 No...just a group of overlooked kids and a THE GREATEST COACH EVER!
I don't know about "THE GREATEST COACH EVER", but a very good one indeed.
-
I held him to 46 in high school. We did win !
You beat a good team then...they had some good ball players while Phil was at Cawood. They should have won 2 regional titles while he was there. One was flat out taken. Phil was Vandy's all time leading scorer for some time and I think 3 time All SEC. Really good ball player.
I'll post mine without research - just off the top of my head AND from my viewing days. I'm 38, by the way.
Arkansas - Todd Day
Auburn - Barkley
Alabama - D. McKie
LSU - Chris Jackson
Ole Miss - Glass
Miss St. - Varnado
UT - Houston
Vandy - Phil Cox
Florida - Mike Miller
South Carolina - BJ McKie
Georgia - Wilkins
UK - Mashburn

I think the physicality of Harlan Co pushes them to a victory and they remain unbeaten heading in to the match-up with Bell Co.
-
Best I could come up with without really having to sit down and think about it. He did play for the Bulls and win a Championship.
I'll go Phil Cox

Garcia obviously has issues, but I think this story says much more about Spurrier and the University of South Carolina. The kid has been there for 5 years and been in trouble through most of it...now they decide he needs to go??? SMH, that is ridiculous.
-
We will see what happens as the season goes on and you get to see more and more of those silver bleachers during games because no one is sitting in them. Heck, come the end of November, Tennessee might have the home crowd.
While I agree it is bad right now, I live in TN and I don't think we have to worry about that. At 3-2 with a brutal stretch of games and their starting qb out, the UT fans are giving up on this season.
-
How did Joker run off Moss? I wish the kid had stayed, but let's be real...he chose to leave and not stay and compete for the job. I don't begrudge him for leaving, but let's not make him out to be the 2nd coming either. I was at the game yesterday and everyone was screaming for Smith to get some action...2 passes and 2 picks. Last year everyone was calling for Newton, gimme a break man. As bad as we are and as bad a job as the coaches are doing, they still are playing the right players.
-
Everyone, myself included are being too critical of this team!
Other than these insignificant facts ....... U.K. has no one that is SEC caliber talent, even less depth, can't run, pass, defend the run, defennd the pass, play or defend special teams.
^ Considering all of the facts abov the Cats are pretty dang good!
Summary: you can't make chicken salad ou of chicken (Cat) crap.
You don't think Josh Clemmons and Danny Trevathan are SEC caliber talent? If that is the case, you do not know football.
-
I too was at the game, and I haven't seen an offense play that poorly since UK vs Cincy in the 3-0 game. Horrible.
-
Davis needs to produce in a high school game before even talking about college offers.....very average so far vs. similar opponents the same size and with same skills!!!
I expected your post to be the 2nd one.

I love Prime Time, my fave all time player. If I had to go with best all time...I'm going LT. He couldn't be blocked. A maniac on the field.
-
I heard that for years, and it wouldn't surprise me one bit.
He showed a picture of his IROC on Twitter the other night, it said IROC. I too heard the IREX stuff too.
-
That's good stuff, FCT.
Makes me wish I could work for the NCAA just to see what all these schools do for the athletes. I'd be horrible though because I'd look the other way alot.
Except for North Carolina, Tennesse and Florida.
I'm fortunate to have become a good friend of his and he has stories for days...and loves to name drop! Haha. I agree 100 percent on who you wouldn't turn your head on. Kudos!

If you're not following King Rex on Twitter, do yourself a favor and do so asap. If you're not on Twitter, it's worth joining just so you can following Rex.
Me and him decided last night that we're going to find a way into the Craft Center for pickup games. I told him I can still shoot the 3-pointer and foul. He said he can still argue the crap out of the score. Sounds like a winning combo...And yes, he's a cool enough guy to actually interact with fans and he's about as funny as anyone I've talked to.
My favorite twitter follow - Coco excluded - and he seems to be about as cool as anyone out there.

