  1. Explain the red cards............legit or a touchy ref?

The red cards on the player I felt were legit. Of course, I am rooting for the Stangs so maybe I could not see the play develop correctly through my rose colored glasses. The red card on the coach, I felt was touchy. One of his players had just been injured on a Stangs corner kick and the ball was still being kicked around. The ref was allowing play to continue and the players on both teams were calling for the ball to be put out of bounds. The Bourbon coach began screaming at the ref that one of his players was injured. The ref approached the coach, attempting to explain why he was allowing play to continue, while at the same time presenting a yellow card. When the coach commented that he did not care, the ref changed the color to red and pointed him off the field. The ref probably did the right thing. To me, it just seemed that the coach had concern for his player. Should he have said that he did not care that he was getting a yellow card? Probably not. Not a good example for your team.

  2. Bourbon Co. takes the early lead on a laser shot, three minutes into the first half. The Mustangs take over at that point and score the next four goals from Jake Jennings, Drew Berkemeyer, Nick Dierig, and a PK by Josh Keuper. Three red cards for Bourbon Co. in this game, including one for the Bourbon Co. coach. Mustangs play Harrison Co. on Thursday night, while Bourbon takes on Holy Cross.

  3. Seems like way too much stock put into Soccerrama results, but that happens every year. Might want to play some actual games before getting too excited with winning a scrimmage game where a lot of kids play who normally may not even see the field. Brossart was thoroughly dominated in the first half of that game by what is really just an average CCH squad. Colonels look to have some issues with scoring this year after the loss of a talented senior class.

Very likely. CCH was moving the ball very well in the first half. I agree that Soccerama are scrimmages and that coaches are looking at a lot of player combinations. Soccer season is still in its infancy.

  4. Perhaps a private messaging campaign to THE GURU may make that happen......... :dancingpa

Oh please GURU, make it happen......Especially since the BGP has now become so large it has begun eliminating the competition (NKYSOCCER.com). Now is the time to make this the elite Soccer blog site and capture all of those now wayward, wandering bloggers looking for a place to land....people like Redhawks and IU5andcounting among others.......

If you build it, they will come.

Guru, I would like to see soccer have its own forum.

  5. Since you asked

Saw the Dixie/ Pendleton Cty game prior to the CCH/BB game......I think Dixie may have a long year.......Sorry....Didn't see 3 passes strung together all night.

HC will struggle this year...IMO......Lost a lot when ther Seniors left....May finish third in the District to Latin this year.....

HHS and NCC look to be strong. I know HHS lost at Soccerama but can't believe they showed their all.

Ryle lost a lot with their outgoing Seniors, but they do have some quality replacements coming up

St Henry will win their share of games but they lost a lot in the outgoing seniors as well.

Boone has a lot returning but can they pull it all together at the right time like they did last year? That is the question.

and then CCH......CCH lost a lot of experience and soccer IQ with their outgoing Seniors. They have a lot of talent, but have battled injuries and are still looking to find not only their starting line up, but their identity.......JR will have them gel'd and ready when the games matter.............

All this is the opinion of an old observer.....nothing more....

But as a coach told me recently, juniors last year who are now seniors take ownership of their team and increase their play which makes the new team stronger.

  6. Dominate? Here are some stats from RIHERD's KHSAA .......

    Last 4 years....2009 - 2012 St Henry vs Parochial ...

    School.............Record.......Regional finish of opponent

    vs New Cath 2-1-1 (09 - 4th / 10 - 4th / 11 - 2nd / 12 - 9th)

    vs Trinity 0-4 (09 - 1st/ 10 - 3rd/ 11 - 1st / 12 - 2nd)

    vs Calvary Christian 2-0 (09 - 4th/ DNP / 11 - DNP / 12 - 8th)

    vs Lex Cath 1-1-2 (09 - 4th/ 10 - 8th/ 11 - 9th / 12 - 10th)

    vs Villa 4-0 (09 - 6th/ 10 - 6th/ 11 - 9th/ 12 - 7th)

    vs St Patrick 1-0 (12 - 6th)

    vs Holy Cross 4-0 (09 - 7th/ 10 - 8th/ 11 - 6th / 12 - 10th)

    vs St X 0-3-1 (all #1's)

So "St. Henry tends to dominate among the parochial schools" may be a bit too strong. IMHO...."dominating" St Patrick, Villa, Calvary Xian and Holy Cross, (teams averaging finishing 6th or lower in their region) would not qualify as "dominating the Parochial Schools".....again....IMHO and according to the numbers.......

