Beechwood by 4 touchdowns? Wow. That's strong. Mayfield and the rest of the 1A teams better get ready for 3 years of Beechwood dominance starting next year. I knew Beechwood was great but Trinity couldn't beat HHS freshmen by 4 touchdowns. The birds wheels would really have to fall off tomorrow night to lose by four touchdowns.
It was close to 4 TD win. They had a 4 TD lead in the 4th quarter.

34-7 Beechwood to start 4th.
-
I predict 35-7 tigers. The qb for beechwood is an excellent player. The tigers also got the kid from Simon Kenton (32) "transferred". Beechwood returns a 3 year starter at TE (combs), all 5 online man are back (however, not as good as you would think) and the QB is back for his second year as starter. This kid probably should be starting varsity. The QB will be the difference.
Who in this group of lineman started last year on the Beechwood freshman team?

Ram's Results. Ram went 4-2 in the first week of predictions. Blue means Ram was correct and Red means Ram had a setback
Ram's Picks…………………………………………………….……..Game Finals

Magoffin County 35 West Carter 12…………………..Magoffin County 28 West Carter 26
You sound like a politician. You weren't incorrect....you had a setback! :-) (kidding)
nice job, to pick 4 out of 6 is good job. You had the Lawrence county point total nearly correct. Apparently the defense forget to come out of the locker room though!

Read the thread they play Saturday night! SK will beat NCC by 3 touchdowns!
That was the point!
-
I will tell you right now, SK will not beat NCC on Friday night!

Koz was probably mad about all the ankle twisting and taking out of the knees of his players. Does Brilz coach that? Might have been what he asked. Who knows , do you, I wasnt at the game.
There was one call for chop block in this game......against Holy Cross!
How do you know about all the ankle twisting and taking out of the knees if you were not there?
Please define ankle twisting. I'm intrigued!

As hrcarrier said, Simon Kenton is getting better. They are a solid team, not spectacular. They do everything pretty well and they don't make mistakes. They looked better now than when Beechwood played them earlier in the year. If they keep improving, who knows. I still have some doubts about them when it comes to district play but the district is not a world beater this year. They could go undefeated but I still don't see them being any kind of a serious threat to the top tier 6A teams. They don't have that kind of talent. They did a good job containing Holmes' speed but Holmes had no Peterson and no Coston. Holmes had big breakdowns on two pass plays. Easy TD's for SK. SK hit Sampson for a 70 yard TD play on a screen. Caught Holmes in a blitz. Big plays did Holmes in and ineffective offense with no Coston or Peterson, but credit the SK defense too. They play well as a team.
Does anyone besides VOR have any game info? VOR were you there with the Tigers off? why were the players missing?
-
Sk is 3.5-0!
-
Bring on the Bluebirds.
Not anytime soon for sk!
-
Why do I feel like I have to cheer for Holmes?
-
If by turf field you mean better venue then I agree. If by anything else I couldn't disagree more. Tom Ellis field is a great place to watch a game, and always will be.
Didn't Holy Cross start playing at Scott a few years ago in the playoffs, when Holmes also got to host a game?
I think a large number of Holy Cross students come from the area of Taylor Mill and Independence so the venue probably works out pretty good for them. Does it matter if you get on a bus to go over to Holmes or further out to Scott. It is under 5 miles out to Scott.
There was a decent crowd there for a Thursday night game. I know Beechwood had volleyball and girls soccer games. Talking with HC parent they said there was a boys soccer game.
I don't know what Holy Cross has to pay to rent the facility but Scott High School Athletic Director Ken Mueller is a great guy and would do anything to help any student athlete in Northern Kentucky.
I noticed that Holy Cross has male cheerleaders. Beechwood had a kid a few years back but I think that is the first time I've seen multiple male cheerleaders at the high school level. Can anyone comment how long this has been going on? I didn't sit and watch them so do they do any of the things that you see at the college level? They looked athletic, not as strong as their college counterparts.
-
Beechwood looks like an over-sized Frosh team or a JV team at best. They are tiny.
It was Thursday night!
Beechwood must have 25 coaches.
While they do have a lot of coaches, I think I saw middle school and freshman coaches there tonight. Also the coaches that are normally in Mayfield were probably there too! :thumb:

Not saying much for the Cooper and Conner win over HC.
Without pngallo and puncey, HC is different team.

