  1. Highlands bangs out 16 hits in the win at Bellevue Vets field. Kenny Ball and Conner Kreeger led the Birds at the dish with 3 hits apiece. Jake Whitford had a solo home run for the Birds and 2 RBI. Todd Ramey and Grayson Heck each had 2 hits.

Joe Martin started and went 4 2/3 innings for the win. Jake Noe finished it with 2 1/3 innings in relief. Highlands moves to 8-3 on the season.

Tate Grainger started for Bellevue and took the loss. Grainger hit a 2 run home run in the first inning to stake Bellevue to an early 3-0 lead. Brady Hayes pitched 2 innings in relief and #10 pitched a scoreless 7th for the Tigers.

  2. The pitching depth bodes well for the regional tourney Q.

No varsity home games scheduled this week. Birds have a district game at Bellevue on Wednesday and 3 games at Scott in the Doc Morris. Thursday vs Scott, Friday vs LexCath and Saturday morning vs Boyle County.

  3. Joe Martin also homered for the Birds.

The pitching depth of Highlands was evident once again. Lou Bunning started and went 4 innings and left with the game tied at 3. Ethan Doty relieved and gave up only 1 earned run in 3 innings.

Cameron Edwards pitched for the Camels. I left after the 5 inning with he Camels up 4-3. Not sure if Edwards was in the game when the Birds' bats came alive, scoring 6 runs in the 6th and 4 more in the 7th for the final margin.

  4. With the layoff since last Friday's DH, Coach B will have his pick of any 1 of 5 starting pitchers for this game, which is the 2nd game of a DH scheduled for 5:00 pm.

HHS plays Henry Clay at 3:00 pm also at CC.

Thinking Mitch Jones goes in game one so it's a toss up between Joe Martin, Rick Raisor, Lou Bunning or Conner Kreeger vs the Camels. HHS plays at Elder on Sunday at 1:00 pm.

No idea who toes the rubber for the Camels.

  5. Facts re the coach telling the kids to delete recordings/videos is just not true. It is sad that fox19 can simply rely on the unsubstantiated hearsay from a parent and publish it as gospel.

It is a sad day indeed when the head coach is being vilified for doing everything by the book. And to make matters worse the national news picked up on the unsubstantiated story and ran with it, naming the coach by name.

  6. But for a few base running gaffes the Birds would have had a little breathing room.

Strong first outing by Joe Martin. Pitched 5 1/3 innings allowing just 3 earned runs. Jake Noe retired all 4 batters he faced in relief for the win and was helped out when Luke Hennigan gunned down a base runner in the top of the 6th inning to end a scoring threat.

Birds still with Mitch Jones, Conner Kreeger and Ethan Doty available to throw tomorrow in the twin bill.

  7. Great outing by Rick Raisor. 4 IP. 2 hits 1 BB 9 Ks.

Coaches were able to get the entire roster (save PO Mitchell Jones) in the game.

Big 3 rbi 2B by DJ Mills in the 1st and the Birds were off to the races. Birds scored in every inning but the 5th. I think every starter may have had at least 1 hit.

Shout out to JR John Penrod on his first varsity hit and rbi. Kenny Ball and Jacob Noe both had pinch hit rbi doubles.
