  1. Read the rule book. The batter, by his actions, cannot cause a balk. This is a text book example of a do-over...yes, a do-over. It is nothing. If deemed an intentional action to try and get the pitcher to stop his motion to the plate, it can be an ejectible offense. I'll get the rule number when I get a second to look it up.

I understand and agree and certainly challenging a rule. The hitter simply put up his right hand requested time and the pitcher stopped his delivery this is a judgement call and it's my opinion that the umpire should have called a balk. The hitter stayed in the box and made no unsportsmanlike moves.

  2. From where I was standing, which was right behind the plate, the pitch was on the outside corner. I remember being amazed that a 16 year old young man could have the strength and bat speed to hit a fastball on the outside black, out of the park in left field. In fact, it was more toward left-center than anything. What a true talent! I really enjoyed watching him play. The play he made at SS was ignorant! It's a shame Bellevue and Newcath had to play in the first round. I would like to have seen Bellevue in the Regional Tournament.

Congrats to Bellevue on a great season, and continued success to Newcath.

Agree on the play at short it was sick!!!!! HR was a blast indeed. Bellevue does deserve to be in the regional tourney. Don't understand the seeding vs drawiing situation. It hurt Bellevue for sure. If the tigers are on the other bracket they play Monday(IMO)!

  3. Why did it have to be a bad pitch? The kid is more than capable of hitting any pitch out of about anywhere. Paper said 6 hitter, actually it was 8 and there were three earned runs.

A 3-1 fastball down the middle of the plate waist high is a "bad pitch" especially to a good hitter. The hits and errors......I guess it comes down to who's keepong the official book. Solid performance by Jones and Connor.

  4. From the KHSAA web site I looked at the 36th district play only and found:

Bellevue beat NewCath by a score of 7-6 in the first round of the 36th District tournament in 2001.

In this years match up, I don't think the Bellevue hitters will be able to hit Conner except for Jones, and if I were the NCC coaches anytime Jones came to the plate whether runners were on or not, I would just point to first base and issue Jones a IW.

I don't think that Connor would purposley put Jones on. If I remember in last years regional finals he wouldn't walk Mailie! Connor a competitive spirit and appears to be able to out smart most hitters. Interesting match up indeed but I'll take Connor. The Breds have been hitting the heck out of the ball as well the 2 Kelly's have been quit distructive at the plate as of late!

  5. After last nights games I believe the two front runners now for POY are Connor- NewCath and Isler- CovCath. Here are their stats before last nights game in which Conner throws his second no-hitter against Simon Kenton and Isler throws a 2 hit shutout against Beechwood with 12k's. Along with being dominate pitchers they both have some impressive hitting stats and have played their field positions very well. When looking at POY you have to keep in mind that a major part of this award is based on being the most-valuable player for your team, which clearly these two are. Without these players on their teams, NewCath or CovCath, are not where they are at currently. So once again here are the stats before last nights games.

    great post!

    Your comments make good sense.

  6. I'm not just saying for POY, I'm saying other awards as well. Hunter Jones has a great glove, and so does Luke Maile. Luckily for them, they also hit extremely well. I think if Maile and Jones were not known for hitting, they'd be known for their defense. My point is so much emphasis is put on hitting. What do you think?

I understand and agree with what "I think" you're saying. Which is why i like Connor. He not only has a fantastic glove, he can run well, hits well and then is one of top pitcher's in the area. I like the guys for these type of awards that just do a little more.

  7. This is fun!!!!! What is the criteria for POY? Yes Maile hits well and is a good catcher. Isler, Smith are great pitchers and hitting well, I like Connor because he's tops in alot of catagories which IMO is more of a "complete" player. Jones yes is a very good player as well. A solid case can be made for all I just hope it's not a popularity contest, there are several deserving players

  8. You are joking correct?

I agree with you Great Game this is from Queencityhigh.com back in April!

"Connor is among the statistical leaders in just about every offensive category, but it's his batting average that is truly amazing. Connor is hitting an astounding .700"

ESPNrise magazine has him listed as the #1 - 2nd baseman in Greater Cin.

I still like Mailie as the best hitter and catcher of course. Connor just has more to add being a leader as a pitcher/inf/hitter.