Further supports my argument. Not even a top tier team and everything about gameday there was 10 times what it is in Lexington. I didn't go there specifically for the game, but I happened to make it to the tailgates and what not.
I think you missed my point. I saw nothing in Columbia on gameday, and I can assure you I tailgated with the who's who (and USC players after the game) of SC boosters and fans, that was more exciting than Lexington.
-
I learned a lot walking around tailgating in Columbia for the South Carolina/Navy game this weekend. The Kentucky football program just isn't appealing enough. The atmosphere, fans, support, TALENT, is so much better and more exciting at other schools, I'm not surprised at all how bad UK is. If I'm getting offers from Georgia, Bama, Florida, South Carolina, LSU etc., not a chance in the world I'm picking Kentucky. Everything about football just isn't as good in Lexington. They may have a decent team here and there, but there's no chance they ever become relevant year after year like a lot of SEC schools are simply because of talent and they won't ever pull in an epic recruiting class. I'm afraid they're stuck in mediocrity forever. Spending money won't change anything.
I'm not disputing what you are saying, but why South Carolina as the example? Granted, they won the East (UK beat them) last year and have the talent to do so this year (barely beat Navy). Two of my best friends are season ticket holders at SC and they would tell you in honest moments that they don't consider the Cocks to be a top tier team. I went to Columbia two years ago for the UK game and had a blast. I really didn't see it as that big of a difference than Lexington as far as the atmosphere though. Just my opinion.

He also went on to say, the first time he worked Rex out, with UL players when Rex was a frosh in HS he was holding his own. He also said Rex was shown a VERY good time on that trip.
-
Is it okay to admit that UK must have truly sweetened the deal for Rex to rebuke UL and come to UK?
I mean, he was at UK before Dwayne Casey was busted with the Emery envelope........
I had lunch with a former college coach that was close to the scene in those days and I have no reason not to believe the things he has told me as he is very well connected. He told me that Rex's parents never saw a thing during his recruitment...but his extended family was given many, many things. Not just from UK. He said he before that or after has never seen two schools shell out as much for a player as UL/UK did for Rex.
-
Thanks Clyde for posting this video...I'll watch this a few more times I'm sure. I forgot how sweet his leaner was. Kid could score in a variety of ways.

Rex has been my all-time favorite basketball player since I watched him light up Henry Clay in Memorial for 45 points. Rex brought something to the game that I hadn't seen before and even more than that, he brought something to pop culture in Kentucky. The above question about race is certainly a fair question. When Rex was coming up, I was in 7th and 8th grade and every boy on my team had the same hair cut and our coach took #3 off the team. It caused too much trouble. At least in my part of Eastern Kentucky that I grew up in, our school was all white and I do think that caused more mass appeal. Now, that doesn't mean that we didn't have tons of african american players at UK that we loved as we loved them all really. Rex was just different. I have a friend that played at UK during Rex's stay there and he says that what we see on Twitter is Rex being Rex. He says he was an amazing teammate and was hilarious non-stop. One of my favorite Rex twitter moments is when he said Reggie Hanson should be an 'Unforgettable' also.

Big maybe, I just doubt anyones ability to win at Notre Dame anymore with the academic standards and lack of a true local recruiting base. This isn't basketball where one or two recruits can turn your team around. Football you need 4 or 5 good national recruits and then another 10 to 15 solid local recruits you can count on your area producing yearly. Saban claims to recruit nationally, but look at his lists year in and year out he still gets a good chunk of his players from Alabama or from a state bordering Alabama.
I agree 100 percent. Toughest job in America to win big at. It isn't going to happen imo.

The Vols is our second division team, behind the Gamecocks/Bulldogs/Gators/Cats/Vols/Vandy
Not sure what you mean here. The Vols are behind all of those teams or the Vols are 5th in the East, only above Vandy?
-
I have Comcast and have Red Zone in my package and I LOVE it. This has been a great way to watch football when you live in TN and your games EVERY week are Titans and Falcons.
-
Didn't he want to go to a school where he could play QB also?
Yes, he wanted at least the opportunity and UK gave him that. UT, when they started recruiting him late in the process, would not offer him a shot at QB--luckily for UK.

Cawood's coach? What year was this? I don't remember that one...maybe it has slipped my mind.
