  1. I witnesed the AAU state as well as the middle school state tourney. Yes, I stood in amazement as I saw kids trying to dunk the ball, or drain 3's from anywhere on the court. My child could not believe the size of these kids that are his age or near his age. I have no doubt all of these kids are legit 7th graders or grade exemptions. What I did see, were a lot of very mature kids that may be wearing the same shoe size they wear now for the rest of their lives. While some will go on to be outstanding players in highschool, many will fade into intramural leagues when they find out other kids have caught up to them and passed them by. We should all look back to the stars of this tourney in about 5 years and see how many are stars in highschool. Then we should look at the other smaller, non developed kids that were beat by 30 this past weekend and see how many of those kids became better players since they played against some of the best at this age this weekend, then look to see their names on the all region team. I think there will be a few broken hearts and a lot of suprises. Hopefully I'll see you all in 2014.

  2. Here are my predictions.

    Pool 1 - NKY Wolfpack

Pool 2 - CKY Tigers (I do not know any of these teams very well)

    Pool 3 - KY Elite

    Pool 4 - Derek Smith All-Stars

    Pool 5 - Legends

I know it is a blind draw but it is unfortunate that the two best teams will face off in the quarters. My pick overall is KY Elite. They will have a tough run of games on Sunday by beating DS, Wolfpack and Legends.

Do only the top 4 teams qualify for Nationals?

Nice picks Afi100guy. Can you pick my NCAA brackets for me next year?? :thumb: you got all 5 predictions correct! :notworthy::notworthy::notworthy:

  3.

Does anyone know if the Pasquales down there is the same as the Pasquales I remember from the old days? Our old Pasquales had the best hoagie bun in the world. Havent had a hoagie like that in years.

I think Paul Fessler, son of the original owner, is back running the joint. He left and went to become a chef and than went back to his roots. Sooooo good!

  4. I would also like to congratulate the KY. Elite on a great tournament, a very solid team. However, IMO there were only 3 teams that stood out; KY. Elite, DS, and the Legends. There is no way you can put the Wolfpack in the same sentence with those teams. I don't think the Wolfpack would have shredded their pool had they not been moved out of the Legends pool at the last hour. The Wolfpack got moved to a very weak pool, and were never tested until they lost to the Elite. BTW, the three teams that stood out should have all played in D1. Great weekend of hoops!

I agree there were only 3 teams that stood out. The Elite, DS All Stars and the Legends. I'm glad the Elite had to beat both of the other top 2 teams in bringing home the hardware. This left no question that they were the class of the tournament. Good luck in the Nationals.

  5. But the only 2 teams that signed up for D1 are haveing to play each other in to early. What they should have done is to make sure both of them have the chance to meet in the final! It only make since that way! The KBA is a great place for the State Championships but this pairing is not right or fair to the 2 teams that signed up for D1 state. But anyway I hope all the teams from all over the state play well and have fun!

If only 2 teams signed up to play D1, they should automatically qualify for the next level of D1. It should not penalize a D2 team that could qualify for the nationals had the teams been placed in the proper level. Most D2 teams in this tourney wouldn't have a chance to finish that well in Nationals and I agree the best should represent the great state of KY. basketball, but the experience is what is the best for these kids to get them ready for the next level. I'm sure there are several teams playing this weekend that do not expect to win this tourney, but the coaches are letting the kids see the talent level out there and see what it takes to make them a better player for the future.

  6. Well I enjoy going to the KBA, I think that they do a great job, but this time they screwed this tournament up! If the DS Allstars and the Ky Elite are on the only teams that signed up for D1 why are they on the same side? If anything the top 4 teams(DS allstars, Leagands, Ky Elite and NKY Wolfpack) should be seeded so the BEST teams rep the state in nationals!!! Thats why they have seeding!!!

I disagree, no way you can seed teams from all over the state that have not played each other. There are just too many teams with new players or unknowns that may not play ever weekend to be seen and ranked.

See Afi100guy's comments regarding pool 2 where no one knows about these teams?

  7. The 'Swing Parish' is loaded with talent right now and most of the girls IMO are locks to go to the school on the hill regardless of who coaches at BBHS. And there are a couple that will be Mustangs regardless. Most have older siblings, deep roots or other reasons to attend either school. Keep in mind that swing school also sends kids to 6 or 7 different highschools almost every year. In the past I think that the coach or the program made a huge difference as to where the girls attended, but that is just not the case for the next 2 years.

The southern schools compete mostly against CCHS with one or two going to NCC. The St. Mary 7th grade team won the Diocese tournament this year and I'm guessing most will go to BBHS. Leaving the new coach with a good base for building a good program.

  8. Thanks for the info!

There is a lot of talent in the 7th grade level. High School games should be a lot of fun to watch the next few years. It is good to see a lot of the kids working on the game playing AAU. I agree it is a shame only 18 teams heading to Lexington this weekend. Keenland is even running!!

  9. Ky Elite's more notable players are:

    Jackson Davis

    Dylan Portwood

    Jordan Green

    Trey Grundy

    Shane Hall

DS All-Stars more notable players are:

    Brandon Hatton

    Zach McNeil

    Zach McCormick

Thanks! I'm not familiar with the Elite Players. Those studs from Walton on the DS All-Stars can sure play.

  10. Not sure I would actually eat anything I caught in the mighty mighty Ohio River.

I used to think the same thing till someone took me boating last year. You could actually get into the river and see your feet. this was up past Dayton, Ky. It was cleaner than Cumberland!!

I was shocked to say the least. The locals have done a good job cleaning up the river.

  11. Bo Menefee did an outstanding while out at Campbell County coaching the 8th graders the past few years. I did not get a chance to see him as a JV coach, but I think he would do an wonderful job in Tiger country. As for coach Butler, I'd ask some Highlands 7th grade parents what they think.

  12. Sure that outstanding football complex that NCC has, makes all the difference in the world.:isurrender:

Too bad the Bishop of Covington didn't give NCC all that money like they gave to CovCath, to build them a football field.:sssh::rolleyes:

    QUOTE]

NCC may be getting some of the wealth that the Bishop throws around  They have plans for a football field up on the hill. It is the 3rd phase of the $17Mil project they are currently working on. There will be some great improvements to the school on the hill. They will be getting a second gym too. So it looks like they are focusing on both football and basketball. It's time for another basketball 3 peat like they did in the 70's. :ylsuper:

  13. She paid an awful lot for the total experience didn't she.

In all seriousness, it's laughable to think the money she paid should be refunded to her if she can't go. It's CovCath's fault she has a thing for teenage boys. She made the decision and needs to accept responsibility for what she did. She has been told she can't come and she needs to understand it's her actions that are the reason for this decision and let it be. She's brought enough to this class as far as controversy and turmoil, let them enjoy their graduation day. As someone said, hopefully Alex will go on to graduate from college and she can attend that one.

Oscar, your words are perfect!!!! I'm not a big fan of the Bishop, but I think they made the right choice on this one. You have to feel bad for the son, he is the one being punished for a poor decision made by his mother.
