Running clock in a state final.....sad
Maybe we'll go to 8 classes next year.
-
Boone County was in the finals in 1994 with Mr. Kentucky, Shaun Alexander.....shocker they lost. You can't ride one horse to a title in the big boy class.
Trinity sure did with Brian Brohm, as we all know "You can't beat an All-American."
-
Do what Ryle and X did in the first half: run the ball and keep Trinity's offense off the field. Male ought to be able to do that given that they've rushed for over 3,500 yards this year. They also have two 1,000 yard backs.
Defensively, they've got to stop the run out of their nickel package. That may prove to be a challenge.

I think Jefferson County and Boone County are very different school systems. Boone County is totally closed. If a student lives in Ryle's district, they have to go to Ryle with very rare exceptions. Same is true for Boone, Conner and Cooper. Whatever high school district you live in, that is where you go to high school. In Jefferson County, I believe the school system is much more open and where you live doesn't preclude you from going to a Jefferson County school on the other side of town.
What Ryle did was start a middle school football team from students in their district. There is a non school pee wee football league in Boone County that has its own rules and no connection to the schools. Ryle's team did not compete in that league. They competed in the middle school football league.
Does Jefferson County have middle school football? It is a new thing in N. Ky., starting perhaps 4 years ago. Where do 6, 7 and 8 grade students play football in Jefferson County ... is it on school teams or a non-school league of some sort?
Believe me, having posted on this board for for many years, I am cognizant that there is a difference re open enrollment. Until today, I was unaware that it was permissible in Boone County for a high school coach to coach a non-enrolled student athlete.
The Catholic grade schools have had a league for 60 years (CSAA). The public middle schools have just instituted school based football teams. Until then, and still today, the optimist league is where the public school children played.

There is no such rule in Boone County. You have to go to the high school in the area you live in anyway, unless you pay tuition to go out of county.
Thanks for the explanation. You learn something new everyday.
-
Thanks for the clarification. Sounds like it may just be Boone County.
-
If the coach is a coach at a local high school, he can't coach or select a team of players for a local grade/middle school.
-
They can't have open football camps in the summer? I thought that was pretty common.
They definitely can do that. They are prohibited from selcting/coaching a team of potential students who are not students at their schools. Sounds like that is not the case in NKY.
-
If the school they wish to attend accepts tuition students and they pay said tuition. None of the Boone county schools accept tuition students so it is very different for a kid living in Union or anywhere in Boone county for that matter.
Thanks for the explanation.
So the position in Boone County is that while these kids are not in high school yet, since they have to come to our high school, we are permitted to coach/interact with them?
-
To the greatest extent.
Correct me if i am wrong, but can't a student in Ft. Thomas, KY can go to other public schools besides HHS?
If yes, is that different for a student in Union, KY?
-
How is this any different than what Highlands has been doing for years. They have their own teams with interaction from the high school coaches. They have been the model for success for years.
I don't know. I'm very unfamiliar with the process in NKY. You guys have provided great information on these issues. I've gotten quite a few private messages from Louisville school supporters.
So Highlands' varsity coaches interact with football players who aren't in Highlands High School?
In Jefferson County, if a high school coach were to do what has been represented on this thread, he would be in trouble.
-
Cool. Boyle is the top-ranked non-scholarship, intra-state, intra-county school in Kentucky. Awesome!!!!!! However, doesn't mean a thing if they lose Friday.
I though everyone at Boyle County was on a full scholarship.
-
Does it seem funny? :idunno:
I didn't know high school coaches were permitted to select middle school players for a football team? Perhaps that is different in Boone County. I know in Jefferson County that is prohibited. That's why I thought you were being sarcastic.
-
So Coach Warner went out and selected a team(s) based on where they lived that would eventually be going to Ryle so they could play together. I believe this team played in the nky middle school league and not the Boone County youth football league. If I'm mistaken someone please correct me.
Is this a joke?
-
They are not gonna share info with us H. I know some folks and maybe I can find out.
I bet Mr. Quick makes an appearance Saturday night.
-
How much interaction is permitted in Boone County with high school coaches and the youth football leagues? Are the Union Raider players going to Ryle or are they permitted to go to other schools?
-
I've said for several years that the way to ensure parity in the state's biggest class (4A before 2007 and 6A since then) would be to force both Trinity and St. Xavier to split into two schools. Then we would have all the parity we would ever want.
It's strictly a hypothetical proposal because it will never happen ... Trinity and St. Xavier don't want to give up the numbers advantage they enjoy on their competitors.
Wow. That is absurd.
-
Playing the we're small, we play up in class card constantly gets old. If you were really the best, you wouldn't have to proclaim it to the world ad naseum.
I don't think the Highlands' fans are saying they are better than Trinity. In fact, most of them believe Trinity is better than HHS just about every year. I believe their only contention is that their state titles are more "impressive" because they have an enrollment disadvantage on just about every school in their class. Akin to a 152 pound wrestler winning the 171 pound title; it doesn't mean he can beat the heavyweight title holder, only that he beat people bigger than him.
In fairness to Trinity, Trinity won many, many state titles before its enrollment grew to current levels.
-
It couldn't be because Henderson is actually good.
I don't know? Henderson wasn't ranked in the BGP 6A rankings. Henderson may have been very good. If you saw the game, why did Male struggle with Henderson at home? What type of defense does Male run?
-
No true at all, there are 90 kids on Male's team that have worked their tails off that say otherwise. I hear that cliche all the time, I heard it last week that the T and X game was the State Championship. Male had nothing to do with the way the brackets turned out all they did is kept winning and have made it to the Championship. Trinity is a awesome team no doubt about it, but the Dawgs are going to show-up do their best and see what happens.
What kind of defense does Male run?
Why did Male struggle so much with Henderson County?
What happened in the Maunual game?
-
Lost a faster one from last year to this year. Get your facts straight.
I love it when the uninformed pontificate re Trinity! One lady at the game asked me how many players had full rides? She was apologetic afterwards when I explained the third party anonymous need based aid system.
-
I'm going to go with Ryle in a close one. I think this was Ryle's best team ever, and St. X had one of their worst team's in recent memory. X barely beat PRP, Male and Ballard and trailed at half to Seneca. Ryle's defense played Trinity tougher than X did either time. Finally, Ryle has a much better passing game than X.
-
I hope the kid makes it, but on what we saw last night, I would say not likely.
-
If the officials had seen the penalties that were taking place, Trinity would have had 30 to 40 yards more. I know you're used to officials being bullied by the mystique of Trinity HS but I believe you are reacting to the call, not the play. Did you actually see some of the holding penalties they were calling? I bet you think it was not OFF Pass Int also. Trinity is the better team but dont act like Ryle was given gifts by the officials. How about this, maybe if Ryle's players were taught to hold on the perimeter and illegally cut defenders, there may have been a few more holes opened offensively.
You bring up some fair points. Trinity should feel fortunate they only had 80 more penalty yards, 1 touchdown, a 30 yard gain to the Ryle 2, a 40 yard gain and an interception called back. Trinity is taught to hold and cut illegally. As Ryle's sign said before the game, I guess our "luck" continues.
