing...I grill 3 or 4 nights a week, year round. I love getting to go to Costco and have the propane tank filled for $8 instead of paying like $24 at a gas station and being sent home with a rusty, greasy exchange tank when I showed up with a clean one.

Sam's Club has club locations that include gas stations and/or liquor stores.  Not all club locations have those amenities, but the same goes for Costco locations.

Sam's Club is the choice for our household.  They've been offering curbside pickup for awhile now, while Costco just began rolling that service out within the last week I believe.

I'd say prices are fairly comparable between the two for the most frequent purchases, so it really comes down to personal preference on a smaller volume of items that could easily sway a household one way or the other.  For us, we much prefer the clothing/apparel section at Sam's Club to Costco's apparel offerings.

  3. Some of the H.O. jobs are field jobs, not all are in NW Arkansas. That area of Arkansas honestly wouldn't miss that many jobs even if they all came out of the HQ. I was just out there this summer and I was shocked by the size and population within 15 to 20 miles of Bentonville. Probably close to 500,000 people in that little corner of the world now.

It just seems very cyclical in terms of their HC/workforce model, ramp up hiring in Q1 and then later that year announce widespread layoffs. Ability to attract and retain talent to the area is important given how competitive the retail industry has become. Seems like they should be able to smooth things out a bit, especially given solid company performance over the past year or so.

Yes, NWA is growing quickly from a population standpoint. Now, the infrastructure to support said growth is quite a ways behind in some areas.

  4. This has been in the works for quite a while I was told...it nearly happened last year. Walmart US employees well over 1 million people so 1,000 in the H.O. and a net 1,700 in the stores is a drop in the bucket.

As far as Co-Managers goes, the company is going back to the same levels in the stores that they had forever. They expanded it a few years ago and it never really paid off or made sense...too many chiefs so to speak. Typical large volume store will have a Manager, 2 Co-mgrs, 6-8 Assistant managers.

Agree with a lot of what you've said in this thread, and while WM is one of the World's largest employers, 1K Home Office jobs lost mostly in NWA isn't just a drop in the bucket in the eyes of the local community. The continued hiring/layoff phases in the NWA area will continue to have an impact on the business and talent they are able to develop.

It will be interesting to see how this competition vs Amazon continues to evolve over the coming months/years... WM has definitely made necessary moves to catch up in the Ecommerce world.

  5. Refs are cheaters..............phantom OPI on titans, kills drive. Illegal crack back block not called on NE. Gronk extends his arm push off not called. Titans getting to receive punt around the 50 yard line, but wait, late flag .... false start on NE, but wait, off sides on T, gives NE a new set of downs. Refs suck. While I'm at it Romo sucks!!!!!!!!!

    Triggered.
