  1. Then i guess Mayfield gets lucky cause they don't play till friday. :)

Nor do the Cards(fear Desales, that is).. We have faced many great teams over the years.. In the 70s, we played teams like Brentwood Academy, Memphis Douglas, E.St Louis, then in the 80s, we played some great Tilghman teams, Bellville, Ill, Blythville, Ar, in the 90s we played some great Hoptown teams, great Danville teams, Beechwood, Sikeston, Mo, Jackson, Mo, Dexter, Mo, Milan, Tn, Jackson Northside, Tn and many more.. It didn't slow down any in the 00s and 10s, so, to think they've never played a team like Desales before, like they are above and beyond anything we've ever seen, is really hilarious. While we respect your team and know it will be a tough, tough game, contrary to what you may believe, we've seen better and played better and while you Desales folks want to say we aren't scared, bring it, you ain't no Trinity or St X and no we aren't, but, neither are you and quit giving yourself credit for playing 4a all those years, when, it's been nearly 20 years since you met either of those teams in a real game, other than maybe a freshman or JV game. Not trying to start anything, but, you guys that keep on with that, "Mayfield has no idea what's about to hit them" theme, needs to just stop and do a little research on our history, otherwise, it makes you look foolish. We get it, ya'll are a great team, now, let's please just keep it at that, because the rest is of that nonsense is just babble with the brown tinted glasses slant and not reality..

  2. Mayfield has their fair share of over zealous fans, for sure, but, Desales fans certainly have no business calling them out, nor vice versa.. I love the confidence that both fan bases have.. That's the way it should be and both have every right to be confident. They've both set a pretty high standard and both teams have proven more than capable of playing with just about anyone in the state, with a few 6a and 5a team exceptions..

  3. I have seen both these teams the last 2 years at state.. IMO, last year, Desales was the better team.. The Colts had a great RB and a very stout D.. In 2013, I think Mayfield was the better team.. That team was fast on fast defensively and had a great passing attack in Guhy's sr year.. Deon Jackson was a game changer at WR and had 2 or 3 other big play receivers.. They weren't as strong at RB as some of the other teams, but, Mills was adequate and got the job done..

  4. If Desales and CALs defenses are both better than Mayfields, I'll have to see it.. Mayfield has the best quartet of linebackers they've ever had.. They pursue sideline to sideline as well as any I've seen, they all bring speed and they all lay the wood to you and rarely miss a tackle or get caught out of position.. OB Catholic is most likely the best offensive team in 2a and Mayfield held them to 13 points with 6 of those in the last minute when the game was out of reach and the Cards in a prevent where a DB lost his footing and fell down. Against the run, the Cards are excellent. The secondary has great speed and cover well. They are a little on the short side for DBs, but, they've held their own all year and unless Desales has multiple WRs with height, they should be fine. The 3 man front of Jackson, Hernandez and Mills have a ton of games under their belts, and they have decent size their at 240, 240 and 200.. They'll all get after the QB.. From what little I've seen of Desales, they're pretty generic offensively and while they have good size, don't have much speed.. IMO, that's not a good combination against Mayfield.. Unless they've got some secrets in that playbook that they've been hiding all year, I don't see them scoring a whole lot unless they turn the Mayfield offense over and get some short fields to work with.. Barring that the turnovers are fairly equal, I like Mayfields chances..

  5. These 2 teams were a mirror image of each other.. Lanny, Mayfields statistician, made that statement at halftime and he was right on with that statement.. Zuberer may have been a little better than Arnett and Bright may have been a little better than Gardner, but, they played very similar to each other. Both lines were undersized, but, hit hard and played with a lot of determination.

  6. I don't see how it can be anything but a defensive battle.. Desales don't give up many points, but, against some of the better teams on their schedule, they've struggled to get going offensively.. I like Mayfield's versatility on offense, but, they've also had a few games they had to grind it out against because of a lack of being able to run the ball very effectively.. If the Cards are to win this game, the OL will have to play it's best game of the year and the D will need to continue playing well and not being put in bad situations by the O.. I think it'll be a good game with minimal scoring.. Mayfield 17 Desales 10

  7. Well, we finally get that team that dresses 98 kids.. If I have heard that once, I've heard it 100 times.. Fortunately, only 11 at a time is allowed on the field and I really like the 11 that Mayfield puts out there, especially on the defensive side of the ball.. Desales is also a great defensive team.. I feel next weeks game will be very similar to this weeks.. Whichever team can make the fewest mistakes and capitalize on the other teams miscues, will win it.. Wouldn't be surprised to see a 7-3 type game..

  8. OB Catholic was a great team that presented a great challenge to the Cardinals.. The score really doesn't tell the story, as it was nip and tuck most of the way and only a 49 yard f/g giving Mayfield a 10 point lead and a little cushion late. Both teams scored late TDs that were really irrelevant.. Defense won this one for the Cardinals, coming up big, time and time again against a potent passing attack and solid RB. Very hard hitting game by both teams and neither wanting to give an inch.

  9. Well, I'm signing out of this thread.. Been fun, but, I think both sides have said about all they can say and it's getting about time to kick it off.. The Oboro Catholic folks are probably close to hitting the road down I24 and the Purchase Parkway to Mayberry.. Have a safe trip.. Come down to the west end zone before the game and join in on the tailgating with some good chow and drink aplenty..

  10. I think Mayfield fans are a little worried. I really do. You can't live on message boards all year and this be your biggest post. 11 pages guys. YOu all have not had 11 pages on a thread since Micah Jones days. That was back in 2003 area, right?

You must not have been paying attention the past few years during Beechwood week.. I'm going to miss those debates.. It'd get a little heated at times, but, for the most part, mutual respect for the other and some good, knowledgeable banter from both sides..

  11. Ahhhh. Living vicariously through another team. Well, you haven't faired much better against the Colts either. You guys should try scoring some against us. lol We aren't worried about Mayfield right now. We play our true rival tonight. Our hands are full at the moment.

Ain't that the truth, Coltpride!! We both got our hands full this week before we can worry with each other.. I imagine CAL and OB Cath relish the spoiler role, but, dang, they can both play some good football and beat that tail if you're not careful.

  12. Bright missing 4 games hurt his chances, Johnson doesn't have the stats to compete with Zuberer at QB and Smith, like Bright, didn't play in 2-3 games.. I agree with it being Zuberer out of those 4, but, there's probably some deservant kids not on that list... Who's Danville's top player? Who's CALs top player? What about Murray, LCA, SValley, Leslie Co, Lloyd.. Any of those teams have a standout player deserving mention?

  13. I fully respect Mayfield, but I respectfully disagree. And.....I don't want to make this thread about "what if" OHS and Mayfield played. They don't and this thread is about OCath and Mayfield.

And I knew some would .. It's ok to agree to disagree.. I have watched Owensboro play and while they have a pretty athletic team, I don't think they have the team speed that Mayfield does and I don't think they're near as balanced offensively.. I think OB Cath has better balance than Owensboro and is superior throwing the ball.. In the trenches is where the Devils have the advantage over the Aces..

  14. UK fball fan' date=' that was not meant to be a mean response, the internet is not the best means of communication sometimes.[/quote']

No problem.. It's all good.. It seems that the majority of the year in 2a it's been all about that Desales/Mayfield matchup.. It'd be kind of ironic if neither made it far enough to see it and there's a real chance it could happen.. Even if both teams play well, they could still come away disappointed..