I hope this doesn't sound as if I'm diss-ing St Henry, because that isn't the case at all....I wish them the best of luck this season (until/if they play my Colonels)....just commenting on the dominance statement......

Yeah, dominate is probably a little strong, isn't it.

  7. "I know it was soccerama but 10th region big 2 knocked off 2 big boys in the 9th with Scott over St Henry and BB over CCH. "

Seriously? Didn't see the Scott / St H game, but St H hasn't been a "big boys" in the region for a few years.....on the boys side.......No disrespect intended......

BB played ok, but it was their 4th game counting Scrimmages and Blue Grass......CCH's first, and you could see the cobwebs being worked out. BB had a key injury that sat out, but CCH had 5. If thi was CCH's 5th game, I would be very disappointed in how they played....

Way too early to make those claims....... not even sure if you can call CCH a "Big Boy" this year......

St. Henry tends to dominate among the parochial schools and CCH has a larger pool of players from which to draw. JMO But I do agree that it is early in the season and the result could be very different if played later in the season.

  9. Report I got from this one:

Cov. Cath dominated possession, but Brossart had a really strong forward who gave Cov. Cath a lot of trouble when he did get the ball. Brossart defense and keeper were very good.

Very accurate assessment. I would agree with you.

  10. Brossart should have another good year in 2013-14.

While they lose a great player and play maker in Justin Saunders as well as their court general Ben Uebel they will return 4 players that got a lot of minutes and were huge contributors to the club.

    They graduate

22.9 points per game. They return 39.6.

They lose 193 rebounds, return 642

They lose 23 blocked shots, return 67.

They lose 129 steals, return 235

They lose 149 Assists, return 251

As mentioned earlier on this thread, Burns and Trentman will be a force down low. Rieger, if he continues to play with confidence, will pick up his scoring numbers and is already a lock down defender.

Jennings will become a household name for true basketball fans this year. While you won't read his name in the paper very often, he will be on every coaches radar next year. Handles the ball and is an extremely pesky defender. high motor on the young man and tough as nails.

The first 4 positions are proven players. The question mark is who fills that role as the 5th man. Austin Shannon is very athletic and can play a few positions. Ted MacDonald is a big strong kid that can hit the boards. Spencer Hackworth can shoot very well. Also look for Clay Kramer to log some minutes as well as Jon Zink and maybe even Justin Heil. All 6 of those kids played a ton of JV last year and the first 3 mentioned saw action in at least 24 varsity games last year.

Add to this that 5 of the boys are playing summer ball together, that should really help their chemistry for the upcoming season. The seniors next year won the Frosh 10th region with a 26-1 record. As Sophomores, they were 16-3. This team is used to winning.

They are lead by one of the best coaches and coaching staffs around. All of this should point to another good year for the Mustangs.

Good luck to the men in green.

Excellent assessment, TAC. You are spot on. Should be an exciting year to watch Mustang basketball. By the way, I love the stats.

  11. Stangs should be one of the top teams in the 10th, headlined by the Region's top frontcourt in Trentman & Burns. No one will be able to match them at the 4 & 5 spots...not in the 10th, at least. Trentman's versatility & athleticism make him a tough matchup, while Burns is your more traditional back-to-the-basket guy.

Losing Ben Uebel at the point will hurt, but from what I saw of Jake Jennings, he seems like he can be a suitable replacement. However, I didn't see anyone that could come close to replacing what Justin Saunders brought to the table.

I see a bunch of teams contending for the 10th & Brossart is among them. They are well-coached & return as much talent as anyone else.

I'm a big fan of the Jennings kid. Heck of a player, in my eyes. Strong, scrappy, and an incredible defender.

  12. That Alex Trentman dunk was classless. With 12 seconds left Scott stopped playing defense and he thought it was a perfect opportunity to score so he did. From my perspective it was selfish and classless.

I am all for not taking your foot off the gas and letting up but with under 20 seconds left in the game with that score. No reason for it. I really did like the way he played until then.

I'm sorry, but I have to disagree. :irked:
