  1. Why can we not have a post about the 8th region or the 8th region CHAMPS, Anderson County, without it turning into how great Carroll Co is? You want to talk about how great Carroll County is instead of the 8th region CHAMPS, Anderson County? OK, lets talk about that great game they played against Shelby Co the other night(a team Anderson has beat 3 times this season).

Start a 2010 Carroll County thread if thats what you want to talk about. Were talking about Anderson County's back to back regional championships in this one. Congrats Bearcats!!!:notworthy:

  2. Not taking anything away from Anderson but I think going in they were favorites to win the region along with Shelby. Both teams had players mentioned for best possible player in the region as well. So if you look at that they are doing what they are supposed to do basically meeting expectaions. Again not taking anything away from either team, I truly feel they are the teams to beat in the Regional tourney. If you look at what CC has done this year regardless of who they have played its remarkable. CC is currently undefeated in the region and has won the All A region, the NCKC tournament and is one game from a district championship. If a coach cannot win coach of the year after rebuilding this team the way he has it would be a disappointment. However at the end of the day its really just great to see Carroll County playing the way they are capable of playing.

16 of Anderson's wins have come against teams with winning records. They've also beaten 3 teams with 20 wins or more during the regular season. Several of those teams will reach the 20 win status when they go to post season. Carroll has beaten only two teams with winning records (Gallatin and Ludlow). I'm not saying that to bash on them because I know Coach Jones has done great things and they have improved a lot. However, Anderson has played the toughest schedule of anyone in the 8th region and have represented themselves very well. They had nice wins over Franklin County, Madisonville-North Hopkins, and Danville who all have won 20 or more games. Then they have also beaten Dunbar, Beechwood, Boyle, Boyd, and Mercer which are all good programs. I just don't see how Coach Barnes could be denied coach of the year with that body of work he has put together this season.

  3. Jay Jones has done a great job. However, my vote would go to LW Barnes of Anderson County. Anderson County is 21-10 with wins over several ranked teams. Anderson's schedule is also very tough, they have played a lot of teams that are ranked or are power houses in thier regions. Carroll has done well but if you look at thier schedule you will see they are not playing the caliber of competition that Anderson County is.

  4. I finally saw Bourbon County yesterday and they are 23-2 which is an outstanding record, but Pendleton County helped them out early with some poor defense and spotted them an early 7-0 lead and lost 8-0. Looking at Bourbon County's schedule I am still not convinced that they are a top 25 team.

I agree with Hilltopper, Bourbon may be a good team but thier schedule is weak to say the least. Anderson County fell out of the top 25 is hard to believe as well. In the last couple of weeks they have beaten Dunbar, Franklin, and a 20 win Danville team. Thier only loss was at Mercer on a walk off Homerun. I don't understand why they fell out.

  5. I guess what I was saying is that you don't see the powerhouse programs running scores up on lesser competition like that, so why does Anderson County? They are not that good, believe me! Do you see any of PRP scores 35-2 or 59-1 or whatever? Nope! Nor LCA, Lex Cath, Tates Creek, Cov Cath, Trinity, St. X, Apollo, Eastern, Harrison County, etc. The good programs don't do that to weaker competition.

LCA has beaten teams 28-0 and 23-3, Trinity has beaten teams 16-0, Apollo has beaten teams 17-0, and all of them have mercy ruled teams consistently throughout the season. So yes they do beat up on weaker competition. So hiltopper answer me this, what do you do when your oponent drops pop ups, throws the ball out of play when you purposely get too big of a lead, and throws the ball 15 feet over the batters head and yet the batter swings but it isn't called a strike because the umpire was watching the ball go so high he didn't see the swing?

Anderson could've bunted every batter and still mercy ruled those teams because they played that bad. Had AC tried to run up the score, they would still be playing.

  6. One thing that can be done is get a little bigger lead and get picked off. I do not know the whole situation, but I have seen this happen. It is a hard thing to do. The kids that do not start want to play hard and do good in the chance that they get. JMO

Tried that against Eminence and they turned and threw the ball out of play.

  7. Yeah they are never State contenders, yet when they get the chance to humiliate a team they do it.

Anderson County has won 3 regional titles since 2000. They won the region in 08 and were beaten by PRP (the eventual state champs). This year they are in the top 25 and have beaten several teams that are ranked so they are definately a good team.

As far as humiliating teams go, Eminence is just not able to compete. Anderson emptied thier bench vs Eminence, held the runners to one base at a time, and told the batters to swing at anything. Unfortunately they have to play each other because they are in the same district. Eminence has lost the majority of its games in 5 innings when the mercy rule kicks in.

