  1. Think I might stop down for a few minutes myself to see this one, as it should be an interesting battle. NCC's first game (and apparently the only one against Bellevue this season per the khsaa website?), so I assume Conner gets the start. If so, you'd probably have to make NCC the favorite, but it should be a great game.

An important game indeed but Connor just got out of basketball and probably not ready to throw just yet.

  2. Proof on mound: No-hitter vs. Atherton. True, not stiffest of competition, but still, as a sophomore thats incredibly impressive. Nate Rawe is a more reliable infielder right now, but I think Shaun will immediately prove to be a better hitter.

With Chris Grosser (and to be exact it was shoulder surgery) not pitching, I doubt the rotation will have regional championship depth. But I could be wrong. Between Jeramie Connor and Shaun Meyer and whatever new faces show themselves as great pitchers, Breds might make a legitimate run again.

Your competition comment is why he needs to prove himself and remember I think he will. Nate Rawe will hit better but Shaun will still hit and be fine. NCC will as you said have depth.

  3. The new name to remember at NCC is Shaun Meyer........he will be an excellent P/inf and is probably their best SS but may be reassigned to allow someone to hold it full-time (because he pitches) Shaun is a nice hitter and will be a solid two on the mound behind Conner. Another slick inf. to watch is Nate Siebert....nice hands, good glove, still developing as a hitter.

Shaun is an excellent athlete but is not a better SS than Nate Rawe nor can he hit with him. Shaun still needs to prove himself on the mound at the varsity level which I'm sure he will. Again he's an asset to the team but to say he can hold SS down.....not yet but next year probably. Nate Rawe is just to solid and NCC needs his leadership along with Connor to have a chance to repeat last years accomplishments.

  4. I know Holmes has the reputation of "running and gunning" but that simply is not what they do. They win with defense and have the best D Holmes has put on the floor in quite a while.

I was sitting by a 10th region guy tonite who thought it would be high scoring. I told him we wouldn't see 50 by either team. I didn't realize how bad my prediction would be.

I'm not talking about running and gunning Holmes doesn't attack the basket at all. Yes they defend but if you don't score you don't win!

  5. I did get that feeling that Ricardo could have just taken over when he wanted to. I don't know if Henley is waiting on using some better schemes and pressing until the Regional Finals or the State Tourny, but it seems that he still has the chain on this team.

I feel like they could just bust out at any minute and dominate a game by 20 or so, but they haven't done that in quite some time. Even before the last Boone game that wasn't the case.

The defense has improved, but its not where it was at this time last year due to the loss of "the erasor".

you are sooooo correct on that comment! At any time those guys could explode on a team. They look like they stop attacking the rim and go thru the motions and then BOOM.....off they go!

  6. I have an unbiased look at the call. No way that should have been intentional. It was a hustle a play by the NCC players. Pittman was slowing up on the play because the outlet pass wasn't thrown far enough in front of him. Once he slowed up coming back to the ball it allowed the "full speed" NCC guys to collide with Pittman as he finally gathered the ball and tried to go up and dunk it.

No way that it was intentional. I don't think Pittman ever thought it was intentional. It was bad timing and switched the momentum some, but I don't think it was the reason that Holmes won today......

Also why doesn't Holmes press? No way NCC could have handled a full court press of the bulldogs.

Got to agree on the press comment. Thought NCC would have tried setting screens to get Connor open instead just that flare out top? NCC inside guys fought hard tonight. Holmes is just better.

  7. If Holmes plays like they did tonight NCC will win. Pangallo plays hard and goes to the rim then dishes Ryles guards looked really scared and didn't attack. The NCC big guys need to contain Holmes and keep them from getting 2nd looks and somebody needs to help Connor 3 of 6 from the trey tonight with someone in his grill everyshot 2 misses he went to the line! Meyer will be the difference for NCC he's the sleeper that can beat ya!!!