Why does cov cath play so many freshman games on Wednesday?
-
Not bragging, just stating the facts. lol
Now, if we were to go undefeated, I may brag a little.
I was surprised when you posted that comment in the Cov Cath thread. It is an election year so you have the right to change you mind without any consequences!
Congrats to Raceland JV team. It is nice to be 3-0. All games matter or they wouldn't keep score. All kids need to learn how to win!
-
Raceland JV improves to 3-0.This is the reason I stand and shake my head when you see a team taking a knee in a JV or Freshman game. Why do that, it's a game to develop players for Varsity. You want as many reps and plays as possible.
I think all this started when they started having JV championships and Freshmen Championships. That level is not about winning championships, it's about getting better so you can win State Championships. When was the last time you heard someone brag, "we were undefeated in JV my junior season". You don't, because varsity is all that matters.

Was the hit on Gerdman legal? Clean?
There is some speculation that the injury is very serious.
Far sideline. Hard to see. It looked to me like he made a hard plant to try and cut back inside from the sideline and it gave out on the cut. The Beechwood coaches did seem upset about something and talked with the officials as Erdman was being looked at.Just to be clear there were 2 different plays as indicated in previous post by LeeCorso.
The questionable hit happened with the Tigers on defense with Erdman pursuing the play. I didn't think it was a crack back but the tall receiver (#11) delivered the hit high with the shoulder to the helmet or high shoulder area. Don't know if that is legal in high school or not.
The injury occurred on the Tigers next offensive series. Erdman had just picked up a first down after a 20 yard gain on the sideline in front of the Beechwood bench (far sideline). Didn't look like he got hit but as he was going out of bounds he just went to the ground. I don't know the extent of the injury.
Holmes has some serious talent. Very undisciplined and looked to be out of shape. Congrats and good luck. (especially next week)

Actually the JV team kicked in the scrimmage games but used varsity Miles Seletto as the kicker. After the first Tiger touchdown they did try to kick but it was pushed back 15 yards due to a penalty. Kick was short.
On a special team related note: I thought SK scored on punt return for TD in the JV game.
-
As for CovCath, they have 1 QB, 1 true RB and the receivers go 2 deep.
Then it would have been a good time to develop another running back or get the back up QB some more snaps so he is ready if needed.
I don't think the team losing badly needs to take their first string out unless that creates a mismatch going the other direction. Often times the first string of losing team is comparable to 2nd string of winning team.
I think every player played in Beechwood's 20-22 JV loss to SK. I'm not sure that's the right thing to do either as I don't think SK was taking that approach. Hopefully that benefits the Tigers in the future.
-
Regardless SK won!!!! Good job Pioneers!!!
You certainly use the big grin emoticon a lot!
Does SK have a kicker for JV? Went for the 2pt conversion from the beginning of the game?
-
Um...SK has played two games. Are you saying Danville and Beechwood are "nobodies"?
I think what he means is compared schedule to the other 6A teams from NKY. There is a difference!

Maybe if SK played Ludlow, Bellview and Dayton every year, you would respect the strength of schedule?I'm assuming they weren't available or they would be on the schedule!

Pendleton Looked very good led by Kyle Silbersack who had 6 touchdowns in the loss which happens to be a school record
They had 6 touchdowns yet only 37 points? Not a very good PAT success!

Now that edit line is a classic! :-)
I think if Tigers don't get have turnover (interception) it would have gotten really ugly. That gave some life to the Bluebirds.
What happened on the that pass? Was Fieger's arm stopped or hit when throwing. Had to be the worst thrown ball he has ever had.
