  1. The smart bet IMO is on Rowan County. They seem to be throwing a monkey wrench into everyone's plans up there in that district. That Rowan coach seems to have his teams act together and playing hard. It will be interesting to see what falls out of this matchup for the two teams that travel up from the south to play them in the playoffs.

  2. My mother's people come out of Greenup County and she used to tell me about the rivalries up there. (McKell, South Shore, Greenup etc...) I was just wondering, (without bothering to call her up and ask her) how many high schools are there in Greenup County now? I know Raceland is in the county on the Boyd County side. (My grandmother used to teach there) Of course, there is Greenup County High, (My great aunt used to teach there) but, is Russell in Greenup County or Boyd County? Where exactly is Rose Hill? I was thinking there was another high school on the Ohio River going to Ashland U.S. 23. I was just wondering out of curiosity. Thanks ahead for the response!

  3. It's a terrible shame what has happened to that boy. I've seen what you all from McCreary County have been saying about him on here and I had not had the chance to see him until Rockcastle played them last week. The extra points conversion that he threw across his body to the other side of the field and completed impressed me as much as anything he did that night. It was like a shortstop in baseball throwing to first! That boy is the real deal and one heck of an athlete. He'll be a D1 player in my opinion if he decides to go to college and play football but I've heard more about his baseball than his basketball or football at Rockcastle. They say he is a tough cat to clean up after. Good luck with the recooperation and we at the Rock will be rooting and praying for his return to sports, especially by playoff time.

  4. It was the same group of guys that played both games. One person came back from a slight injury, but other than that it was pretty much the same group that played Pulaski. The group as a whole just seem to have gotten their act together. I asked the coaches and they attribute it to a change of diet for a pregame meal. They have switched from ham or turkey on cheese sandwiches to Kentucky round meat sandwiches (bologna). It has now become the winning tradition for the team to eat bologna sandwiches before the games after they practice. Also as I've noted before, the freshmen team are playing really well and have yet to be beaten (they've been eating bologna all along). Maybe the attitude of this group of freshmen (as well as their eating habits) has started to rub off on their older peers.

  5. Rock looked pretty tough after the first two defensive series and the offense looked exceptionally good...smashmouth style. A few things are beginning to click for the JV. Played subs during the 4th quarter and the subs showed some Rock pride as well. This was all after practicing before the game as I'm sure most JV teams have to do. Congrats boys and good luck in the JV playoffs if you qualify! :thumb:

  6. We take the boy (depends on which one because I have a 7th grader who plays 7th and 8th and a freshman who plays varsity and JV) two Arby's Roast Beef sandwiches because they set on the stomach well. Then we (my wife or I) try to stake out a spot (we have a special spot at home games) to watch the game where he (either of them) will know where to look for us. We usually have snacks and drinks with us in a cooler where we sit.

  7. So much for Berea thinking they were good.

I'm glad for Berea. That team hasn't had much to be excited about for a long time. I hear the coach there is really into his players. He has them sitting front row in class, always available with an ear, keeping up with their lives and grades. There are not too many coaches that care enough to actually be part of the kid's lives. Congrats Berea on a succesful hiring of a good coach. I think that if he stays and continues his good work, you WILL be successful. Continuation with coaching rather than changing coaches every two or three years is very important in developing a program. Look at Kentucky and Coach Brooks for an example. Berea needs to support and hold on to Kenan. Good luck Coach McWhorter with the rest of the season. I think you can have a winning season if you keep up the hard work. That is the first step to starting something big. :thumb:

  8. Coach Parkey called off the dogs early in the second half and allowed several JV and freshman players playing time. The entire fourth quarter was JV offense and mostly JV defense. One Lincoln score was around the end against the JV and the other was an interception returned for a touchdown against the varsity. Coach showed some class by not padding stats. Congrats to the Rock!
