Where was Whitford playing? Had no idea Ramey played SS.
2nd base.
-
Third time's the charm for the Red Colonels. After losing twice to the blue Colonels earlier Dixie turns the tables and gets the dub.

Pitching Matchup was Jones for the Birds and Holbrook for the Indians. Was told by a MC player that Holbrook was their # 1 or 2 starter.
Totals bear out that this was a very even game.
Madison Central 5 4 1
Highlands 3 7 1
Birds were a little unlucky in the top of the 5th when, with the bases loaded and 2 runs already in for MC, a sharply hit ball to SS which would have been most certainly a double play, took a wicked hop and hit Todd Ramey in the throat, allowing MC to take the lead 4-3. Ramey showed me the stitches on his neck after the game.
MC is solid and made several nice defensive plays. They aren't ranked #5 in Ky for nothing. With their win over Conner I think they are 18-4 now.
Two very good teams. Kuddos to Coach B for scheduling this game. It will help get the Birds' ready for the post season.

Game was well played by both squads. Birds scored 2 in the first and added another on a Whitford HR in the 3rd inning
MC scored all 5 of their runs in the 5th inning.

From the results of the last 2 district games (3-2 loss to Highlands and 7-1 win vs. Bellevue) I would say that NCC seems to have righted the ship and is playing much better baseball of late.
Wouldn't be surprised to see them with a winning record once post season starts.

Official line for the game was as follows:
Highlands 15 14 1
Campbell County 7 8 6
-
About 90 minutes from NKY. It's near Bardstown

Congrats to Highlands' Senior Joseph Martin (RHP/1B/3B) who has committed to continuing his education and baseball career at NAIA St. Catharine College.
Joe is the 3rd Highlands senior to officially commit to play baseball in college (Jones - KWU, Ramey, Georgetown).
Congrats to Joe and his family and to Coach Baioni and his staff.

Who pitched for both squads?

Birds' pitching depth is what sets the team apart from other high school teams. They have several hurlers who can shut their opponents down.
The fact that SO Doty didn't get a start on the mound until game 15 of the season speaks volumes of the depth this year.
If the Birds' bats stay hot they have a legitimate chance at making a very deep postseason run.

Can a mod merge the threads.

Final from Highland Park.
Great pitchers duel between Joe Martin and Grant Moeves who both threw conplete games.
NCC scored both of their runs in the first on a single by Brandon Gray, double by Zack Pangallo and a single by Spencer Pangallo.
Martin fanned 12 while not walking a single batter. The Birds scored the winning run in the bottom of the 7th inning on a rocket shot to left by JR Conner Kreeger. It had to be scored as a single but would have been at least a double but more likely a triple if it hadn't plated the winning run. Kreeger later tweeted that it was the farthest single he had ever hit.
NCC is a dangerous team with Moeves on the bump. His curve ball was excellent today. I don't want to play them on Memorial Day in Florence.
Martin was masterful for the Birds. The pitching depth for the Birds was evident once again. Their relievers are getting as much work recently as Maytag repairmen.

Great pitchers duel. Both hurlers went the distance. NCC is a different team than their 6-11 record with him on Moeves on the bump

Pat Towles will be the starter and lead the Cats to a bowl this season.
-
Heard BB hit 2 HRs and the wind was blowing out at St Mary's field.
Pitzer started for CCH (4 innings), relieved by Young (2 innings), and Galvin pitched the 7th for the dub.
No report on who pitched for the Stangs.

6 errors?
How many of the 5 runs were earned?
6 CovCath errors would then mean Haughy would have needed to get 27 outs.
-
Can a mod fix the title please? The keys on my device are too darn small.
-
Final per the KHSAA scoreboard. The Camels turn the tables and avenge a 5-0 loss to the Colonels earlier in the season.
Heard Brian Haughy pitched a complete game for CovCath.
Not sure who threw for Campbell.
-
Both are very good pitchers equally as worthy of that title. And I'm not trying to be a baby kissing politician.
I guess the real question is who starts the Regional opener on Memorial Day?
-
Need an update from Hellbird.
Know they lost a lot to graduation last year.
-
That's a REALLY tough draw for SK.
Playing good teams gets you ready for post season. SK will benefit greatly by playing these games.

Is Griff or Hank Dixie's ace?
-
Is this tourney over or do the pool winners play today?
No games today

Strike zone changed substantially in the 7th. Pitches that had been called strikes the entire game were not being called strikes in the bottom of the 7th inning. HHS reliever was definitely getting squeezed at the end.
Nice to see Ricky Raisor come in and slam the door. Highlands' pitching depth is evident once again.
DJ Mills hit a home run for the Birds.
#24 did a nice job in relief for the Eagles.

The umpire called the runner safe. This was one of the 5 outs the Birds had to record in the 5th inning.
