  1. The young offensive linemen head the list. This season rests on what they are doing right now in the weight room and running. They need to step up big time.

Well, on the offensive line, we know we have the returning center (Adams)and one of the tackles (Genal). Was Mathews hurt much of last year? I don't remember seeing him play much. Then you could possibly have Thoerner and Bragg slide in there somewhere. That could form a senior line. As far as the juniors, there is a list of them that could be worked in or even get a starting position doepending on how hard they are working now.

I think they are stong at wide out with junior Brennan and senior Smith. Running back should be Vocke and possibly Staten playing both ways as the fullback/linebacker. Others that could get carries could be Kremer and a few sophmores Erdman and Nussbaum. Is Crane coming back to play? He could carry too, I guess. Never have really seen him play. Personally, I think the QB position is open between the senior Colosimo and the junior Davis. Davis could get the edge if he does not play baseball and concentrate on football. Although, who knows, maybe they could move Larimore back to QB too.

Defense; I think they are set at linebacker with 2 juniors and a soph, Kremer and Staten; along with sophomore Max Nussbaum. defensive backs? who knows.....Vocke, Brennan, Smith, Studer....I am not sure about them. Defensive line will be intersting. If some of the Juniors step up on the offensive side, some of the seniors could play defensive line. Senior Jenal started on defensive tackle sometime. If some of the Juniors get bigger and stronger on defense, they could score starting spots. Juniors Bradley (nose), Cruse (end) and Evertt (end) played a lot last year; that leaves one or two tackle spots open for a bunch of other juniors to fight it out between Lawless, Verkamp, Brilz, Flannery...and who knows who else.

    Any other opinions?

  2. I'll be interested in how the staff shakes out or will it remain the same. Now that it is obvious that Wags isn't in their plans as a head coach, will he look at another school to become a head coach (Campbell)? Is Bob Schneider's son bitter at all? Will he want to walk away or become a bad apple because things aren't the way that daddy did it? Will the Allen boys still be allowed to be the ball boys? KIDDING!

  3. That is true and this same group of Highlands boys beat the Tigers last year with those 2 and the Smith twins who transferred back to Lloyd.

I also could have said the margin of victory in this game could have been 20+ very easily if the Birds starters played more than the 15 min they all played but I didn't.

For a small school the Tigers have a nice group of freshman with Nussbaum,Maus,Erdman and Mckenzie. They also had a couple 8th grade guards playing in White and Way who showed a lot of potential. They just lack the depth like most Class A schools who play the bigger schools. With that said they still should be very good over the next few years in their class.

I hear that Way is going to go t o Cov. Cath. as a Freshman. Anyone know anything about that?

  4. I would say with all of the sophomores getting all that experience this year at Beechwood and having Cory Crane and Zach Larimore back on the field for next year will make make Beechwood at the top of 1A.

I would not count on either of them. One wants to pursue baseball and the other has a terrible injury.

  5. In my opinion, I feel it will be a little like this season trying to find what kid at what position works best. I think you are probably correct with these kids at the positions you already have listed. As far as Davis or Colosimo, I think it will be Colosimo. He has paid his dues with two years of JV. Not to take any thing away from Davis, but that is my opinion of the situation. I think that the Freshman Gage Erdman, will probably have a starting role somewhere, just not sure where. There are going to be alot of current Sophmores that are going to be tested at the O and D lines that had pretty good growth spurts this year, as the same for wide recievers, and the D-backs. As someone stated in another thread, there may be enough O and D linemen to go one way. My biggest hope is that Zac Larimore will come back healthy if at all.

I am afraid that with Colisimo playing baseball all summer long and Davis being at football, that may put Davis in the lead when the season starts. Davis has a nice touch; Colisimo has a stronger arm. I guess time will tell.

  6. Well, Highlands started a thread. We don't want to be left out.

How will Beechwood look in 2010? Will it be Davis or Colosimo at QB? I would say Vocke will be the feature back. Adams has been the center for the last 2 years, I would say he is a lock there. Who else on the line?

Defense will have Staten at Middle linebacker, I would guess at this point the other two will be max nussbaum and jake kremer. What about the rest of the defense?

There are a lot of juniors to fill spots...VOA....lets hear your voice!

  7. It amazes me how some people on here are such sticklers, I mean let's call this like it is. The coaches deserve a day off to network and spend a day amongst their statewide co-workers and go to the coaches clinic, schedule games, talk football, etc.

Some people on here act as if they are the Super of the schools and hold the budget in their hands. Why do people even want to argue about this, instead of just saying of course they deserve to go the climatic end of the their season and why bring math/science teachers into this anyway, if people want to pretend they don't go to seminars, etc and subs are called in then they are kidding themselves.

I disagree! No one gets paid to go watch a football game. I doubt that the coaches that are not teachers get a paid day off from their companies to go to the game just because they are football coaches.

If they want to use a personal day, sobeit. If they don't, go on Saturday and network and spend a day amongst their statewide co-workers. I don't think that anyone can compare a football game to a seminar. Schools are built to educate. I believe education first!

  8. What about the Tennessee team Mayfield beat? Trousadale County, the defending 2A state champ and its only loss this season is to Mayfield.

I got the numbers from the KHSAA, of course the Tenn. team is not included. DISCLAIMER: these numbers are not official numbers....just from some fat guy in NKY!

  9. From reading some of the posts on here it seems Mayfield may be unbeatable. They average 260 across the front and are one of the fastest teams in the state. Their oline is bigger than some of the states NAIA schools...

Slow day at work today so I came up with some other stats. These may or may not mean anything to anyone.....just numbers.

    Combined record or Mayfield opponents 37-66 ( i did not count the teams they played twice, tx). Mayfield has played 2 6A schools, 1 4A, 1 3A, 1 2A and 6 1A.

Combined record of Beechwood opponents 70-74 ( again, i did not count the teams they played twice 2x). Beechwood played 3 5A schools, 2 2A schools, and 7 1A schools.

What does it all mean? Who knows......like I said, it's just numbers.....

  10. If you are scared of getting hurt on a footbal field, be it a player, coach, official, or media person you should not go out there. Football is a violent game and anyone scared does not belong on the field.

    WHAT? You are silly!

The players are playing the game and are use to the contact. The coaches are watching the game and see things coming. An official is watching their keys, looking for penalities and side steping down the field. If they happen to get blind sided by someone (coach, cameraman, water boy) on the sidelines and they don't see it coming has nothing to do with being scared.

  11. I say the official should be banned from football and have to ref soccer games. Where he can be nice and safe. Besides he isn't very good at football. Besides a good official would have said coach back them up on the 3rd play not thrown a flag. This guy is scared, in 2 games he did that I have seen he has called 3 sideline warnings. In 18 other games I have seen this year I have seen 1 other sideline warning. He should focus on the field and not the sideline because a blocker could tackle someone in front of him and he wouldn't call it.

How do you know he didn't say 'back them up'? I'm better he said it more than once.

  12. It's always funny to listen to some of the comments defending the refs and talking about how perfect some sdelines are run until something like this happens to their team. Then all of sudden they aren't in such a hurry to put the ref under their wing.

Should we defend the officials for taking the touchdown off the board also. Another huge blunder on top of "the call". The crew was weak at best and seemed very confused all night.

I am not saying defend the ref. I am saying take responsibility. Dixie was warned and apparently did nothing about it. They paid the price.
