  1. This is interesting that you mention line play as well. I did not see your post as it took me a long time to write my post!

QB is a big issue as well. The freshman team had a 7th grader at QB. He did a great job but 1)he won't be on varsity for a while and with his body I'm not sure he will be a QB.

What must Beechwood do to improve at QB and the line?

  2. Come on TP...47 yards on 10 carries in the 1st half against what is arguably the greatest 1A team ever assembled, with potentially the best MLB in MF history, is not too bad :)

If I read correctly, MF had 367 rushing yards last year and 105 this year (probably 3/4 of those on the final 2 drives) against a pretty small inexperienced defense. Do you stand behind the post from another MF fan that you guys are "wayyyy" better than last year? No way! Shelton was a one-man wrecking crew last year.

Vocke was hyped and you were disapointed because he looked average, but BW fans know he's better. Jackson was hyped and I for one was disappointed because I was looking for a kid cutout of Shelton's mold, but MF fans know he's better. Peyton Manning looked less than average against SD 2 days ago and he's a HOF'er. Neither kid is an average HS player so we can stop saying that...

Bottomline: MF did what good teams do and that was capitalize on mistakes and forced BW into being one-dimensional with their less-than capable passing game. BW shtudown the running game, but wasn't able to contain your speed & experience with our secondary which all BW fans know has been an achilles heel against good QB's.

We can do all the would've/could've/should've's we want, but in the end BW didn't rise to the occasion and didn't seem to have that fire in their gut like the NCC and FF games. Intimidated? I don't think so, but perhaps. IMO, MF wins 2 out of 3 times if it's best-of-three...But, we just don't have that luxury.

I hope like heck you get your doors blown off again this year, but with so much senior leadership/experience at pretty much every key position like LCA had last year...I just don't see it happening again this year.

Be safe and hope both teams stay injury-free.

CT, well stated on all points.

  3. For the record, you saw an edited version that was extremely unfair to Conner. The reality was that he was up at that board for 15-20 minutes answering their questions and did a very good job, not struggling on a single question, until the coaches then threw out a question to him in which they misidentified a defensive scheme and it confused Conner. They then elected to air that very, very brief portion of his entire time up at the board in an effort to justify elminating him. I mean, seriously, the kid was ranked #1 by all the coaches after 4 full days and going into the last day at FBU - which was only a 1/2 day - and dropped all the way to #4, despite having an overall solid last practice (once again, they aired one of the few bad passes he had that practice)? The reality is that that were looking for human interest stories and he just didn't really have one. He's a smart, polite kid from an upper class family in Union, Kentucky. Boring - for TV standards. :sssh:

Conner's not a perfect QB, not close and I'm not claiming such. But he's a pretty bright kid (good enough for Harvard) and I'm certain he can read defenses as well as most QB's his age and on par with the other remaining candidates on the show. Hope they do well - it's a fun show to watch. It just would be a bit more fun if he was still part of it.

It sounds like you have alot of detail on what happened and it sounds pretty believable because all media clips the excerpts they need to spin the story the way they want it. Obviously Conner is an excellent QB and I am sure at Harvard he will learn everything he needs to know as a student athlete. Best wishes to Conner.

  4. Gallatin County has a lot of good looking young players. They took their lumps tonight but no shame in losing to Beechwood like this. That happens to a lot of teams. Gallatin's offense is very diverse. They played hard all night. I look for the Wildcats program to be another one of those new programs on the rise.

As to the Tigers, they did their thing. Took care of business and got everyone on the field, including the freshmen. Next week a rematch with Bellevue who will come out with both barrels blazing after getting run over by Beechwood in the regular season.

But even if Bellevue has "both barrels blazing" do you think it will be a close game? The first time around it was 52-7.
