  1. WVA Boy, I'll take this Russell State Championship team over NCC any day. Russell was more physical and had a better running game and would in my opinion spread the NCC defense. I also think the Russell defense is better than you think. Remember also those kids know how to win 27-2 the past two years. I believe you are disrespecting the quality of 2A football alittle bit. Contrary to what you think Russell, Belfry, Ft. Campbell, DeSales and OCath, not to mention Newport, Mercer Co. are pretty darn good. Your comparision of Newport and NCC are a little invalid because at the end of the year that score would have been alot different. Newport was clicking at the right time and coming together under a new Coach. I don't think 1A fairs as well as you may think!!!!

Did you watch Ncc play in the state championship game this year? After seeing both teams i would say Ncc wins by two td's.

  2. This week, we have co-players of the week for the first time this season.

Sam Diehl, the 6-1 185 pound Senior QB Newport Central Catholic was 13-24 for 256 passing yards and four touchdown passes. He also ran nine times for 61 yards and a score.

Kasey Clark of Russell 36 carries for 195 yards 3 Rushing tds and 1 recieving td for 11 yards in the Big win over Owensboro Catholic. This also gave the 6'0 190 pound junior RB/SS 44 tds on the season and the school record for tds in a season. He acumulated 1,576 Rushing yards on the season.

    :ylsuper:

  3. Why would Dale want to say or do anything different? It seems to be working!!!!! It looks like Bob maybe took a few pointers from Dale on his scheduling of tougher opponents. Just thought he would like to have another tough game to get them ready for the playoffs!

Thats not my point, someone said Dale sends an invitation to ncc every year, which im sure is just Dale talking it up. Telling kids and parents what they want to hear.

  4. Canafax is a great player...I have seen him on film and he is a great athlete as is the rest of the Thoroughbreds....but from what I have seen this will be the best defense that NCC has seen all year...and vice versa...this will be the best offense that Mayfield has seen...should be a nice one...and as far as anybody being able to hang with Canafax....we will see...I like our chances...especially with a particular defender with the initials J.H....and I will go out on a limb and state this WILL BE the hardest that he has been hit all year...and just seen the latest weather forecasts...the rain chances for Saturday are increasing...has NCC played any games in the rain...interesting to see how Diehl throws a wet ball...just wondering...good luck to both teams and may the best team win.

Is Mayfields defense better than Cov Caths? As of right now that was the best defense Ncc has seen this year.

Ncc beat Bellevue in the worst rain storm i have sat through.

  5.

On defense the Cards have proven to be one of the best run stoppers in class A. What I wonder is how well we can defend agaist NCC's passing attack. It seems one senior reciever has done most of the damage all year (the recievers name escapes me). The NCC qb is completing around 63% of his throws for the season which is pretty impressive. NCC also has a outstanding back in the Vicars kid who has been the main ground threat. If I were ask where we are the weakest I would say against the pass but we have been very successful against teams that tend to have 1 go to guy. CC is a great example of this. NCC reminds me alot of Hoptown who could do both run and pass well.

After all this is said the game story is likely to go as the turnovers go

    .

Canafax is the reciever's name, he is a stud.

That is a pretty good report, i havent seen Mayfield play but from what i have seen on paper and the results of their schedule they matchup well. I think this will be a close game and whoever has the ball last wins.

    Go Breds!

  6. No but an even score against a common opponent should show that Somerset is more than capable of playing with Newcath. Maybe y'all played your worst game (although you usually save that for Beechwood) and maybe we played our best but it should show that Somerset can play with the Breds. I hope the team and the whole town is expecting this to be easy.

Yeah a common opponent but that was the first game of the year for ncc, and you keep acting like Ncc players think this is a cake walk, im sure they arent overlooking anyone. Good luck to "y'all"

  7. There has been one common opponent between these 2 teams. Newcath beat Pikeville 37-6, Somerset beat Pikeville 35-7. Pretty similar scores. Newcath is at home and should win this game. However, Somerset is not your typical mountain team. They've got speed and athletes across the field (I think Newcath's basketball team can attest to that as most of these same players beat Newcath in the All A last spring). I really hope that all of the confidence of the Newcath fan's on this site is being passed on to the team. Yes, maybe y'all should beat this team but you know what we're all about wasting sportswriters time and we're going to show up anyway. You might win and you might not but I promise you that you better buckle 'em down tight because we're no one's doormat.

Yeah a basketball game from last year has nothing to do with this game.

  8. Funny how confident NCC has become now that their one big obstacle (Beechwood, Yeagle) have been taken out of the equation. Not by NCC of course. Before you start your state championship celebration you might want to win 2 more games. Heres hoping that you do win state but I doubt Somerset or either Mayfield or Bardstown is going to roll over and play dead.

I think the person that started this thread is a newport fan.

  9. defense like this but you know what I don't think Bellevue or Beechwood has an offense like Somerset. Newcatch should win but if you think you can win by just showing up you're sadly mistaken.

Yea im sure the players from Ncc think like that

And by the way Lca had a great offense and ran into a wall.

  10. It's been a while since that field has been played on or taken in a substantial amt. of water. Surely it's not in that bad of shape now? Does anyone have a picture of the field in it's present condition, or a picture of the field at all?

Newport has played on it the last three playoff games because technically it is their field, ncc just shares it with them.

  11. Canafax, one of the best wrs in the state, goes off in front of a huge audience

If you call that a huge audience then you havent seen much nky football.

It was clear that Lca doubled him and focused on him, but they forgot about the other Ncc wr's. Lca was fast on defense but couldnt get anything going on offense in the first half or stop the Ncc offensive machine.