As for Bell, I don't know anything about them. However, AC emptied the bench and held the runners to one base. What would you have the coach do?

Don't say things about a team that you know nothing about and obviously you don't know much about Anderson County.

  8. It is hard to rank teams considering a team is at thier best when thier ace is on the hill. An unranked team might be the best in the state if they have a shut down pitcher on the mound. It is nice to see your team getting ranked but if a team is down to thier 4 or 5 pitcher, the odds of them losing to an unranked team with thier ace on the hill is pretty good.

  9. Help me help you. Are you taking clients, Jerry?:D

Just joking, Curtis is a pretty good coach. Sometimes it's all about connections and interview skills. Best of luck to him.

That is my point. It is about connections, it isn't always about how good of a coach you are. I met Coach Cotton in 2002 after moving to Lexington and began following the area's high school football and it seems he has done well every where he has been.

My degree is in Business Administration, maybe I should go back to school and get a law degree and become an agent. I would make a lot more money than i do now.

  10. Congrats Coach Carrol... FastFightFinish has really talked him up and working for Rains you know he understands and has picked up on how to take a program and turn it into a consistent winner. Maybe Harrison now has a coach that is interested in sticking around.

What kind of offensive background does Coach Carrol have? Belfry is smashmouth, LCA was spread.

  11. If I was a principal or AD in Central KY and I had an open coaching position I would definitely look to hire Curtis Cotton. Coach Cotton is currently the Offensive Coordinator at Lexington Christian Academy. He has been an intregal part of LCA becoming an explosive, high octane offense. He is a 16 year coaching veteran and has a wide array of coaching experience. Coach Cotton has been an OC and DC at Henry Clay High School in Lexington. As DC he gave up under 13 points per game in 2006 helping to lead HC to the semi finals. In 2004 as the OC he implemented the spread offense and helped begin what has continued to be an offensive machine at Henry Clay. During 2005 he worked as an assistant at Georgetown College coaching TE and assisiting with the OL while completing his Masters in Special Education. Coach Cotton has coached at Rockcastle, Whitley County, Henry Clay, Georgetown College, and Lexington Christian Academy. If you know anything about the head coaches at those schools then you know he has been groomed by some of the most knowlegeable and highest character coaches in the state. He has multiple playoff wins as an assistant including 2 appearances in the state finals. (Henry Clay in 95, and LCA in 07). He has been a Head Coach for Freshman and JV teams along the way as well as weight room coordinator.

I don't know if principals or AD's read this site, but this guy just needs to be given a shot. He has the pedigree, the experience, and the character to build a program in the right way.

  12. Why fix what isn't broken. I think he is the Associate Head Coach right now and assists in many of the duties of the head coach. I know the defense is his baby and Mueller basically leaves him alone on that side of the ball. He is a Bluebird through and through and would continue the success. Although if they didn't give it to him they would have applicants lined up all the way across the bridge to Cincy.

  13. Let me say a word about Webster. I had a good friend who applied for the job. He went and visited with the administration, toured the school, and then returned for a second visit. The weightroom is a cracker box in a dingy dark room under the bleachers in the gym. They have equipment that had to be made by a former assistants friend. The practice field is about 600 yards away from the school across a highway, and the game field is up on a hill. So the three things the football team needs is in 3 different locations. There is a football field house shell. I say shell because construction began on it around 2003 and it is not complete yet and probably never will be. The administration seems supportive but cannot get any help from the Superintendent's office. Getting the board to hire assistants is hard and the pay is terrible. The program must raise money for their own transportation, so any fundraisors go to pay for buses not for new equipment or stuff for the players. I have heard rumors that the board may make the teams start paying a % of the electric bill for using the field lights for practices and games. From what i have heard Webster might be the worst situation in the state. The feeder system is in disarray. They used to have a team for each elementary school, but now they only have one team in the entire county. Instead of building numbers and getting kids out they are limiting themselves with 1 team. I give Coach Kettler applause for standing up and trying to take this thing and move it in the right direction, but I fear Urban Meyer or Pete Carol would struggle at Webster. If things don't change rumors of them shutting down the program my come true. Needless to say my buddy withdrew his name because he wasn't willing to risk his career at a place like that.

  14. Not much love for teams east of I-75. No Harrison County, Greenup County, etc.

In Region 10, Harrison is 14-5 and has won 4 straight, Clark County is 15-5 and is 6-1 in its last 7 games, and Bourbon County is 16-1.

In Region 16, Greenup County has won 9 straight, including all 3 of its LIT matchups.

Region 13 has several teams with gaudy records. Maybe they don't venture out of SE KY enough to catch the eye of the voters.

Have you looked at Bourbon's schedule? To say it is weak would be an understatement.
