I expect the Falcons to score at will as long as the starters are in. When Coach invokes the Berner mercy rule, I expect two or three more scores by the reserves and JV.
As far as Hancock scoring - maybe once against our reserves.
Falcons 56
Hancock 7

Scribe, Who will score more points tonight Ft. Campbell or Lone Oak? Lone Oak has 28 pts with 2:54 left in the 1st quarter. Its a shame Lone Oak & Ft. Campbell don't play one another.
I couldn't agree more!! I was posting the same comment early in the week. It would be the Marquee match-up in Western Kentucky for any season. Could you imagine how exciting the game would be whether it was last year, this year, next, etc.. ???

I thought Coach Berner had a great answer on the radio pregame show when asked about why they should keep playing Fort Knox despite the fact the last six games have been something like 302-12 in favor of Fort Campbell. Something to the effect of "with everything that's going on with the families of these players, it's a special game" and gives the players some bragging rights. It was a great answer.
Coach Berner is all class, no matter the opponent or outcome. He is a tremendous role model for all the kids at Ft. Campbell, not just his players.

Great game Rockets!! It sounds like everything is clicking for the little team from Marion. I hope they keep getting better each week.

I'd like to see a Fort Knox/Reidland game to determine who gets the 32nd and final playoff spot in Class 2A.
Now that would at least be a competetive game! I don't know if anybody would attend except for some very loving family members.

Tilghman is better than their record shows, they have some of the same junk going on that has plagued this Mayfield team. We (Mayfield) were just fortunate enough to come out with the win. The new offense is working, not sure why we went away from it in the Crittenden game, but it was there for at least the first half of this game. Our defense laid off in the third quarter but came up with the big stops when we needed em, the big 2 point conversion stop was HUGE for us. The game lived up to its expectation and hype. I believe that this Tilghman team will turn the season around just like they did last year.
I believe Tilghman is better then their game performance, don't know why the coach can't get them to realize their potential. I however, do not believe they are going to get it going this season - the calendar is starting to run out of days for them. Glad to hear Mayfield is maybe back on track. We really need a good representative from the west in the 1A playoffs. Maybe Mayfield - Maybe Crittenden County??

Major substitutions started mid-way thru the second quarter. Coach Berner wasn't trying to run-up the score, but the only way this one would have been close would have been to start the JV squad. The score would maybe have been 35-0, instead of 70-0. As I made the long drive back home, I thought about all the teams and games I have watched over the years. I concluded that this years Ft. Knox team is the worst team I have EVER watched period, hands-down!

Coach Combs will have this program back to the level of state power in due time so this game will be will worth it now and the future.
I read somewhere today that the Eagles have lost 35 of their last 36 games. Have not verified those numbers, but they are probably in the ballpark. Being a state power is probably not on the radar no matter what the coach's name is.
There is probably plenty of talent walking the halls of Ft. Knox HS that is not interested in playing for a losing program. To get that untapped talent on the team they need to schedule some games that can be won and build off the success. A winless program which schedules Danville and Ft. Campbell in back to back games is going to struggle to get maximum participation from all the available talent. I do hope the Coach can get the program back on track as you suggest he will.

Tilghman has got to have a break out game at some point; there is talent on that team. Maybe the coach can figure out how to bring the talent to the surface, maybe not. I have watched both of these teams this season against Ft. Campbell and believe Tilghman has the edge in talent and Mayfield has the edge in heart. I am going with heart and desire over disfunctional talent.
Mayfield 28
Tilghman 14

When a team unites behind an idea, it is amazing what they can do!
This story should inspire fans of high school football. This is what it is all about; playing for the love of the game, respect for the man next to you and some personal pride.
Thanks for sharing such an uplifting story.
This story is sort of like what we have going on in the Ft. Campbell community. Many parents were deployed during the title run last season and more are deployed this season. Coach Berner has the team playing as a family, for eachother, and for parents around the world. The pride and dedication is inspiring. When Senior Linebacker Josh Carter's father was killed in Afghanistan earlier this summer, it only strengthened the unbreakable bond felt by the entire team. High School football is inspiring and also a formative part of life as boys make the transition to men.

After reading all these posts, I have to get a look at Highlands while they are in the neighborhood. May have to cut out early to make the Murray State vs. Austin Peay game that evening to watch some Ft. Campbell products battle eachother.

I've never seen Fort Campbell play. And I've watched Fort Knox several times over the past two seasons and know there's really no comparison when it comes to the two teams.
But if you ask the kids, this is one game they really look forward to each year. Fort Knox knows its not on the same end of the spectrum competition-wise, but they have fun with this game.
Just talking to some of the Fort Knox players since the season started, they are ready for this game.
All I can say is come to the game and check out the Falcons in person.
-
Who Wins - are you kidding??? If you have never seen the Falcons - this is your chance to come check them out!
Why - just like the Danville and Ft. Knox match-up - the Falcons are on the opposite end of the caliber scale than the Eagles.
This game is a traditional matchup that has no actual benefit for either team. This is an annual three-hour bus trip for the traveling team that has outlived its relevance. Both teams would be better suited by scheduling a team which is on the same competetive level. I wish the Falcons would schedule Lone Oak each year instead of Ft. Knox. Playing the high-powered 4A Purple Flash would better prepare the Falcons for a 2A title run then taking a three hour trip to hang a 50 on the Ft. Knox scoreboard, just to get on the bus and travel three hours back home.

Most starters were out after the first couple minutes of the 2nd half. The only way Coach Berner could have shown more mercy would have been to let his JV team play the entire game. The kids and coaches from Todd County were all class it was just a mismatch.

I posted Crittenden County 28 - Mayfield 14 early in the week.
Great job Rockets and good luck the rest of the season!!

I was very surprised by the Fort Campbell vs. Paducah Tilghman score. Really thought this might be a test for the Falcons on the road, surely not a shut-out. Most of the Falcon starters were out by the end of the 3rd quarter or the score would have really been lopsided.

Billwilliams70: You will be in for quite a "Halloween Treat". The Wildcats are probably wishing they were going trick or treating on October 31, instead of visiting Fryar Stadium. You have the safest of travels and enjoy your well deserved time at home!!!

Coach Berner really got on the team hard for giving up three TDs last week to Union. The defense was ready, but I don't think anybody expected a shutout performance at Tilghman. I was at the game and it was one of the best all around performances by a Falcon team against a quality opponent.
-
Big improvement for the Falcons from last week. Penalties were under control and the defense was on a mission. There was a lot of hard hitting and a lot less arm tackles this game. I agree, should be a big confidence booster after holding the 5th ranked 4A team to just 6.

If the reserves, JV and Freshman were playing for GC the second half, what do you expect them to do. When the backups are in, you can't tell them to take it easy or not try! You can't send an offensive unit out to take a knee on three straight plays and then punt so the other team can catch up. It sounds like if the GC coach didn't have some class they would have hit the century mark with ease. No WHINNING in football - there is always the band!
